Unit 5 Assignment 2 Development Of Safe Systems Of Work 03/02/20 Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan Context of a Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan Description: Site InductionIs the process of ensuring workers on constructionsitesare fully informed about the organisation and operation of thesiteand of their responsibilities, It focuses in particular on safety aspects of thesite HazardIt’s a risk on site that can cause arm to someone Risk AssessmentsCombined effort of: identifying and analysing potential events that may negatively impact individuals, assets, and/or the environment; and making judgments "on the tolerability of the risk on the basis of a risk analysis" while considering influencing factors. Method StatementA statement of exactly how you will carry out work to overcome the hazards Toolbox talksis an informalsafety meetingthat is part of an organization's overall safety program PPEDate when issued, who issued, when and what, a detailed record should be kept, care and storage, frequency of use expiration dates if applicable First AidIs the first and immediate assistance given to any person suffering from either a minor or serious illness or injury, with care provided to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, or to promote recovery. Traffic ManagementEstablishes vehicle routing and tests that vehicles can access and egress the site safely during theconstructionphase. This is typically in the form of routing plans, restrictions to timing of vehicle movements, temporary enabling works, and parking suspensions. FireRisks of fires on the construction site Communicationsis to convey an instruction to influence the actions/behaviours of others, or may involve an exchange of, or request for information during a construction project WasteConsists of unwanted material produced directly or incidentally by the construction or industries. Hazard Identification Beforehand hazards will be briefly be looked at by having a walk around the area of the site assessing the condition of the building such as rusting, growth of wildlife and or broken windows on the outside etc. This will be carried out by the Site Manager and H+S Inspector so they can gather all the information of all the risks they will face but then they will have to get their PPE on then enter the building assessing further risks such as sturdiness of the floors, animal litter, smashed glass and rotting of the area as parts could collapse so they'd know if scaffolding will be needed or not beforehand. The state of the roof could also be assessed and looked at in case that’s in a state of collapsing as it’s a derelict building that’s been left for 10 years so they can use drones to send up looking at the state of the roof as they have the drone technology now but if they people are really skilled with the drones they can send them into the building to look at it instead of the site managers etc. 3
Unit 5 Assignment 2 Development Of Safe Systems Of Work 03/02/20 Calculating probability and severity Severity: Catastrophic - 4 Operating conditions are such that human error, environment, design deficiencies, element, subsystem or component failure, or procedural deficiencies may commonly cause death or major system loss, thereby requiring immediate cessation of the unsafe activity or operation. Critical - 3 Operating conditions are such that human error, environment, design deficiencies, element, subsystem or component failure or procedural deficiencies may commonly cause severe injury or illness or major system damage thereby requiring immediate corrective action. Marginal - 2 Operating conditions may commonly cause minor injury or illness or minor systems damage such that human error, environment, design deficiencies, subsystem or component failure or procedural deficiencies can be counteracted or controlled without severe injury, illness or major system damage. Negligible - 1 Operating conditions are such that personnel error, environment, design deficiencies, subsystem or component failure or procedural deficiencies will result in no, or less than minor, illness, injury or system damage. Probability: Frequent - 5 Likely to occur often in the life of an item Probable - 4 will occur several times in the life of an item Occasional - 3 Likely to occur sometime in the life of an item. Remote - 2 Unlikely but possible to occur in the life of an item. Improbable - 1 so unlikely, it can be assumed occurrence may not be experienced. How to Assess Risks Step 1:Identify hazards, i.e. anything that may cause harm. Step 2:Decide who may be harmed, and how. Step 3:Assess the risks and take action. Step 4:Make a record of the findings. Step 5:Review the risk assessment. 4
