INTRODUCTION
Management information system can be described as information system that can be used for
purpose of making decision and also for collaborating visualise, control and analyse different
information of organisation (Afsah, Laplante and Wheeler, 2019). It consists study of different
components like people, technology and process in context of organisation. It uses these
components in order to process, store data which allow them for purpose of making decision.
Main goals of this system in collection of information from different types of sources in order to
gain insights which is required for growth of business. This project report includes analysation of
Walmart which is a American company providing its operation in different countries. It was
introduced by Sam Walton in the year 1962 in U.S. It is a organisation which work as per hyper
market, grocery stores, departmental stores. This report includes description of different business
units of Walmart that are interconnected along with different organisation chart, data flow
diagram in order to represent dependence of different unit of business. It also describes different
forms of data and its roles in data warehousing in Walmart. Moreover, it taking into
consideration of information related to latest programme of Walmart.

Walmart is one of growing company which are transforming its retail company into super
market chain as it has around 11500 stores that consist different hypermarket, super market as
well as departmental stores. It is a largest organisation which create employment opportunity to
number of employees by hiring them of purpose of carry out their operation and also serving to
millions of customers in market (Bak and Mill, 2020). Walmart is one of organisation which is
making billions of money that are considered to be highest earning company with development
of revenue in market and consider different capital of around 500 billion dollars.
Goal of Walmart is to be a market leader who can control prices and also to made
investment for different things that is competitive and also offering products with a aim of EDLP
that stands for everyday low prices (Centobelli, Cerchione and Esposito, 2018). Walmart is
competing with their strategy to control over expenses which occur with their operation and also
making investment in production. It is one of organisation that is using omni channel which

helps customers for purpose of offering products in different form and can also provide at
different location in US and other countries.
Different business units are present of Walmart which are interconnected with each other. These
units are company are mentioned below:
Walmart discounts store: It is one of departmental store which can be existed in
different sizes that consist around 30000 sq feet to 221000 sq feet area. It consists different stores
which offer different items like garden centre, groceries as well as general merchandise. Walmart
has introduced the original concept which later have been transformed into super centres. In
1990, Walmart has opened its Bud’s discount city location which is in Bentonville among which
different location of it is opened for lease.
Walmart Super centre: It is considered as similar to hypermarket that are different in
size like 69000 to 26000 Sq Feet. It is one of supermarket chain that provide different type of
goods like baked goods, fresh sea food, dairy food, frozen food and others (Fenech, Baguant and
Ivanov, 2019). But there are some super centre which provide pharmacy, garden canter, lube
express, tire and many other things. In many of their supercentre, Walmart have featured
McDonald but in the year 2007, they made some correction and stopped featuring McDonald.
Instead of featuring McDonald, this organisation started featuring Subways along with them.
There is around 120000 items that can be sold through Walmart supercentre whereas 35 Million
products can be sold through online platforms.
Walmart neighbourhood market: Market is standing at fifth position in terms of size
after supercentre of Walmart. It is a supermarket chain that offer groceries to different people. I
was opened after starting of supermarket chain in market and doing different operating activities.
In 2010, concentration of Walmart is on small groceries store that consist mainly three
categories. In this first category is related to grocery that consist around 55% of revenue of
company and second part is one which consist pharmacy and anther is fuel. In this price of any
product is equal to product offer at large supercentre of Walmart.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure of a company should be efficient as well as effective in
order to improve performance, providing solution to problem for different solution and also for
improving availability of stock (Guha and Kumar, 2018). It is essential for a Walmart to allocate
different resources in order to operate business in effective manner. Infrastructure of this
organisation is similar to other business units which are operating in market. It is responsibility

of management of a company to develop business plan of company in way which provide them
various benefits and also is beneficial for them. It also helps them to provide products and
service to customers in manner which provide them benefits and also satisfy their needs and
demands. Investment of Walmart in products as well as infrastructure of company can be done
for purpose of providing customer with range of products that create benefits to them for
increasing their demands.
All these divisional units of business that are working and contributing in different areas
and also offer different products to customers. These are also using different resource in all their
department and their store. There is similarity among these units as it allows them to build a
connection on basis of products offered by them and prices of products. It is essential to make
connection among these units as it allows them to work on same basis and also allow them to
attain ultimate goals and objectives of organisation. These business units are also using different
software in their organisation which helps them for purpose of taking record of things which are
present in different store and also helps for purpose of providing it in a store.
Different forms of data and role or responsibility of data warehousing in Walmart
Walmart is among largest retailing organisation which has expand its reach to
international level and serve its products and service at global level. It is providing different
development opportunity to people who are working in their organisation. In order to manage
this large organisation, it is required for them to manage and update their data for purpose of
ensuring growth of their business (Haldorai and Ramu, 2020). It is also important for managers
of company to manage other promotional activity in order to increase awareness of customers.
Different section is used in Walmart in order to effective manner information structure of
company and these sections in context of company are mentioned below:
Executive Support System: It is one of information structure in which companies are
involved for purpose of specific system that are used for purpose of developing different
strategies for business through their executives (Ikramov, Mamajonov and Toshpulatov, 2019). It
is one of system that can be used by managers of Walmart in order to collect and manage
information related to their day-to-day activities that are essential in order to perform daily
functioning. This organisation can use this system for purpose of analysing status of inventory
management that is depended on current sales of organisation. It is essential information system
for purpose of collecting data.

