The employment regards a full-time housekeeping job position at the Walt Disney
World resort hotels. The job gives the opportunity to join the Walt Disney world hosts who
make the guests’ dreams come true (Walt Disney World Website, n.d.).
The job roles in connection with the strategy
The job involves various activities such as cleaning the guest rooms, stripping and
making beds, vacuuming, dusting and availing new supplies of items including linen,
amenities and other supplies required by the guests (Walt Disney World Website, n.d.). The
roles fulfil the strategy of ensuring that the hotels stay very clean and maintain the highest
levels of hygiene. The organisation ensures that neatness is part of each employees work. The
roles fulfil the mission of developing memories and homelike experiences through offering
high levels of sanitation. The guest prefers visiting places free from exposure to illnesses
caused by low hygiene levels. The cleanliness at the hotel aims at appealing to the guests and
creating a memorable experience at the hotels (Nicolas Bacon, 2010).
Additional roles include interacting with the guests, consistent response to guest
requests and assisting with information (Walt Disney World Website, n.d.). The roles fulfil
the objective of ensuring that the guest does not get lost while staying at the hotel or fail to
use some facilities due to lack of information. The roles aim at ensuring that the guest gets
everything needed quickly without failure provided the hotel offer the item. The roles fulfil
the mission of giving an away from home experience by ensuring that the customers get a
quick response to requests (Nicolas Bacon, 2010).
The appraisal should have job responsibilities such as cleaning and interacting with
the guests. Therefore, the appraisal should focus on how an employee upholds hygiene and
the levels of interaction with the guests (Alfsen, 2012). The interaction should promote a
friendly environment at the hotels. Moreover, the appraisal should focus on the desired

behaviour such as quality of work, punctuality, interaction with the employees and
effectiveness at work. The desired behaviour help in achieving the set objectives of the
hotels. Moreover, the appraisal should identify the basic skills required to work at the hotel.
The skills include that should have attained at least 18 years of age, the willingness to lift
heavy things and work with chemicals, availability to work full-time during shifts at any time
of the day including weekends and holidays (Walt Disney World Website, n.d.). Therefore,
the appraisal should identify the ability of the employees to adhere to the required
qualifications.

Reason for approach selection
The reason for choosing the behaviour trait approach lies in the need to ensure that the
employees behave appropriately to achieve the objectives. The resort requires that the
employees uphold the work behaviour to ensure that the customers get a magical experience
at the hotel. Moreover, the appraisal provides the best means of judging the employees since
the behaviour at work is key to yielding results (Appraisal Methods, 2018).
Approach alignment to the strategy and mission
The Walt Disney world management uses the employee traits or characteristics
approach to employee appraisal. The approach focusses on the behaviour of the employees
such as interaction with customers, effectiveness, punctuality and performing quality work.
The traits approach aligns with the mission due to the emphasis on personal qualities that
ensure that the customers get a magical experience at the hotel (Griffin, 2018).
Appraisal and the organisation structure
The management performs the appraisals on the employees on a monthly basis to
determine the employees that uphold the best conduct (Alfsen, 2012). The management gives
feedback to the employees in the form of a behaviour score. The employees with high scores
