INTRODUCTION
Organization success through high performance of employees plays important role in
progress of world economy. The present report highlights importance of developing skills and
knowledge that contribute in development of UK economy. High performance refers to increase
in productivity of employees. In addition to this, it is very essential for every type of business to
use approaches to improve perform of its employees for enhancement of its competitiveness. The
chosen company in present report is Unilever. In addition to this, Unilever is British
multinational company of consumer goods. It offers variety of products such as pharmaceutical,
consumer health care and eatables items, etc. The current report describes skills and attributes
require by Hr professionals, Personal SWOT analysis as an assistant manager HR development.
With addition to this, it also elaborates personal development plan for skills improvement. The
current report represents analysis of CPD and its importance in Unilever. The particular report
explains HPW and its contribution in employees’ engagement and commitment. The current
report shows approaches for performance management and ways to improve high working
performance of Unilever’s employees.

P1. Analysis of skills and attributes required by HR professionals in Unilever
There are several skills that established companies expect to have in assistant manager
HR development of the organization. In addition to this Unilever is large scale organization
which anticipate HR professional to consist various skills that enhance its productivity and
profitability (Michael, 2019). With respect to this, HR of the company to be very organized
regarding its procedure of handling employees of firm. Further being organized for each
departments activity is considered to be essential for smooth functioning of business.
In aspect to this, being multitasking and able to deal with any issue of organization is
important attribute of professionals. Further, there are several departments which have different

roles so being capable to guide and direct each employees is basic skill require by organization
from HR professionals. Furthermore, successfully dealing with negotiation to tackle and resolves
issues of firm. With respect to this, Unilever recruits those HR professionals who have ability to
understand problems of employees and solving them in ethical manner shows high-quality
attribute of personnel management (Tooranloo, Azadi and Sayyahpoor, 2017). Additionally,
analyzing qualities and lacking areas of workers is foremost skill predictable from personnel
executive so that change management strategy can be effectively implemented. Additionally, it is
require conduct related training and development programs so that staff feels motivated and
enthusiastic regarding their job and better productivity could be achieved.
P2. Personal SWOT analysis
SWOT analysis help the organization, individual and group to access strength, weakness,
opportunity and threats. In addition to this, it assist person to evaluate weakness and threats so
that corrective major actions can be taken to tackle it (Puyt and et.al., 2020). Further, it aid to
identify strengths and opportunity in turn better advantages can be achieved for effective
performance.
Strengths
 It is analyzed that hiring strategy fits the Unilever as more focused given on suitable
skills for quality performance of organization.
 Further, leadership skill proved to be very effective for the management of different roles
of employees
 Additionally, it is evaluated that experience and knowledge helped as strength for
conducting training and development.
 In addition to this, communication skills aid me to conduct enhanced recruitment process
so that quality performance employees are hired.
Weakness
 From the analysis it is identified that I was not able to perform business recruitment
process according to estimated budget of Unilever
 Furthermore, low employee morale and high turnover rate due to lack understanding and
more consumption of time for identification of issues of personal problems of workers

 It is also examined that lack of understanding between employees and me due to mine
rigid behavior
Opportunities
 From the SWOT analysis it is found that any new technology can be easily used by me to
enhance productivity of employees Additionally, possibility of higher remuneration for adaptive changing circumstances of
organization and better management of business. Furthermore, increase in personal knowledge for effective career opportunities.
Threats
 Changing in business policies can lead to reduction in numbers of employees that can
result in layoff of HR position. In addition to this, increasing competition in the industry can result in wind up of
business that can also be server as a threat to HR position of the company.

Reflective statement
From the SWOT analysis it analyzed that I possessed required skills for the position of
assistant manager of HR development. Further, I came to know that there are various skills that
need to be adapting with changing circumstances of world. In addition to this, I evaluated that
being organized helped me a lot to conduct a quality recruitment process. However, rigid
behavior was found inappropriate in Unilever for management of different roles of job. With
respect to this, SWOT analysis help me to evaluate my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and
threats gave me chance to develop program for personal growth.

