ANSWER
Ban Ki-moon faced many challenges diplomatic and political challenges. Human right
organizations targeted him for the issues which happened in Sri-lanka and other countries. UNO
is considered as the main institution for assuring Human rights when government of any state do
something wrong in same context. Another diplomatic challenge faced by Ban Ki-moon is
related to management in UNO. Increased remuneration to staff created problems in-front of
former Secretary-General Questions relating to irregularities came into limelight (Weiss and
Daws (Eds.), 2018). Although former head of UNO gave a statement the expatriates need more
money to live as they are not living in their native place but it was not considered a satisfactory
response by majority of the people.
Climate change has always remained top political issue in world politics. Ban Ki-moon
was also concerned about Climate change and Paris agreement was result of his efforts (Former
Secretary-General, 2020). But, major political changes in USA and UK created new challenges
in front of him. Donald Trump and Brexit were two most significant events of 2014 and they
were clear threat to Climate change issue. Unexpected political shifts across the globe was
happening because of inequality and injustice but when new people come in decision making
process then they always come with new priorities. Donald Trump was not a firm believer of
Climate change it was difficult to stop him from taking USA out of the Paris agreement. Brexit
was also going to bring uncertainity in Europe and this was also going to create some unknown
challenge to former SG. Ban Ki-moon was successful in managing these situations before he left
UN.
