The report highlights the importance of numeracy, data and IT in solving real world problems. It includes basic math and IT skills through graphical presentation. The report is divided into three parts covering various topics such as numerator, denominator, equivalent fractions, scientific notation, ranking, total number of medals, mean, median and standard deviation.

INTRODUCTION
Numeracy skills refers to the ability to use as well as interpret the mathematical
information in order to solve the real world problems. This in turn include the ability to
understand basic problem by using math in order to generate the best outcomes. Further, the
present study also assists to increase the skills pertaining to IT and numeracy. The present study
is based upon 3 parts where each section helps to understand the importance of numeracy, skills
and IT in order to generate the best outcomes. Thus, the report will provide an appropriate
answer by using basic math and IT skills through graphical presentation.
PART 1
Question 1
Numerator can be written as a factor and it is represented as a/b form. Here, the number
‘a’ is known as a numerator. Further, it is a Latin word which means number and it is always
recognized as a fraction which is recognized as a number of parts that needs be considered
(Lagisquet and et.al., 2021).
On the other side, denominator is that part of a fraction where below number is
recognized as denominator. For example, in the x/y, ‘y’ is recognized as denominator and it is
also work as a divisor of the numerator which indicate the equal parts of a number in a defined
set (Craig, 2018). Also, the numerator represents the number of parts out of whole, recognized as
a denominator.
Question 2
24/40 can be written as 3/5
18/42 can be written as a simplest form in 3/7
The steps in order to get the above answer is such that determine the Highest common factor
(HCF) of both numerator as well as denominator. Therefore, for 24 and 40, the HCF is 8 or 18,
whereas for 18 and 42, it is 6. Moreover, divide the numerator and denominator by the chosen
HCF. Through this, it will be easy to get an answer in a reduced form or lowest form.
Question 3
a) The equivalent fraction with a denominator of 12 is as mentioned below:

2/3 = 2*4/ 3*4 = 8/12
3/4 = 3*3 / 4*3 = 9/12
5/6 = 5*2 / 6*2 = 10/12
b)
It has been cleared that there are total 60000 books, in which 14000 are topic of business,
22000 are healthcare and 12000 are psychology and law. The remaining books are 60000 –
(14000 + 22000 + 12000) = 12000
Then the percentage of books can be drawn are as mentioned below = 12000 * 2/3 =
8000
At % = 8000 * 100 / 60000 = 13.33%
Question 4
There are two number of pairs of shoes brought by Liz and total money given = £50*3 =
£150
Therefore, price of two shoes = total money given by Liz - money that she returned
= £150 - £10.50 = £139.50
Thus, worth of one couple will be = £139.50 / 2 = £69.75

a) 240.50 * 19.54 = 4699.37
b) 52100 as a power of 10
It can be written in the scientific notation where 52100 can multiplied by 10000, in order
to get 5.21 * 10^4
Question 6
a) Patty and her 2 sibling pay £210 with a 30% discount.

To calculate the total savings, she paid 70% amount, let total discount be 100% and 30% is
offered as a discount so, 70% is consider as a paid.
Thus, 70% = £210
= 210 / 70 = £3
So, 1% is £3, then 100% will be £300
Therefore, the total saving = £300 - £210 = £90
b) In order to calculate the average saving per person, divide the amount by 3 (because patty and
her 2 sibling)
£90 / 3 = £30
Question 7
a)
3/4 - 7/9 + 2/3
By simplifying this,
3/4 = 0.75
7/9 = 0.78
2/3 = 0.66
= 0.75 – 0.78 + (0.66)
= 0.63
b) 0.01 is the largest number.
Question 8
Total person = 90 + 60 = 150
Therefore, 3/5 total people said yes = 3/5 * 150 = 90
Here, 3/10 women said yes which in turn shows that3/10 of 90 = 27 are women
So, 90 – 27 = 63 men supposed yes

Whereas, men who said no = 90 – 63 = 27
Thus, 27 males said no from the total population.
Question 9
The time of conference in Birmingham is 10:30 AM. So, she takes to leave at 8:00 Am from her
family. As per the arrival time of time, she takes 1 hour to be at station i.e. 9:00 AM. However,
Birmingham train run at following 5 minutes, 25 minutes and 45 minutes past the hour. Thus,
she will be on time i.e. 9:58 AM.
As per the schedule of train, she will be reach at 10:15 AM. Also, the conference site in
Birmingham is 5-minute waking distance from station so she will be reached the venue at 10:20
AM. Hence, it can be stated that she will be reach exactly 10 minutes before the meeting as per
the given information.
Question 10
The mass of Shredded wheat is 0.35 kg, whereas the box of Weetabix weights is 9/25 kg
i.e. 0.36 kg. This in turn shows that Weetabix is denser by 0.01 kg than other.