In aspect to this, evaluation of skills and attributes gave me outcome in turn of
improvement of my lacking skills and enhance productivity by using opportunity available in
industry. Additionally, I found that problem identification and resolving them by applying better
alternative is very essential for proper management of organization. Furthermore, personal
development program aid me to assess sources for improving my skill. With respect to this, it
can be enhanced by understanding and solving complex case studies. Additionally, I understood
that conducting interactions with employees help HR to comprehend working scenarios properly.
With respect to this, I can evaluated various threats also such as widening up of organization and
changing government laws etc. additionally, it gave me glance of enhancing my attributes and
skills to cope up with changing HR available opportunities.
In my opinion, time management is play vital role in every type of job role. Further, in
Unilever I was unable to perform my tasks according to estimated time. With help of personal
SWOT analysis I evaluated that performing accordance to standard estimated time and budget
provide assistance in performing superior. Additionally, personal development plan endow me
with prioritizing the activities of organization for achieving greater quality performance.
TASK 2
Unilever is the company which deals in consumer goods that includes energy drinks, ice cream,
toothpaste, pet food, beauty products, personal care and health care products. They have their
headquarters in London and its products are available in 190 countries or more. The company
has around 400 brands among which it is the largest producer of soap in the world. The firm has
their research and development facilities in following countries that are India, UK, US, china and
the Netherlands. It was founded in 2 September 1929 (Morris, 2020) . Their products are divided
into three divisions that are foods & refreshments, home care, beauty and personal care. Firm is
the dual listed company having their holding company that is Unilever NV in Rotterdam and
Unilever PLC have its head office in London, UK. From the year 2020 the company have started
advertising its product on social media that are Facebook, Instagram and twitter. It is also an
ethical company that treats their employee well from the other companies which have similar
size.

P3 Analyzing CPD and difference between organizational and individual learning, training and
development
Continuing professional development
Continuing professional development are related to the document the skills, knowledge
and experience weather it can be formally or informally that is as per the work (CPD Explained |
What Is Continuing Professional development 2021) . This are also known as the record of the
experience which is what have been learned and how it has been applied (Barão and et.al,
2017)
Continuing professional development for individuals:
This helps the person to focus on the things so that they can become more competent and
hard-hitting individuals. It make possible for the people to deal positively with the changes that
are related to the work or for the industry. With the assistance of training and learning they can
increase their confidence and capability which will be useful for their future growth. This
development make individual efficient about the time and recording oll the important thing that
are used for the professional development. This clearly shows the commitment which are related
to expertise and self-development. Although it also provides the opportunity for the individuals
to know the gaps in their knowledge and how to solve them using approach of improvement.
The people who handles the CPD in the company should make the certificate of attendance for
them and also providing the development growth at the time of training program and their
standard learning skills are met by the company’s expectations or not (GÜNEŞ, 2017) . CPD is
also the benefit for the individual that is they can change themselves with the changing trends,
become more effective in the workplace and helps them in better understanding the work that
were assign to them. By giving time for the self-development the individual can build knowledge
from the opportunities that will make them expert about how to speak with their leaders in
professional way. Another requirement is they will help in increasing the ability of individual
and confidence which can be within the organization or to the public which are large in number.
Continuing professional development for organization:
This means that both the organizations and individuals must remain up to date about the
changing trends, legislations, career qualification and standards set by the company. CPD also

trainee the organization to meet the criteria that are set by the regulatory or government
bodies. For the business it is important because helps them in knowing how they have to
compete with their competitors in professional way which is the ongoing and continues
process for the organizations (Larson and et.al, 2017) . With this they keep the knowledge and
skills about how they can deliver high quality of services that meet the expectations and
requirements of the customer to be filled in professional way. It is also used by the
organization to learn the benefits of increasing their brand conceptualisation and knowledge.
The internal sources of the firm adopt this development to encourage and promote the health
life & learning for organizations which will give values to their staff and more fulfilled
workforce. If the internal source are low then by using the CPD it uses the external source to
meet the staff requirements. The external source of CPD are very typical companies that are
events and conference organisers they provide the learning opportunities from the CPD in
which they are expert in their field by organizing seminar, conference, events and courses.
Some of the courses of CPD are done for 1-2 hours in the way of seminar and classroom style.
Through this development the business comes to know about the various scheme that are
related to the growth of the company and are mainly focused in professional practise,
competence and professional education (Stoyanova and Iliev, 2017) .
Differences between organisational and individual learning, training and development.

