VIRTUALIZED INFRASTRUCTURE 2
Organization Network Infrastructure
Project Scope
The project at hand entails establishment of a virtualized infrastructure to optimize
Information Technology at ABC Limited. The organization have 4 virtual servers namely,
ServerDC1, ServerDC2, ServerSA1, and ServerDM1. Two of the virtual machines,
ServerSA1 and ServerDM1 are off. The current project involves the setup of ServerDC1 and
ServerDM2 as the new virtual servers at ABC. ServerDC1 is will be domain controller that
will respond to secure authentication request in the entire ABC. It will run on Windows
Server 2016 that has formidable capability to manage windows domain resources. It will be
responsible for authenticating users, storing user accounts profiles, and enforcing security
policy.
Task 1
Requirements
1. VirtualBox 6.0.12
2. Windows Server 2016
3. Serve Computer or a 64bit PC
4. Windows 7, 8. 8.1. or 10 work stations
The virtualization software that shall be used in the setup is VirtualBox 6.0.12. The
virtualization software offers both GUI and command line for management of the virtual
machines. One of the main advantages of VirtualBox id that it runs most of the popular
Operating Systems such as Windows, Linux, Solaris, and MacOS (Watson, 2018).
Additionally, it supports a variety of guest Operating Systems that include exotics such a
OS/2 ad Win 3.1. It has an in-built GUI for all the virtual machines, and Remote Desktop

Protocol for access of the virtual machines over the network. The NIC card to be used in the
setup is the AMD PCNet FAST III because it is supported by nearly all platforms (Watson,
2018). Thus, the setup remains highly scalable and ready for future expansion with different
operation platforms. Other cards that VirtualBox can virtualize are Intel Pro/ 1000 MT
Desktop, Intel Pro/ 1000 T Server, and Intel Pro/ 1000 MT Server.
Setting up the server in the VirtualBox environment will require the network adapter
which must be set to Internal Network. The name should also match those for all the hosts
that belong to the same internal network. The default name is intent but can be changed to

user’s preference.
To set up the ServerDC1, one clicks on the blue New button and picks the version of
the OS and memory capacity. The hard drive setting should be left at default setting, then the
admin selects Create.
On the storage tab, under the storage tab one has to select the Disc icon and browse to
the location of the Windows Server 2016 ISO file (Watson, 2018). So that the VM boots like
a real machine would do from a physical CD.

The rest of the installing takes place just like it does in installation of Windows Server
2016 on a real server machine.
For the SerevrDC1 and SeverDM2 to interact with the external there must be bridge
connection. The virtual bridge can be achieved by the use of pFSense (Watson, 2018). It
creates a virtual router that can be configured in bridge mode. Under the Network tab, under
Adapter1, the admin must make sure the adapter is “Attached to” the Bridge Adapter.

VIRTUALIZED INFRASTRUCTURE 6
Boop up the VM and press enter on the screen.

VIRTUALIZED INFRASTRUCTURE 7
One should quickly engage the installer by pressing letter “i” on the keyboard.
Once the installation of the pfSense is complete, one should eject the CD and reboot.
During reboot, the admin must avoid the questions regarding setup of VLANs since none is
required (Watson, 2018). He or she will be asked to enter the LAN and WAN interface
details. He should set them to em1 and em0 for LAN and WAN respectively as shown in the

image below;
When the LAN and WAN setting have taken effect, the next step is to configure IP
subnet for the Local Area Network by pressing 2. In the current exercise the IP address sued
is 10.0.0.254 with a 24-bit mask (255.255.255.0) (Watson, 2018). there is no use of setting
up DHCP because the servers should have static IP. In addition, the IP addressing should
