Task 1:
It has been observed by analysing the records of the manufacturing industries present
in United Kingdom, that there are significant amounts of industrial wastage in those
manufacturing companies. These wastage are considered as industrial hazards which has a
huge impact on the workplace environment. Thus, In order to reduce the workplace hazards,
enhance the financial and environmental states the industry should adopt some wastage
legislation for their employees.
According to (Sang-Il 2016) several techniques present in industrial field to minimize the
wastage are described below:
Pre-Treatment of Industrial Wastage:
This procedure is followed by pre-processing of the raw materials. By adopting this
technique it will help to eliminate harmful elements from the raw materials, which will be
used by the industry. Thus, in order to reduce the industrial wastage the company must
include this technique in their wastage legislation process. The Environmental Permitting
(England and Wales) Regulations 2010 and Landfill Allowance Scheme (Wales) has been
imposing restriction on different type and amount of waste that can be disposed of in landfills
in England and Wales. The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste)
Regulations 2007 place responsibility on the producers of packaging waste to recover and
recycle a certain amount of packaging.
Maximum Utilization of raw material:
Another effective way of reducing the material wastage, the company must follow the
regulation of maximum material utilization. This process is followed by how the raw
materials can be used with maximum benefits, and what process should be followed to utilize

those materials. Following this procedure it will surely help the company to reduce their
wastage.
Recycling Process:
Recycling the waste materials is another affective way to reduce the industrial
wastage. Hence, the company must follow this process to minimize their wastage. In order to
recycle the industrial hazards the industry must assign the responsibility of transferring,
managing and disposing the wastage materials to the waste Carriers. The registered carriers
will transfer the waste materials from the work place and manage those materials. In October
2015, the UK government introduced a 5p charge for single use plastic bags handed out by
large retailers in England.
Task 2:
In order to identify the workplace hazards, there are several techniques which
includes one to one interview, risk assessment survey and collecting feedback from the
employees of that industries (Haimes 2015). The above mentioned risk assessment
approaches works followed by initiating a survey, later on form the survey result it
determines the affected areas and resources. While conducting the risk identification process
it has several steps to follow which are described below:
Step 1:
Identify the hazards- The responsibility of any employer is to assess the risk factor and
hazards which are faced by their co-workers and employees. Thus, the assessment team needs
to conduct a risk assessment survey.
Step 2:

Analyse who is affected by the determined risk factor- After analysing the hazardous
factors the next step is to investigate who is being affected by the determined hazardous. In
order to get this information the employees must give a feedback to a survey which is
conducted by the industry.
Step 3:
Action against the determined risk/ hazards– followed by the above steps the next step is
to take a proper action against the raised problem. The action maybe suggested by the
employees as well as the employers.
Step 4:
Keeping the records of investigated factors- This is a process of keeping the records of all
the findings and the actions which are taken against those findings.
Step 5:
Review of the assessment process- This step is to justify the whole assessment process,
followed by some rules (Aven 2017) which are mentioned below:
1. Analyse whether the survey is conducted with a healthy practice, and it has not
harmed any employ or employer.
2. Make sure the feedback given by the workers were genuine.
3. Investigate whether this was conducted by following the legal rules.
4. Analyse if there is any risk remaining after the actions taken against the determined
problems.
Followed by the risk assessment process, now the employer’s proceed to control those
hazards. There are several steps in this process which are mentioned below:

a) Substitution: This step is nothing but substituting the traditional methods by new
advance process which will help to reduce or eliminate the hazardous factors from the
workplace.
b) Worker training: In order to reduce the workplace hazards the company must
conduct a training to educate the worker about their technologies and machines.
c) Isolation: Separating the hazards from the workplace is another way to restrict the
hazards from affecting the workers.
Personal Awareness:
It is necessary for the employees to be aware of the personal care whenever working
in a manufacturing industry. Thus, it is necessary to provide the safeguarding manual to
the workers and instruct them to follow the manual strictly in order to avoid the industrial
risks (Manahan 2017).

Different risks such as electrocution, falls from the height, fall at the floor level, fire or
explosion, entanglement, lifting operation and use of hand tools have been identified in this
report while managing different risks. The identified risks are evaluated through two different

aspects likelihood and impact. The risks are scaled from low to extreme. In order to maintain
the overall waste management plan it is mandatory to conduct a risk assessment plan. A risk
register needs to be prepared for identification, assessment and mitigation of the identified
risks.
Since, this hazard assessment form has asked about the possible hazards, its affects and
effected resources present in a workplace as well as from this assessment recommendation
from the employees has been received to reduce the mentioned hazards. After conducting the
above survey it has been observed that there is a significant rate of industrial wastage. In
order to reduce the wastage several control measures needs to be adopted by the
manufacturing company (Buică 2017), which are mentioned below:
1. Elimination:
This process stands for dismissing usage of harmful as well as less effective materials
and equipment from the manufacturing industry.
2. Maximum utilization of raw materials: It offers the technique of how the materials
should be used to utilize the maximum of it.
3. Isolation: In order to reduce the workplace hazards it is necessary to separate the
hazardous elements from work environment. It will help to protect the employees
from the effects of industrial hazards.
4. Safe guarding techniques: in order to maintain a safe and healthy environment it is
necessary to follow the safe-guarding instruction. It will help the employees to avoid
any human blunder.
Task 4:
1. While moving a wooden box the shoulder, feet and hips of the handler must be
moved rather than the back twisting.

2. While lifting any plastic container keeping the container near to the body of the
handler and the utilization foot at diagonal position is more effective.
3. At the time of lifting any heavy engine Ergonomic techniques are more effective.
Task 5:
After investigating the workplace hazards it has been observed that there generally
several types of hazardous element is present in the work environment some of which are
bio-degradable, non-biodegradable and some of are highly flammable. According to the
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulation (COSHH) they needs to be stored
using different techniques (Muchiri 2015), which are described below:
 In case of bio-degradable, non-biodegradable hazards it is necessary to store those
elements separately. As the bio-degradable hazards will be send for processing and
the remaining elements will be stored in a separate place away from the workplace.
 In case of highly flammable elements it is essential to store those elements like
adhesive, oils, gases away from the workplace for the sake of a safe environment. As
these elements consists enough percentage of toxic, it is necessary to separate these
elements from the contact of ignition or fire.
Task 6:
 According to the wastage legislation policies of Wakefield College, to enhance the
electrical safety of the manufacturing industry, the company must opt for a safe circuit
designs and should always use high quality wires and equipment. Educating the
employees about the electrical safeguarding techniques is essential to avoid the
electrical blunders (Higgins 2017).

maintain mechanical safety in workplace it is necessary to follow the below
instructions:
1. Always follow the mechanical Safe-guarding instructions.
2. Educate the employees about the rotating equipment.
3. It is necessary to safeguard the body parts by using the safeguarding jackets.