P4. Learning cycle
The cycle of Kolb's theories are related to create values and nature of process under the
organizations. This highlights the importance and actions that are important in learning process
(Larson and et.al, 2017) . This cycle is based on the things and experience which are faced by
the organization. The four stages in learning cycle are given below (Kolb’s Learning Cycle.
2021) .:

Concrete experience: This is the first process in the learning cycle which is related to the
introduction of the problems and situations which comes under the new learning experience. In
that people want to look the thing in different methods either they can watch that rather doing,
gather information and they can also think to solve the problems. (McLean, 2017). The example
of this method is brainstorming.
Reflective observation: In this stage the person thing about why this problem is arrived and how
to solve that problem. This is the particular fact between the experience and understanding. It
involves Logical approach, ideas and concepts that are important then the people. Also shows the
clear opportunity instead of practical. In this people are more attracted to sound theories which
are supported on the functional values.
Abstract conceptualization: From this the individual understand the concept which is being
discussed. They can also solve their problems and can make the decisions by giving solution of
it.
Active experimentation: this are related to the predictions on the assumptions in this the
employee uses different theories for experimenting the concepts (Makopoulou and et.al, 2019) .
There are also different styles that are used in the kolb learning cycle that are assimilates, con
vergers, accommodates and diverges.
P5. Analyzing H P W and its contribution in employee engagement
High performance work is the practices which are related to the job training, sharing
information, team working and profit sharing. This are used to improve the employee
engagement. The various factors that HPW contributes to employee engagement are:
Career development opportunities: In this factor the employees are continuously
investing their time and money in development at their work so that employees start thinking that
the company is also interested in making their career (Manley and et.al, 2018) .
Flexible: This point is related to the flexibility in hours at work. The employees are adapt
either to work in regular office or outside the organization. Also includes starting time and

finishing time and is useful for the working parents who have to drop and pick their kids from
the school.
Fair pay structure: This is the main factor and the issue that nobody can avoid. If the
employees are working in the organization the company will provide them salary and if their
work is good by that if business is having profit then they will also award them with bonus or
promotion.
Adopt the learning culture: In this the employee of the company are encourage them to
keep learning and gain knowledge every time. If the leader of the company sees that their
employee is not interested in making profits and sales then they should understand and pursue
them to work towards the companies goals.
Cultural diversity: In this world there are different type of people some are multicultural
and some have different mind sets which is the important part of the company. This is seen when
company hires new employees from other backgrounds that is different religion and culture.
Transparency and honesty: Although this is very important because sometimes
employees also share their personal matter with the others they must be having honesty sh that
they do not share with the other person. Employees working in the firm should have systematic
structure and coordination with their colleague (Mom, and et.al, 2019) .
Autonomy: Nobody wants to work under their leaders they want to work according
towards their values and interests. It can also be related to the moral and political liberty.
Inspiration: The employees in the company should be inspired by their leaders by giving
them feedback on the work which they have done and helping them in planning the
organizational works assigning them values of the company. The people also work in the best
way to achieve the business goals in effective way. If the working employees are motivated or
inspired on the daily basis then they can solve the problems faster to achieve the goals.
Communication: Another important factor is communicating which the individual of the
company must do at the time of any project or regular team method to improve the problems
within the departments (Moorhouse, and et.al, 2019) .

Employee recognition: Employees are very important part of the company they can not
only give the positive energy to the company but also increase the profits and sales. If the
employees will see that their leaders are noticing the work of them by this people are encourages
and started working in more better way then previous.
Bonus factor: The employees of the firms will be happy if they had been awarded with
the bonus for their good work which is been resulted in growth for the sales and profit for the
company. Leaders of the firm should correlate with their employees on good manner if they will
talk with them in very harsh way then that will become a reason for them to leave the job (Page
and et.al, 2017) .
Benefits of applying HPW
HPW is used for the new research that is based on the framework. This can be financial
and non-financial benefits that are:
Better employee attitude: It is the responsibility for the employees to bring new and
innovative ideas for improving the organizational products, services and processes. If the
company will bring more new products and services their will be the increase in numbers of the
consumers and can result in positive mentality among the individual working in the company.

Inside and outside corporation in the organization: HPW helps them to work more
better weather it is internally with the colleagues or externally with the customers. They will not
compare themselves with the other members of the firm they will see as them as a part of the
value chain of the organization.
Organization: The Company must have a specific strategy as compared to the other
group. This will help them in attracting large number of customers and the individual are more
focused and discipline towards their corporate responsibility.
Financial results are better: If the productivity of the firm will increase that will result
in the success of the organization. The cost of the firms is in control this will result in the benefit
for the firm.

