Date: 15 January 2018.
Introduction:
Within tourism industry, attractions play vital role of destination and source of
entertainment. Venues that can work an outlet for knowledge, activities, interactions, etc.
serve at visitor attractions by making fantasies of tourist a reality.
On a broad basis, these attractions can be classified as natural and human-made attractions.
A brief of each category is provided here:
Man-made tourist attractions: They can be defined as phenomenon that may be
structured or events created by humans for a specific reason. Since human history, a part of
culture is being shared with its inscription on the structures that are made by man.
Knowledge to be shared with coming generations was carved onto structure formed in
ancient ages (Bærenholdt, et. al., 2017). The trend had been followed till now. Recent day's
man-made attractions consist of statues, galleries, museums, amusement parks, etc. where
focus of formulation is shifted from knowledge and culture sharing or value based on
entertainment. Events and festival organized frequently with diverse additions also act as
interaction medium and cultural exploration platform for tourists further attracting them to
visit places (Telfer & Sharpley, 2015).
Natural tourist attractions: All the places that crave attention of visitors who wish to
enjoy naturally carved beauty is termed as natural tourist attractions. Human’s contribution
in formulation of such venue is no more than zero. Natural attractions consist of lakes,
rivers, mountains, deserts, beaches, etc. Amusement and adventure provision of stated sites
is completely natural enhanced with human equipment in order to get engaged with them
(Benur & Bramwell, 2015). Some examples are Lake Windermere, Pembroke shire Coast,
etc.

On a more generalized basis of reasoning and purpose attractions are again can be divided
into two types that are purpose-built and built for another purpose. Briefing of these two is
as follows:
Built on purpose for tourist attraction: Most of the structures made in recent years have
a purpose of playing role of attractions for all the visitors wanting to explore a destination
with final aim of attaining economic growth. Such planned structures and events can be
identified as built for attraction purpose (Bærenholdt, et. al., 2017). Such venues are with
less sentimentality and moral attachment but are with objectives to provide entertainment.
Some of the examples of purpose-built structures are London Eye, Thorpe Park, etc.
Build for another purpose but turns out to be a visitor attraction at the end:

A lot many historical structures made in medieval period and early ACs falls under this
category of visitor attractions. Castles and galleries made with some specific purpose while
formation ended up as visitors attractions feeding tourists with their historical worth (Telfer
& Sharpley, 2015). Such structures play major role in tourism industry as they have more
of valuation and antiquity which fascinates large population of visitors. A few examples of
this segment are York Minster, Windsor Castle, etc.
Attractions' valuation and popularity are also influenced by its reach. With increasing
importance and provisions the popularity may vary from local to worldwide. Most national
attractions consist of national parts and cultural heritages that government takes full
responsibility of by either taking care of it or by distributing its ownership (Bond, et. al.,
2015).
