INTRODUCTION
Management and Operations refers to the wide range of methods and techniques which
are used by the managers of a particular organization to be able to ensure that the overall level of
efficiency, effectiveness and productivity level can be enhanced in a proper manner which will
lead towards ensuring that the attainment of the future goals and objectives can be carried out in
a right way (Albergaria and Jabbour, 2020). Therefore, in this way the different types of
organizations can make sure that they are able to identify and assess their various operational
problems which are being faced by them so that they can find out a right solution for these
particular problems in a proper manner. For this report, Osymar Construction Limited has been
chosen. It is a company which deals in various types of construction activities and provides its
services to the customers quite properly. In this report, a detailed discussion will be made on the
way the use of various methods and techniques can be made to bring an improvement in the
overall operational efficiency and effectiveness.
TASK 1
Defining and Comparing the roles and characteristics of a leader and a manager-
There are different types of roles and characteristics of a leader and a manager. It is quite
important that a detailed assessment of these roles and characteristics can be made (Alfaro-
Tanco, Roothooft and Breeze, 2020). Its explanation can be made in the following manner-
Roles of a leader-
Coach- A leader should act like a coach and must be able to ensure that the people in the
organization are able to work in the right way effectively and efficiently and manage out
the particular needs and requirements quite properly (Chawla and et.al., 2021).
Facilitator- A leader should be like a facilitator and therefore should be able to ensure
that the cooperation and coordination is maintained within the organization so that the
various types of activities can be carried out in a right way effectively and efficiently.
Strategist- A leader should be able to make sure that a detailed strategy can be prepared
in a right way which will therefore lead towards the management of the needs and
requirements in a proper manner.
Visionary- A leader should set a right vision which will help in ensuring that the
organization can progress in the right direction for the purpose of attainment of the goals
and objectives in the future in a proper manner.
Change agent- A leader should act like a Change agent for the purpose of introducing
changes within the organization which is quite important.
Characteristics of a leader-

Trustworthy- A leader is a person who is trustworthy in nature and therefore is able to
make sure that people in the organization are able to put trust in the skills and abilities
which he is displaying which will help in managing the work of the organization (Chen
and et.al., 2020).
Exemplifies the culture- A leader is a person who is able to make sure that the
identification of the details related with the culture of the organization can be done by
him so that he is able to ensure that the organization can be led in the right way.
Recognition of accomplishments- It is also necessary that recognition of the
accomplishments can be carried out in a proper way which will be quite helpful for the
organization. This will be quite useful in ensuring that the leader is able to lead the
organization in a proper way.
Knowledgeable- A leader is also a knowledgeable person who has all the necessary
knowledge which is required for the purpose of managing out the particular needs and
requirements of the organization in a proper manner. This helps in leading the
organization in a better manner quite effectively and efficiently.
Role of a manager-
Planning- A manager is required to make sure that the various types of plans are created
within the organization so that they can be implemented whenever required (Choi, Guo
and Luo, 2020).
Organizing- A manager is a person who is required to make sure that the organizing of
the organizational processes can be done properly to attain the future goals and
objectives.
Staffing- A manager is a person who has to make sure that the recruitment of right
people within the organization can be done so that they are able to help in the attainment
of the goals and objectives.
Directing- A manager is a person who has to make sure that the right directions are
provided to the people so that they are able to help in the attainment of the goals and
objectives.
Controlling- A manager is a person who has to control the different types of activities
which are going on in the organization so that the deviations and variations are identified
and controlled in a proper manner.
Characteristics of a manager-
Leadership- A manager has to make sure that he is able to lead the organization in a
proper way and therefore can manage out the needs and requirements in a right manner
(Diwas, 2020).
Experience- A manager has to ensure that the use of the experience is made. This helps
in ensuring that the managers are able to use their experience in a proper way.
Communication- A manager has to communicate in a proper manner with the
subordinates so that they are allocated the work and are able to perform their tasks
effectively and efficiently.
