This professional project explores the growing significance of water as a source of renewable energy for generating and supplying electricity to the world. It discusses the contribution of water in promoting sustainability and the increasing share of hydro-energy among all other sources of renewable energy. The project includes a literature review of three peer-reviewed articles on renewable energy sources, hydropower, and sustainable energy. The secondary data is obtained from the European Commission on Renewable Energy Statistics.

1. Field of research
“Growing significance of water as a source of renewable energy for generating and
supplying electricity to the world”
Electrical engineering is a course of study revolving around the application of electronics,
electricity generation and electromagnetism. Hence, a study on the renewable sources of energy
and increasing significance of water as a source of renewable energy for generating electricity
and supplying to the world will be perfectly aligned with the discipline of the subject.
2. Source of secondary data
Secondary data on the renewable sources of energy is available in many official websites.
Among those, the website by European Commission on Renewable Energy Statistics will be
consulted primarily for the data. The link to the website (Ec.europa.eu, 2018) is provided below.

5. Summary of the references
The keywords generated many relevant literatures on Google Scholar. Among those, three peer-
reviewed articles are chosen for literature review and further research. The summary of those
three articles are as follows.
Aghaei & Alizadeh (2013) showed in their paper the growing importance of renewable
energy sources and how the smart electricity grid can deal with the demand responses. Zarfl et al.
(2015) addressed the great increase in the demand for hydropower across the world and rise in
the dam construction to cater to the rising demand for hydropower in their paper on hydro-
energy. Lastly, Chu & Majumdar (2012) focused on the sustainable energy and its opportunities
and challenges.