Competitive advantages: If the company have better financial results from the other
company that will result in good achievements and also the competition to its competitors
(Schofield and et.al, 2018) .

Performance management is a business technique that helps management to evaluate and
measure employees’ efficiency of work. Additionally, it is the technique which assists
management of Unilever to create healthy working atmosphere so that employees can fully
optimize their skills and abilities. There are various approaches through which Unilever can
achieve high performance working.
Decision making
The best approach to enhance productivity is through allowing employees to participate
in decision making process of organization. In addition to this, hearing perception and views of
employees regarding particular activities helps business to understand best way of working
methodology (DeNisi and Murphy, 2017). Additionally, increasing participation of employees
enhances their morale and encourages them to give quality performance. Further, it also enables
them to obey those decisions that are taken from their concern as well. With respect to this,
Unilever can use this strategy to improve performance of employees
Sharing goals and objectives of business with employees
Another strategy to improve working performance of employees is sharing desire
destination of business with workers. With respect to this, it enables employees to get clarity of
expected results from the. Additionally, employees can understand their roles and responsibilities
in effective manner when business shares its future plans with workers (Mone, London and
Mone, 2018). Furthermore, Unilever shares its objectives of activity and future goals with its
workers that help it to motivate them through which company can enhance performance of its
workers.

Positive support refers to helping them to complete their roles and responsibilities of job.
It is very essential part of any organization that assists it to get success along with employee’s
growth. Additionally, employees show their loyalty when their personal goals are fulfilled along
with organization’s objectives. Further, in Unilever manager give positive support to employees.
In addition to this, manager of the company evaluates employees performance on timely basis.
With respect to this, it give chance to improve their work if any discrepancies found. In aspect to
this, it enables workers to enhance and improve performance which increases workers
productivity.
Collaborative working
It refers to the way of working where two or more businesses come together to achieve
their common objectives. With respect to this, it aid business to get support from externals
sources that enables it to use other business resources. In addition to this, Unilever get various
benefits through this strategy as it can use resources of other companies that help it to focus on
its original business activities, etc. additionally, it faces many challenges like resistance to
change, complications between partners, lack of consistency and clarity, etc.
Lowering the gap between management and employees
It is very important for any business to build bridge between employees and management
so that effective communication can be achieved. With respect to this, it is common practice that
enhances understanding between employees and organization. With respective to this effective
communication aid management to explain its policies and goals clearly to workers so that better
productivity can be achieve. Furthermore, Unilever utilize this strategy to improve organization’s
culture so that workers can feel comfortable and optimize their skills effectively.
Appraising employees contribution in organization
Another approach to achieve high performance of employees is appraising their valuable
contribution in business. In addition to this, it is an important approach that can enhance
productivity of employees. Additionally, Unilever uses this approach to motivate employees to
perform better than before (Stoyanova and Iliev, 2017). With respect to this, Appraisal can be

done in two forms by rewarding with incentives and giving them award. With respect to this,
employees achieve mental satisfaction that encourages them to contribute more for their personal
goal along with organization growth.
Recommendation
 It is suggested to Unilever use all the above six approaches of HPW to enhance
productivity of employees (Jagacinski and Flach, 2018). In addition to this, higher
working performance helps business to achieve its desire outcome effective and
efficiently.
 It is advisable to Unilever to encourage and create healthy atmosphere so that all these six
approaches can be effectively implemented. With respect to this it will aid company to
enhance its working performance.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concluded that it is very essential for business to achieve
high working performance from employees. It is also summarized that skills like time
management, analytical problem solving, etc are basis attributes that HR professional must
possess. The current report also emphasized personal SWOT of an HR manager. On the basis of
SWOT the report also shows comprehend professional development plan which assist manager
to enhance its lacking skills like polite behavior, depth knowledge of company budget, etc. It
also analyzed from the report that it’s very important for company and individual to CPD to get
organizational and individual learning. The report also explains learning cycle which has four
stages such as concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization and active
experimentation. In addition to this, the report shows HPW helps company to make flexible
working environment, etc. The current report also emphasized different approaches of
performance management.
