1. Task-1:
Figure-1: Network Design
(Source- Created By Author)
The network has been built for the university in Coventry that carries out specific
tasks within the building that consists of three floors to be specific. The ground floor is
considered to be the main working area that consists of a segregated reception where three
hosts have been provided to attend the people coming into the building for gathering of
various information (Wang et al. 2017). In addition to this, there is the presence of a common
staff room that is usable by all the employees belonging to the organization.
Apart from this, there is the presence of three large-sized meeting rooms that have the
provision to hold 50 hosts each where 50 people at a time can enter and carry out conferences
or meetings on a daily basis. Along with this, there is the presence of 3 smaller-sized meeting
rooms that have the capacity of 4 people at a time and hence, the rooms have been
provisioned with 4 hosts for carrying out privatised interviews for the new joiners to the
company.
The middle floor is an open are office having the inclusion of movable dividers that
can be used for provisioning with the ease of working. This floor consists of the student

admission team along with the student support team (Bartwal et al. 2016). Hence, each of the
two teams have been provided with 5 hosts each to carry out their work on a daily basis.
The top floor is the place for the IT office area as well as smaller office for the senior
management team. Hence, each of the IT office area has been provided with 3 hosts each hat
can be increased as per the demand of the university. In addition to this, the senior
management offices have been provided with 10 hosts all together.
Beside this, the top floor has a separated room for spacing all the servers, the routers
as well as the switches along with other required network devices that form a primary
component of the network for the university that has been designed. Firstly, there is the
presence of a main router that carries out the responsibility of connecting all the sub routers
and the end devices to the servers for the required amount of connectivity (Ma, Song and Li
2017). Two of the servers are connected to the main router namely, the email server and the
iLearn Visual Server. In addition to this, a firewall is connected to the main router for
maintaining and monitoring over the security of the network on a constant basis.
There is the presence of three sub routers that carry out the responsibility of providing
each of the three floors with the network connectivity. The ground floor sub router is
connected to three switches. One switch connects the end devices of the three large-sized
meeting rooms, one switch connects the three smaller ones and the third switch connects the
hosts presence at the reception and the staff common room.
The sub router belonging to the middle floor is again connected to two switches, one
belonging to the admission team and the other one to the student support team (Thummaluru,
Kumar and Chaudhary 2019). Each of the two switches provide all the hosts in both the
teams with the required amount of connectivity.

The top floor consists of a single switch that connects to the IT office plan and the
senior management office providing them with the required amount of connection for internet
and other existing services such as the email and the iLearn virtual server resource. The
following network devices and cables have been used to design the whole system.
1.1 Connecting Cables:
For building the entire network as well as for connecting all the devices that are a
primary component of the network, Fibre-optic cables have been used (Saad, Khan and
Mahmood 2018). This particular type of cable provide with the highest rate of transmission
as well as communication throughout the entire network along with the required amount of
safety.
Name: Fibre-optic Cable.
Manufacturer: COMMSCOPE.
Price: £127.82.

1.2. Routers:
The network of the university has been provided with four routers that will carry out
the activity of gathering the connectivity from the servers and providing the same to the end-
user devices present within the network itself (Yu, Stamm and Hartanto 2018). The main
router will gather the connection directly from the servers and the sub routers with gather the
same connection from the main router and provide the same to the hosts of the respective
network.
Manufacturer: Motorola.
Model: Motorola MD 1600-10.
Price: £182.41.

1.3. Servers:
The network has been provided with two servers for providing the entire network with
the required amount of connectivity. There is the existence of the email server and that of the
iLearn virtual server. The email server will allow all the hosts to carry out the functionalities
