entering the Howietoun facility?............................................................................................1
2: What are the key environmental wastes put into water from the salmon smolt unit?........1
3: How has the water quality varied within the catchment and aquaculture facilities between
2014 and 2016 (see the data provided in the spreadsheet). Use graphs to show the and explain
these differences. Why do you think the levels vary with time and the location of the samples?

4: Comment on the biological results from the Fishery using the kick sample data from the
stream, the benthic data from the ponds and the plankton data from the ponds (see
spreadsheet). Do they change over time? Are there indications of any environmental impact?
You should calculate the BMWP scores for the kick sample results as they this will give you
an idea of the environmental quality. See BMWP information.............................................2
5: Based on the water quality results from the catchment and aquaculture facilities Do you
consider the quality of the water to be suitable for fish welfare and effective growth? Why?3
6: Explain if you think there will be any environmental issues as a result of the water quality
of the outputs from the aquaculture facilities?.......................................................................3
7: Using the information given about the SEPA discharge consent in the presentation,
comment on whether you think the Howietoun fish farms conform to environmental
regulatory standards................................................................................................................4
8: Are the discharge consent criteria, in your view, suitable for assessing the environmental
impacts of the fish farm? How would you improve on these?...............................................4
9: What measures would you recommend in order to improve environmental conditions at the
Howietoun fish farms?...........................................................................................................4
10: In your opinion, is Howietoun fish farm situated in an appropriate location for
aquaculture? Why?.................................................................................................................5

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
1: What are the main extrinsic environmental factors that affect water quality of water entering
the Howietoun facility?
With the analysis of data which is related with the Howietoun facility, there are some well
determined extrinsic environment factor are being taken which may affect the water quality is
based on the quality provide basic scientific information about water quality water parameter and
ecologically which is show relevance toxicological threshold value which is helpful to protect the
specific. The data show a number of factor which include sedimentation, runoff, erosion,
dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, decay organic material, pesticides, toxic and hazardous
substance, oil, grease and other chemical, detergents and so on are extrinsic factor which may
affect the water quality (Adeboye and et. al., 2017).
2: What are the key environmental wastes put into water from the salmon smolt unit?
Salmon farming is defined as the wreaking ruin and marine ecosystem which is through the
pollution, parasite and the high fish mortality rate which can cause damage of pond or the aspect
of fishery. As per this, the wide assessment is identified which is about the global salmon
farming industry which has been found. Moreover, the sheer quantity of wild fish in the salmon
is also going to be used with the matter of concern. Usually, there are three type of waste which
is include blood water and brine from the drained, water discharge from the washing and scrap of
flesh, blood and soluble.
3: How has the water quality varied within the catchment and aquaculture facilities between
2014 and 2016 (see the data provided in the spreadsheet). Use graphs to show the and
explain these differences. Why do you think the levels vary with time and the location of
the samples?
While analysing the data that us related with the water quality among catchment and aquaculture
shows that the nitrate, ammonia, phosphate and alkalinity is minimum during the 2014 and in
2016 the chemical factor are enhanced. So, the major reason of varying water quality from the
2014 and 2016 is due to increase chemical in the water which may turn the nature of water in
