INTRODUCTION
Aboriginal Australians are the first people who have lived on the continent for over
50000 years. This report is based on the influence of western system and structure on Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander people with community services (Van der Walt, 2019). The discussion
related to the main factors that support the statement. There are some resources that are required
to influence the decision making, communication, and participation of these people. The
feedback of these people have impact on improvement of cultural safety strategies. The
opportunities available are analysed that so that the programs can be delivered effectively. The
ramifications of past and lived trauma on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and its
impact is also analysed. The influence and changing practices in Australia and their positive and
negative impact is discussed in this report.
MAIN BODY
a. Factors in relation to “Western systems and structures influence the engagement of Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander people with community services”
There are efforts that are done by the community so that they are able to engage the
Aboriginal and Torres Strait island people. There factors that must be considered are as follows:
1. Social connectedness and sense of belonging: These people must be provided social
connectedness so that they are able top engage in services and stop facing the issues. If
they will feel sense of belongingness then these people will get indulged in community
services.
2. Strong Community governance: If there will be strong governance followed by the
community then they will be able to engage the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
people. They will work on solving all the problems and risks that are faced by them
(Rahimi, Sharifzadeh and Feng, 2020).
3. Separation from culture and identity issues: The cultural changes are seen by these
people and that also cause problem for them to participate in community services.
4. Physical health problems: these people are facing issue of heath and the community
services must consider it.

b. List four methods or resources that could be used for services and programs to increase
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s decision-making, communication, and
participation.
It is important to take proper care of these people and involve them at each and every
level. The services and programmes must be designed in proper manner so that they are able to
communicate effectively. It is seen that they are involved in decision-making so that they are
able to participate. The methods that can be used are as follows:
 Use of effective communication helps the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to
get engaged in the community.
 They must be told about each and every point so that right decision is taken. Involving
them helps to enhance their participation.
 Use of right language will assist these people to become part of these services.
 They must be given clear instructions so that they are able to involve them in services.
c. How can Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people’s feedback be used in ongoing
improvement of cultural safety strategies
It is important to take feedback of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people so that
they are able to improve cultural safety strategies. They will share their real feedback and
personal improvement so that they are able to get the cultural safety that they require. The
improvements are in the hand of these people so that they are able make improvements (Otto and
et.al., 2018). They know about their cultural needs and work in such a manner that they are able
to enhance the situation.
d. What are two (2) other opportunities to engage with and empower Indigenous Australians to
support the improvement and delivery of services and programs?
There is need to know about the opportunities that will help to engage and empower
Indigenous Australians to support the improvement and delivery of services and programs. These
are as follows:
Conduct meetings: There is need to conduct meetings with these people. In the meeting
discuss all the points of problems that are faced by them. It is an opportunity to understand the
problem and take necessary actions at the same time according to them.

Create cultural awareness program: It is another program that can be launched. It will
help them to know about the culture of the place and work in such a manner that these people
area to adopt in the culture.
e. Discuss the ramifications of both past and lived trauma on Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander people.
There is cumulative effect of the intergenerational and historical trauma. It has severely
reduced the capacity of these people and now they do not participate in the lives and
communities. It has lead to such a big disadvantage. They are facing the trauma that has included
intense fear or that people and cause them in a situation of helplessness (Osagiede and et.al.,
2020). The generations are facing the issue and living in the trauma. There are certain changes in
the policies so that they are able to overcome the situation.
f. How can unresolved trauma impact Indigenous Australians?
There is direct impact of the trauma on the children. It is observed that children who face
trauma are unable to understand their own feelings. They feel shame and are need of support and
better services. The people are stressed and facing issues that impact their mental health. The
major issues that are being observed are poor physical health, addiction, mental health problems,
incarceration, self harm, domestic violence, and suicide in Indigenous communities are directly
linked to experiences of trauma.
g. Explain how diversity practices and experiences impact on:
 Personal behaviour as they create discrimination and various difference are examined. All
the people are different from one another in respect to age, sexual-orientation, gender,
and race and ethnicity.
 Interpersonal relationships as it increases the mutual respect by fostering solidarity for
each others' struggles. There are better understanding and more respect seen among
people.
 Perception level enhances as they are able to understand and know about different culture
and get more accurate information.
 Social expectations of others by increasing the relations among them and are able to
understand better.

h. Discuss three influences and changing practices in Australia and how these impacts positively
and negatively on the diverse communities of contemporary Australian society
There are changes that are implemented in Australia. They are implementing various
changes so that the indigenous people are able to live effectively. They are coming with certain
cultural changes so that they are able to influence the people (Liang and et.al., 2018). The social
structure are also changed so that these people are able to survive in an effective manner. The
status given to these people is also enhancing. The positive aspect is that all these changes help
to engage more and more people. At the same time the negative aspect is that the Indigenous
Australians are unable to deal with the trauma.
CONCLUSION
It is concluded that there is need to understand these aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
people in order to engage them. This report has discussion related to factors and resources that
help to enhances them. Along with that there is disscusion related to trauma and its impact on the
people.
