Scandal
• The Volkswagen group that
performed the scandal is a
German automotive
manufacturing company.
• It is a multinational company
having its headquarters in
Germany.
• Earlier, Volkswagen had a huge
faith of customers in the US as
well as across globally, however,
the event was considered as a
major shock for the performance
and success of the company.2

Eruption of
the Scandal
• The subjective scandal erupted
in September 2015.
• It was when Volkswagen
accepted that the same placed
defeat devices in nearly
600,000 of its automobiles with
the intention to circumvent the
emission tests (Mansouri, 2016).3

What has Volkswagen
done?
• It has been cheating in the emission
tests by means of making its car
appear less polluting than they are.
• The US Environmental Protection
Agency have discovered that about
482,000 Volkswagen diesel cars on
the American roads were making an
emission of about 40 times more
toxic fumes than it was permitted.
• Volkswagen has since then admitted
the cheat affects about 11 meter
cars all around the world.
• Volkswagen made use of “defeat
device” as a program in the
engine software rather than a
physical device.
• Clean diesel engines are there
which reduce emissions via
various techniques such as
exhaust flows, adjustment of air-
fuel ratios and injections of the
urea-based solution in order to
render Nitrogen Oxide. Cars of
Volkswagen were not eligible to
operate in this manner.
