Project Description
Our project goal is to study the different types of networked applications and to create an
understanding based on analysis for the performance and management of the above networks and for
this we shall make use of the packet analyser, “WireShark”. The system performance and
management will be the criterias for the demonstration of the analytical ability. For this project, when
we will be accessing the two websites such as News channel websites and live streaming website, we
shall be capturing the packets on the two networks like Home network and MIT network. We shall be
studying and evaluating the captured packages and then finally preparing the report.
Our project has been divided into 4 parts,
1st Task – By making use of the capture start time, total number of captured packets, total
number of lost packets and IP address of the client and server, which are part of the
WireShark tool, we shall prepare the report for the general statistics for the four captures.
2nd Task – We shall determine the network performances like throughput, packet loss and
round trip time, so that the complete evaluation of the two networks can be carried out and the
report be made.
3rd Task – On two different networks we shall compare the collected Wireshark statistics of
the two different network applications.
4th Task – We shall compare the Microsoft message analyser with Wireshark.
In detail we shall evaluate and discuss all the above topics.
Part 1
Two networks were made use to capture packets. Here, we will analysis the Capture start
time, Total number of captured packets, Total number of lost packets and IP address of the client and
server shall be utilised for providing the statistical information about the captured packets.
Below we shall see their details,
News channel websites will be used to get the statistical information for the Home networks
and, same is represented in the image below [1].