Decision Support system: It is one of computerised programme which can be used by
companies for purpose of making decision. It is used for making huge amount and also helping
companies for analysing huge amount of data and also managing it in systematic manner for
resolving problems that occur in order to mitigating business (Jeong and Ramírez-Gómez, 2018).
It is a system that are used for purpose of making decision in order to provide benefits to
organisation. It is a system that helps managers of Walmart for making effective decision in
order to provide different benefits to organisation also to manage different merchandise of
company in a manner that enhance satisfaction of customers.
Evaluation of current IS at Walmart: In case of Walmart, managers are using CAMELs
approach which consist capital adequacy, sensitive factors and earning of company. It is a
suitable system which helps managers of company in retailing sector. Walmart is using this
system for purpose of managing and updating retailing data. It is a organisation which is also
using API model for purpose of managing big data in a systematic manner (Peeters and Widlak,
2018). Managers of Walmart is believing that it is important to manage data on a regular basis
which is important for purpose of safety of data. In order to protect data from threat of losing
data, managers of company is using public cloud services that provide various infrastructural
benefits to their business.
Recommendation
It is recommended to managers of Walmart that they should use information system that
will helps them for purpose of understanding needs of employees and customers and providing
solution to their problem and needs with their operation. It is essential to use these system for
purpose of managing and sorting these data in efficient manner which will helps them for finding
out specific data that does not waste their time.
It is also advised to managers of Walmart that they should emphasis on both qualitative
as well as quantitative data in order to made decision in company. It assist them in order to
analysing different factors in process of decision making in effective manner and evaluation
factors that can create more serious impact on operation of company. This evaluation is
important as it allow them to identify factors that affect their operation and also to allow them for
using different tools in their business.
Managers of Walmart is also recommended that they should make update in their
software for purpose of adding new feature for managing data collection and also to other

management activities. It decrease threat of data loosing and data breaching of company as
updates in software helps to remove bugs in existing version.
It is also suggested to managers of company that they should assign responsibility related to
handling data to employees who posses required skills as well as experience. These employees
should have knowledge about data handling and also allow them to overcome of different
problems.
Technology strategy to enable big data strategy:
Data of organisation can be managed through technology which is important in order to
make organisation more competitive and also to protect personal information of company from
unauthorised assess. Technology are used in advance and upgrade companies in order to manage,
store, use data in efficient manner (Pinho, Franco and Mendes, 2018). It is important for an
organisation to anal use and introduce new ways for managing data in efficient manner as it can
provide them competitive advantage. Different methods of data collections are important in
company as it assist them for purpose of collecting and analyse data of employees which is
important in order to satisfy needs of employees. These technologies are also important for them
for purpose of enhancing skills of employees. Different types of technologies are in trends in
market which are important for purpose of analysation of tool that helps them to attain objectives
of company. In order to get success, managers of company should concentrate on long term

person and hackers can steal important, confidential and personal information of business and
can provide it to competition. It can results in huge loss to company and make is essential for
managers of Walmart to use secure as well as protected devices in their business and also helps
company for purpose of keeping safe their data from other person.
Implement expenses: Information system can results in increasing cost of company as it
require huge investment. It require both time as well as investment for purpose of installing latest
software and technologies (Wang and Wang, 2020). In order to manage these technologies and
installing it in effective manner, it is important for them to provide training to employees for
entering data in software.
More dependence on technology devices: With advancement of technology, company

There are different types of general data protection regulation which are considered to be
toughest as well as difficult laws for privacy and security. It is a laws which is made for purpose

mentioned below:

Ethical Concern: Ethical practices are those practices which are concerned with different values
that is essential in order to run a business or to work in a company. It is important for employees
to work in an organisation with loyalty and use data of company for purpose of benefit of
business (Will, 2018). They should not release important information of company to their
organisation. It is also important for management of company to provide proper training to staff
of company that are working in IT. Managers of company also needs to ensure proper training
regarding data of company as it allow them to provide them knowledge that how to behave while
data of company has been hacked. Information related to business are confidential which should
be protected from competitors as it can results in huge loss for company. It is essential for

Legal Concern: Legal factors are essential for a company as it can create impact over survival
for business. There are different types of rules, laws and and regulation related to privacy and
security concern for information system. These laws and code of conduct helps companies in
order to protect their information system from authorise access and hackers. Walmart is one of
organisation which has developed their own standards and policies in their business which are to
be adopted by employees of company. Management of Walmart needs to work with their
policies and standards in order to resolve these issues and also follow different regulation in
market.
Professional Concern: Professionalism is important in different corporate offices in order to
maintain a border with seniors and colleagues. This professionalism is focus on interest of
organisation should be put forward over personal interest of a person. In reference of Walmart,
managers of company needs to maintain professionalism at workplace and should not provide
these information to third person for their personal benefit (Zhu and Kouhizadeh, 2019). It is
important for them to follow all code of conduct and policies of their organisation while person
and also should ignore their personal issues with any person in organisation while dealing with
employees. It is important in order to improve efficiency of employees and also allow company
to service to their customers in effective manner. It is essential for managers of company to
handle to information system of company in manner which create positive impact over
performance of their employees.

From above mentioned project report, it can be concluded that it is important for a company to
manage information and data as it will helps them for purpose of attainment of their goals
effectively. It is also important for an organisation as it helps them for solving various problems
occur at organisation. There is increasing use of technologies and different software at workplace
which is important in order to improve their efficiency. It provide various advantage and
disadvantage of it for company as it improve their efficiency and productivity but increase threat
for them by increasing cost, threat for security training to employees and others.
