The report will be based on Walmart Inc. Walmart Inc. is an American multinational retail organization having headquarter in Bentonville, US. The company operates in discount departmental stores, grocery stores, chain of hypermarkets etc. The present report will discuss the definition and comparison between leader and manager. Further, the report will discuss the role of leader and function of manager of Walmart Inc. in different situational context. In addition, the report will discuss the three theories of approach such as situational, system and contingency leadership based on Walmart Inc. examples. The report will also explain the importance and value of operational management in the achievement of business objectives. Further, the report will also discuss the key approaches to operations management and the role that leader and managers plays. Lastly, the report will assess the factors within the business environment via PEST analysis that operational management and Walmart Inc. leader & manager decisions. 1. Presenting definition and comparison of leader and manager Definition of leader: A leader is basically a person in the charge that convinces the other people and inspire confidence in other people so that they can achieve their targets on a daily basis (Choi, Wallace and Wang, 2018).For example, in Walmart Inc. the work of employees is closely managed and supervise by the leaders on a daily basis. Leader reaction: The leader of Walmart Inc. in this situation conducts a meeting with the employees to listen each employee concern and also solve the problem with there own skills and though process (Rahman, 2019). They also guide the employee to remain polite with its customer in the store’s despite of any internal conflict. Situation 2: Poor Quality of Walmart Products and services This is another situation of Walmart Inc. where employee of company unable to complete their task on time during the high demand in the market. The work load has affected the quality of Walmart products as well as services as employee are working in a demotivated stage and negative workplace environment. Leaders’ reaction: In this situation, leader of Walmart has adopted strategies to motivate the teams of Walmart so that they can work positively during work-load. The strategy adopted by Walmart leader is creating a positive work environment and providing food party to employee in lunch break, institute casual dress days within the organization.

Application of different theories of approaches within Walmart Inc. The three most significant theories of approaches that should be implement by the leaders of Walmart Inc within the organization are as follows: Situational Leadership: This is a first theory which state that the leader with the implementation of this style can adjust there way of leading after evaluating their organization and team.For example, in the case of uncertain situation such as Covid-19, leaders face difficulty in keeping their employees motivated because of work from home as well as cut in their salary. So, with the help of situational leadership theory they can adjust their leadership style i.e., rather than being strict the leader can remain flexible and calm with its employee in the current situation. Systems Leadership: The system leadership theory is basically a set of skills and capabilities that leaders can adopt in order to support system level change process within the organization (Lai and et.al., 2019).For example, due to continuous change in technological world, the use of systems also gets changes which affect the work of the employees. So, the leaders of Walmart Inc. can use this theory of approach to guide their team members on any system change. This also help the leaders to mobilize innovation and action across a large. Contingency leadership: This theory state that the success of the leaders depends on the action as well as reaction of leaders in a particular situation.For example, the leaders of Walmart Inc. can use the decision-making theory model of contingency leadership to first analyse the situation, assess their impact over group and then determine the steps they can adopt to support the group (Guo and Ling, 2020). This will help the leaders of Walmart to understand the contingent situation that might arise in future and the way they can adopt to reduce the negative impact of that contingent situation.

The manager can adopt this process and guide the team leaders regarding the same. Further, the team leaders will provide the training to employee of Walmart so that their efficiency will improve, wastage of resources get decrease and defect in products will also terminate that result into higher quality production with 99.6666% defect free. In Walmart HRM is laid out strategically so all the personnels are driven toward achieving the goals of the organization.
