1SUMMARY OF THE ARTICLE
The continuous increasing rate of globalization of markets and the international
business from the extensive variety of business, huge multinational companies to small
intermediate size prizes are coming together for doing business in the global workplace
(Rogerson-Revell, 2007). This study will summarize the article by understanding the
usage of English in the international business. This study also sheds light on the
language problems that exists in the international context and also makes an evaluation
for finding the probable communication difficulties and the frustrations that could result
into barriers for the positive result. The article also involves the awareness and some
strategies that can be involved for overcoming them. The article argues the fact that the
usage of English is becoming crucial in the arena of international business.
The importance of the English language has become very crucial in the present
age. The extract of the article in the “New York Times” newspaper showed that the
usage of English in the global business that was established in Europe has assumed
great importance in the modern age of the international business. This study also
focuses on the context of the importance of using English as the global language for
carrying the international business meetings. It also talks about the challenges of
speaking English in relation to international business communications (Rogerson-
Revell, 2007).
This study also elaborates the problems of using English as the international
language, the major problem is that spreading of English is commonly detected as the
language problem and in the policy statements of Europe it is reflected that the
spreading of English is becoming a threat to engulf and are replacing the European
languages. Although by understanding the importance of the communication, the
international and the communication flow are considered as the central feature of the
organization for understanding the relationship between the operative communications
and the business result (Rogerson-Revell, 2007). The various functional role if English
in Europe is not only restricted to be used within the specific countries but it could be
illustrated in the global organizations. This is the place where it might be used as a
mother language (EMT) by the native English speaking workers but also as the lingua

franca (ELF) between the persons those are not native English speakers and as the
global language between ELF and EMT speakers(Rogerson-Revell, 2007).
This paper reports regarding the preliminary researches that forms part of the
larger scale study that investigates about the use of English like the lingua franca in the
international business meetings. This paper are also able to summarize about findings
of the questionnaire that explores utilization of EIB by the proper European Business
organizations (Rogerson-Revell, 2007). The English for global business (EIB) has
become a necessary function as the lingua franca in multilingual settings, it could also
present the challenges which are both linguistically and culturally, and it introduces
more and more interactions between the speakers, whose first languages are not
English.
The impact of the use of English language as the international language in the
international business market on Thailand. English has been increasingly used up in
Thailand like the lingua franca and it is used as the means of communication between
the people who do not shares English as the mother tongue nor speaking English as the
native languages. The addition of ASEAN nations to form an financial region, the usage
of English as lingua franca (ELF) in Thailand and other member states of ASEAN will
likely continue to increase at a significant rate (Jindapitak, 2018). It has been observed
that the increase in the usage of English language as the global language of
communication can be because of the two causes. The first causes involves the usage
of English as the ASEAN’s working lingua franca that has been brought into effect. The
second cause involves English as the promotional language like the official lingua
franca in ASEAN and the working language of ASEAN will be English (Jindapitak,
2018).
The adaptation of international language policy is not so easy and the companies could
stagger along the way. This is essential that it is almost certain for meeting the loyal
resistance from the employees. There are complexities in relation to the usage of the
English as it is used as the mother tongue, international language and the second
language. It can be said that the mobility of the boundaries of Europe along with the
growing opportunities in relation to cross-border trade has added to the complexity of

speaking the English Language throughout Europe (Hayes, 2016). For surviving and
thriving in the global economic market, the companies are required to overcome the
language barriers and English was chosen as the most common background for the
present situation. Thailand have taken the required steps for replacing their native
language and making English as the communication language in the business for the
global business approach. The employees also face issues regarding the speaking of
English that also affected the business operation process. As in most of the cases it
was found that the employees felt they have lost their value for the company as they
feel compelled to learn the English language. The native employees find themselves
diminished in the working place as they have to go through the learning of the foreign
languages. Thus it becomes difficult for them to understand the importance of the
foreign language and it also becomes impossible for them to accept the fact that they
are disqualified in the organization (Hayes, 2016).
Therefore from the above discussion, it can be concluded that introduction of English as
the international language within global market was first established within Europe . Due
to increasing rate of globalization every type of business market that is from the large
multinational companies to the small emerging business are entering in the global
business markets (Hayes, 2016). Thailand has implemented usage of the English as the
international language in the global business market. Although most of the organization
has implemented the policies of speaking English that can help them in dealing with the
global business market. The employees feel that they do not have any worth in the
organization as they have to adopt the use of foreign language in the business process.
They also feel themselves to be disqualified for their organization. This also has bad
effect in the business operation process (Hayes, 2016).