Question 11
a)
From the given table, it has been identified that Hungary is the only country which has a
lowest number of overall medals from the top 10 countries because it has received only 491
medals till the specified date.
b)
There are 10 games completed by China and Soviet Union and these two are the only
country which completed the required number of games within a summer Olympics Games.
c)
Mode refers to the repetitive number within a given data set. That is why, it can be stated
from the defined data set i.e. 27 is the number of matches which is repetitive during entire
matches. Hence, the mode is 27.

d)
The range of the given data can be defined as difference between maximum and
minimum value which means that 1022 – 147 = 875. It can be derived from the data set provided
which includes overall countries list.
e)
There are 4 countries which got silver model as compared to Bronze medal such as
China, Great Britain, Soviet Union, United States.
f)
In accordance with the given data set, it has been identified that there are only two
countries which includes Soviet Union, Germany.
g)
In order to determine the maximum number of medals received per following calculation
used.
In accordance with the above table, it has been identified that Soviet Union is the only
country who perform the best as comparing to the model per game.

h)
The two reasons which stated that Jamaica is the country which is participate in the event
and not even suitable for the athletics is such that:
 The population of the quoted country is quite low as compared to other one and that is
why, the chances of getting involves within the athletics is low (Yasukawa and et.al.,
2018).
 Another reason of not participated in the games is such that the country does not have
enough and able competent to take part in the games, as other country has strong
competent where they can make their country proud.
i)
In order to determine the category of medal, in which US far outperformed its closest
competitor, the following steps has been taken which is as mentioned below: Also, the biggest
and closet competitor of US is Soviet Union and also, by using the formula of number of medal
category of Soviet Union divided by number of medals category. These is as mentioned below:
Gold 440/ 1122* 100 43.05%
Silver 357/790*100 44.96%
Bronze 325/704* 100 46.16%
As per the above calculation, it has been clearly identified that US performed well i.e.
43.05% well in order to get the Gold medal as compared to other countries.
j)
There are three countries which had greatest consistently dispersed number of gold, silver
and bronze medal., the following formula has been used in order to get the accurate results.
Maximum number of define category in each column / Minimum number of define
category in each column. Thus, the calculation for each country is as mentioned below:

In accordance with the above table, the nations which have evenly most dispersed amount
of Gold, silver and Bronze i.e. least small range are Hungary, Italy, Germany.

For ranking, use the formula Rank(number, ref, [order]) in the spreadsheet. The steps are
as mentioned below:
Step 1: determine the value of column and row like, question rank will be done on basis of total
number of each country.
Step 2: To run a formula, put values and press enter (Evans, 2017).
Step 3: drag the mouse button in order to calculate the values for ranking for each country.

In order to determine the list of states with 800 or more awards, IF formula has been used
with the following syntax: IF (logical test, [value if true], [value if false].

From the above, it has been examined that there are four countries who received more
than 800 medals which are Germany, Great Britain, Soviet Union and United States.

It has been analysed that there are different various forms and types of graphs in an excel,
but in order to represent the gold, it is suggested to use line graph. However, there are different
other charts also available or suitable to represent the data in an effective manner i.e. cluster
common as well as bar chart, scattered line chart etc.

d)
The duplication of the data might affect the results in opposite manner because it is the
movement of the data at a specific point of a time. Therefore, it is used when it is not possible to
determine the value of all column by inserting formula at every point. Such that in order to
calculate the rank of Australia, the formula of rank is used and when calculation of rank of
remaining 9 countries performed, through the duplication using drag method.
e)
In order to evaluate the overall total medals awarded, it is essential to apply the formula
of sum which is Sum(number 1, number 2…..). Thus, by applying the same within a given
dataset i.e. Sum (F70:F79)
Question 14
a)
For total number of medals won by listed countries, the formula is used i.e. SUM
(C84:E84) for Germany. Whereas, for Great Britain SUM(C85:E85).

Thus, it can be stated that there are 937 medals won by Germany and 847 won by Great
Britain.

The formula of average is used i.e. Average(B91:B95), then 209.8 is the answer.

Step 1: Apply the formula of IF in the sheet by putting the condition less than 20, as mentioned
below:

To determine the value of Italy, VLOOKUP formula is used which entails the
corresponding values. Thus, by applying the formula of VLOOKUP(“Italy”; A113:F123; 6;
False), the results shows the value of 577.

The median of each type of medal can be enumerated by using the formula Median
(values). Thus, the value is as mentioned below:

The mean of the data set can be calculated by using the average formula, which is as
mentioned below:

The formula used in order to get the standard deviation is √ ∑ (x – u)2 / N. This is used for
each country in order to determine answer for entire countries. This is as mentioned below:

Through the above calculation, it has been identified that the standard deviation is
√3432426.9 / 10. Thus, the answer is 585.869.
d)
Standard deviation is a basic mathematical concept which actually measures the
instability in a market. As per the per given dataset, the usefulness of standard deviation is as
mentioned below:
 It determines how much the data is clustered around the mean value and that is why, it
assists to generate the best outcome within a given data set (Shi and et.al., 2020).
 It also provides accurate idea in order to distribute the data in an effective manner. In the
context of present study, the entire data is distributed in a well manner that helps to
determine the data in an effective manner.

The contribution of each country can be calculated by using he formula medals of each
country / overall medals, which is multiplied by 100.

CONCLUSION
By summing up above report, it has been concluded that having an effectual knowledge
pertaining to numeracy, data and IT assists to generate the best outcomes and this in turn provide
effective results as well. Also, by using math and its basic calculations, the study generate
accurate results which assist to raise the knowledge pertaining to the same. Overall, it can be
stated that through the present study, IT skills raise because the use of excel in a study will
assists to generate the best outcomes.
