VOCABULARY AND EDUCATION
Identification language and vocabulary which is appropriate to the age of the learner, level
of understanding and proficiency
Education is one of the prime requirements of life. However, this level of education
should be in consonance with the mental maturity of the learner. The cognitive development of
an individual varies from age to age. This is because much of the cognitive development depends
upon the experiences gained by the learner and by the level of education received by them
(Bakhsh 2016). It depends upon the teachers to understand the level of cognitive development of
an individual and accordingly impart information to them, which according to the teachers, will
be imbibed effectively by the individual. In such a situation it is important for the teachers to
identify the language and vocabulary which is appropriate to the age of the learner, level of
understanding and proficiency (Pinter 2017). For instance, at a young age, the level of
understanding of a child is comparatively less. In this respect, very simple vocabulary needs to
be taught to them and simple words need to be used during conversation and teaching process.
This will enable the learner to increase his or her level of proficiency and level of understanding.
Once they are made to understand simple and easy vocabulary, steps may be taken to teach them
complex vocabulary for further development of their process of understanding.
New ways of introducing words and language structures to extend their vocabulary and
structural command
For effective teaching process, it is important to introduce new methods of teaching. A
particular idea can be communicated to an individual in a proper manner if it is deeply embedded
in the minds of the learner. In this sense, it is vital for the teachers to introduce new vocabulary
and language structures to the individual learners in order to expand their knowledge base. For
this purpose, different methods can be taken in to consideration (Bland 2015). For instance, the

teacher can undertake the method of demonstration and visual aid for teaching the language of
English. In the case of young children, the teacher can show them placards of the particular
object, such as an ‘apple’ or a ‘dog’ or a ‘horse’ and ask them to say in English the name of the
object. Moreover, the teacher tell them an object such as that of ‘mat’ and ask the learners to
draw the picture that comes to their minds when they hear the word (DeKeyser 2018). The
knowledge of the learners can be assessed in an effective manner if periodical assessment tests
are taken. For instance, the teacher will be able to understand if the learner draws some other
object when they have been asked to draw a ‘mat’. This will enable the teacher to understand the
area where the knowledge of the learner is lacking and they will then be able to undertake
effective measure to improve on the knowledge base of the child.
