INTRODUCTION
Every business require to concentrate to frame and strategic planning and strategy which
can help to maintain operations in each and every department. In order to gain more success,
organization need to focus on their employees activities so that they can effectively improve their
performance and provide their best contribution in the success of the Organization. Human
resources department is mainly concerned about the manpower and maintain each and every
operations effectively. HR manager is responsible to follow all the functions of human resource
management so that manager can effectively improve the productivity of the manpower.
Manager also liable to conduct workforce planning which can help in the Strategic hiring of the
employees. This report will discuss about the human resource management activities of ASDA
organization which is most famous British multinational supermarket chain that established in
the year 1949 and the headquarter is situated in Leeds , England. This Organization mainly
provide the grocery, general merchandise & financial services to their customers The main
purpose of this report is to discuss about the functions & purpose of the HRM and also identify
the strength & weakness of the recruitment & selection process. This report also determines the
various benefits of the HRM practices for the employees and employers. Furthermore, this report
recognizes the significance of the employee’s relationship in the decision making of the HRM
and explains the laws and legislation for the employees.

P1 Purpose & functions of HRM, applicable to workforce planning & resourcing an
organization.
There are various functions which are performed by the human resource department of every
organization. HR manager is responsible to perform the functions of HRM and also make sure
the smooth running in an organization. ASDA manager pay more attention on all the functions of
the HRM so that manager can effectively take care each and every operations of the employees.
The description of HRM function which are performed by the ASDA HR manager are discussed
below -
Strategic Hiring Process - This is considered as the most prominent function of the HRM
which can help in the appointment of those candidates who are interested and suitable for
the job. HR manager of ASDA, prepare an effective strategy to hire the more potential
candidates for the specific job role (Delgadová, Gullerová and Ivanová, 2017).With the
help of strategic hiring process, manager can consider the proper workforce planning so
that manager directly targets the more capable candidate for the vacant job role which can
help to recruit and select talented candidates. Job analysis and job evaluate - HR manager is responsible for job design, job analysis
and then it's evaluate. This function is very appropriate because it can help to identify that
which job role is vacant in the organization .Manage of the ASDA is analysed all the job
requirements and design a specific job role. Manager also evaluates the job role as per the
need of the Organization.
Arrange Training & Development sessions - This function is also considered by the
HRM which determines the improvement of the newly appointed employees. ASDA
manager organize the effective training and development session for their employees
after the induction programe. With the help of training and development sessions,
manager can spread awareness about specific job role of the employees so that all the
newly hired employees can learn their work effectively as per the current market demand.

Constant Performance Appraisal - Through this function, manager can effectively
evaluate the performance of the employees as per their previous performance which can
help to improve the efficiency of the employees. ASDA manager apply various methods
to appraise and evaluate the performance of the employees like ranking, rating, MBO and
370 degree method.
Provide proper compensation & other benefits - With the help of this function, manager

and also communicate to the other staff members so that they can recruit the best talent in the
organization. There are various type of recruitment approach are considered by the ASDA which

level training to their employees so that they can easily learn current trends and knowledge and
perform their job in an effective way. ASDA manager mainly concerned about training and
development process so that their employees can effectively improve their productivity and
