INTRODUCTION
Management refers as a set of principles which is relating to the activity of organizing,
directing, controlling and controlling . Management has main function to organize and
coordinate overall activities of companies in term of accomplish defined objectives. While
operation refers as the business functions which is performed by the manager to meet business
vision over the time. Operation and management both plays crucial role in company. For
example management sets goals while operation helps to meet objectives. Organization can get
competitive advantage over the competition market by the helps of both management and
operation. Manager and leader both plays different role within company for example manager
implements decision on company while leader commands group of employee to perform well.
To understand role of management and operation there is an example of Tesco company. It is a
British multinational and general merchandize company which is headquartered in Welwyn
garden, England, UK. It offers wide variety of product like home product, financial services,
food items, clothing product etc. to customer. This report covers roles and characteristic of leader
and manager along with various theories like situational leadership, system leadership and
contingency theories.

Manager plays various function such as organizing, planning, controlling, motivating,
task delegation and decision-making etc. within company. Manager monitors overall employees
performance and decision-making of company so that performance improve in well manner. On
the other hand, leader commands group of team to complete task successful which leads
profitability in company. Leader also motivate group of member to give highly performance
within workplace.

etc. must require in a manager.

characteristic which helps
them to control on overall
employees' performance.
Additionally, manager
introduces profitable strategy
in company which helps them
to take competitive advantage.
A good leader must have
these characteristics i.e.
communication, confidence,
positive attitude,
commitment, creativity,
honest and ability to
delegate task. Tesco's leader
possess overall characteristic
which makes them as role
model for employees.
Leader helps organization to
keep staff intellectual and
creative mind. Leaders also
motivate employees to give
high performance within
company. Transparency in
task delegation improves
employees trust on leader.
Thus they support company
