INTRODUCTION
Sustainable Tourism is defined as a commitment towards making low impact upon local,
culture and environment by considering towards future employment for local individual
(Saarinen, 2019). Sustainable Tourism is a positive aspect through which entities involved in
travel and tourism industry can positively conduct their business operations while ensuring
maximum profitability. In this report formative discussion has been made on adverse impact of
travel and tourism that emerge the need of sustainable tourism development. Along with this
report include role of stakeholders in strategic development process and global sustainable
tourism agenda. Report also includes comparison and contrast of the outcome of Sustainable
Tourism strategies in established and emerging tourism destination.

Travel and tourism industry is leading industrial segment that receive billion’s of
customers in a year. From passing many years this industry see significant growth that adversely
have negative impact upon many aspects like, environment and scare resources that drive need
for Sustainable Tourism Development in order to attract attention of customers while ensuring
limit use of critical resources as to protect natural areas and environmental values:
Scare Resources: With the significant increase in business aspect of travel and tourism
from past many decades it has been analyzed that it adversely impacts many scare resources like
raw material, energy, food, equipments etc. Travel and tourism create pressure on these
resources. As in order to attract consumers in all season, tourism industry overuses scare
resources that have already leading towards short supply.
Environmental Consideration: Travel and tourism adversely impact upon environment as
factors like fossil fuel, wildlife, minerals, fertile soil, forest are diminishing at faster rate. Due to
increase in construction of tourism facilities in order to provide attractive and enchanting

services to customers this industry directly impact upon both renewable and non-renewable
resources. For example due to increase entities in this sector there is maximum use of land for
infrastructure and accommodation facilities that affect forest and wild life. It has been seen that
in order to attract tracking tourist many geographical locations are suffering from effect of
deforestation.
P2 Discuss the conceptual development of sustainable tourism and how it has evolved
Sustainable development is defined as an attempt to make low impact upon local, culture
and environment with having aim to generate employment income and conservation of local
ecosystem and environment. This concept is evolving at a significant rate in different aspects that
are defined below:
Social: In this with the implementation of sustainable tourism aid both economic and
ecological dimensions. In this those entities who offer their services in travel and tourism sector
are required to influence environment and local culture at minimal rate by creating different job
opportunities that protect local ecosystem in a effective manner.
Economic: In context with this aspect by adopting social sustainability in tourism,
organization involved in this segment undertake current and future social needs of visitors. It
leads towards creation of relationship between community and resident life quality. By
developing social sustainability in tourism industries, entities can create relationship between
tourist and local society individuals that fulfill need and requirement of both of the parties. Thus,

global tourism agenda and strategic development process stakeholder’s role is most important
aspect and essential for sustainable tourism development. Stakeholders in travel and tourism
sector include National governments, tourist, employees and professionals, tourism enterprises
and establishment local government, trade unions of employees, tourism educational centre and
more. In addition to this local company, local residents, competitors, business associate, tourism
developers and media employees also involved in stakeholders those who contribute their
contribution in strategic development process and global sustainable tourism agenda. For
example with the help of local residents and government stake holding entities can effectively
able to gain financial and legal support from government and financial institutions and while
taking advantage of the role of local residents industries involved in this sector can develop trust
that increases policy and decision making process of entity in a well effective manner. In

organizations involved in this sector can effectively develop international and local tourism.
Local people:
Local residence or individual are most important stakeholders that significantly contribute
in the strategic development and global sustainable tourism. By developing effective relationship
with them industries can ensure that they do not resist towards any tourism development. Thus, it
is essential for organization involved in travel and tourism sector to involve local people in the
decision making process as it has been analyzed that with their contribution they can add distinct
values and culture to any tourist destination that will help of which entities can attract tourist in a

Comparison
Sustainable Tourism practices involve water conservation, energy management, human
wildlife conflict, resolution based management and other practices in which industries involve in
travel and tourism sector stay committed to make low impact upon culture and environment.
Sustainable Tourism Development effectively benefit both emerging and develop tourism
destination as it help local communities by offering them economic advantages in a best effective
manner. It has been identified that nowadays sustainable tourism practices is being undertaken
by developed and emerging tourism destination in which government and industry involved in
this sector undertake sustainable measures with an aim to serve local individuals and
environment in a best effective manner. For example Dana biosphere reserve in Jordan is a
sustainable hotel in which 100% renewable energy is used by hotel in order to offer with unique
tourism experience and having minimal impact on environment.
Contrast
This has been identified that emerging tourist destination require more attractive
investments in order to encourage tourist from all around the world, while established tourist
destinations already offer different type of unique services. It has been evaluated that develop
tourism destination have gained support from governments that ensure community well being
and monetary benefit. While on the other hand emerging tourism destination faces number of
challenges and issues to gain support from national and local government. Established tourism
destination have satisfaction and trust from locals that offer them effective support while on the
other hand emerging tourism destination somehow lacks behind having trust and satisfaction of
from local individuals.
CONCLUSION
As per the above mentioned report it has been concluded that, sustainable tourism practices
can not only ensure high level of tourism satisfaction but can raise awareness towards

environmental and natural reserves and local individuals in a well effective manner. In this with
the help of having contribution of key stakeholder’s effective policies can be made. It has been
analyzed that there is an emergence of sustainable tourism practices that not only help
organizations involved in this sectors reserve environment but can also benefit them to ensure
their global presence in this industry in a profitable manner.
