INTRODUCTION
Cultural tourism can be defined as a type of tourism activity in which visitor’s essential
motivation is to discover and learn both tangible and non-tangible cultural attractions (Richards,
2018). This present study is based on tourists’ attractions in Westminster that are known for
attractive and specific memory of the great people and other reasons. Specifically, this study will
discuss reasons for which Westminster cathedral and Westminster Abbey are being known.
There are number of reasons that attract tourists towards Westminster. This place serves as a site
for royal coronations and burials and it is the main reason that make this place attractive.
LITERATURE REVIEW
History and memory behind Westminster cathedral
Before discussing tourist attractions of Westminster, it is important to discuss about this
area. In this regard, Tavinor, (2020) stated that it is the bustling government area near
Buckingham palace. Tourists come here in order to visit number of tourists’ attractions such as:
Churchill war rooms, Westminster Abbey, House of parliament, Westminster Cathedral,
Buckingham and others. On the other hand Westminster Cathedral is one of the best attraction. It
is the mother church of catholic church in England and Wales. One of the main characteristic of
this attraction is it is the largest church in the UK.
As per the view of O’Reilly, (2020) stated in regards to memory, it is found that it was
being built in the memory of Cardinal Wiseman. He was died in the year of 1865 and it was the
first archbishop of Westminster. It was then acquired by Wisemans’ successor but there were 2
false starts. After so many hurdles, this place was being opened in the year of 1903. Tourists
come here in the memory of Lord Jesus Christ. It is found from secondary data that this place is
dedicated to the most precious blood of Lord Jesus Christ.
History and memory behind Westminster Abbey
In regard to Westminster Abbey Sherlock, (2019) stated that it is known as collegiate
church of Saint Peter that is Gothic abbey large church in the city of London. One of the main
reasons of its attraction it is masterpiece of 13th-16th centuries. Other main reason and memory
behind this tourist attraction is: The Shrine of St Edward the confessor, the tombs of kings and
queens as well as countless memorials of great and famous. At this place, around 16 royal
weddings as well as numerous royal occasions have been set here since 1066.
