Evaluation and analysis on problems that international businesses are facing
In regard to international businesses, it is found that after Covid-19 and changes in
environmental factors, businesses are facing number of problems. Employees’ turnover is one of
the main problems as companies are striving hard in retaining their skilled employees with them.
In regard to this Singh, (2019) stated that employees are considered as one of the most important
resource of companies and retaining them is one of the toughest challenges for managers.
Replacement cost of key employees involve huge turnover as companies require effective
retention policies for mitigating such problems. Employee retention can be known as a measure
and system that encourage employees for staying with business for the long run. When
employees do not stay with business then this problem is known as employees’ turnover and lack
of employee retention and this problem affect image of company to the great extent. On the basis
of some descriptive literature, it is found that companies are investing a lot in retaining their
skilled employees with them and for that they are providing number of perks to them. Some
main objectives of this literature include:
To identify causing factors of employees turnover problem and retention strategies
followed.
To identify current trends followed to retain skilled employees within businesses.
Causing factors of employees’ departure
In regard to this Alves, Dieguez and Conceição, (2019) stated that there are number of factors
that lead employees’ turnover. Some common reasons for which employees leave the
organisation include: better paying job outside, lack of safety at workplace, poor relations with
colleagues and managers, personal family problems, pursuing higher studies and poor
management at workplace. When employees leave due to personal reasons then it cannot be
considered as problem with business. When employees leave because of poor management and
other reasons associated with their current company then it is considered as one of the main
problem of company. In this type, it becomes important for employers to take measure and make
changes in their strategies. Job dissatisfaction, job security and lack of autonomy are some
common reasons of voluntary turnover. It is also believed that when employees leave then they
take values, culture and other things that can be tapped by other companies or competitors. It can
lead threats for companies. So, it is important for companies to pay attention to this problem and

take appropriate actions for solving this issue. It is also found that those companies that have an
effective working environment and put employees at first in everything then they are more likely
to increase staff retention rate and take competitive advantages.
There are number of factors that can be considered by companies in order to mitigate this main
problem. From descriptive literature, some effective staff retention strategies have been known
such as: workforce diversity, training, effective communication and implementation of better
management policies within business. In regard to an effective communication Gan and Yusof,
(2019) stated that when employees are being communicated about each and every detail related
to work then they find easier in performing their functions without committing errors. It
improves their performance. When employers involve employees in every discussion and
provide them detailed information in an effective and clear manner then it makes them feel
valued and they are more likely to stay with business for the long run. In addition, it is also found
that workforce diversity is one of the current and effective strategies that is being used by
companies for increasing staff retention and decreasing staff turnover problem. When employers
hire diverse workforce then employees tend to increase their knowledge. Employees with
different cultures and values posses different styles of performing functions and when they all
work together then it makes them able in bringing innovative ideas. They find easier in
completing group tasks and when they work in a group then it improves their relations. It is
found from above discussion then poor relations with colleagues are one of the main causing
factors of staff turnover problem. So, in this regard, it can be suggested to companies that they
should hire diverse employees and promote team working by which employees of different
culture can understand each other’s in an effective manner. Along with these, employers need to
provide training and also need to implement appropriate and effective policies related to health
and safety, discrimination and others. When employees are being provided training then they
find easier in completing their tasks and have knowledge regarding working with best ways. It
improves their productivity and increase self-esteem. Productive employees can take advantages
of internal opportunities and it can make them feel valued and motivated towards accomplishing
organisational goals. Overall, it can be said that improved relations, team working, training,
effective policies at place are some main factors that can help out employers in retaining their
talent with them.

Impact of digital technology related challenges on global retailers
It has been found from secondary data or literature that global retailers are facing number
of problems and challenges related to digital technology is one of them. In this regard Sarker and
et.al., (2019) stated that lack of expertise to lead digitization initiative is one of the main
problems. Employees do not have much knowledge regarding accessing new technologies and
making an effective use of software. There is no overarching strategy for digitization and
business partners are now unable to support advanced technologies due to lack of financial
resources. After covid-19, it has become important for retailers and companies to make use of
advanced technologies by which they can provide contactless services. But there is no doubt as
covid-19 pandemic has affected people and business of all over the world. It has affected global
economy to the great extent. People are facing problems in getting employment opportunities.
Due to poor economy and lack of financial resources, it has become difficult for businesses and
retailers like Wilko to make use of advanced technology in an effective manner. As it is already
known those employees do not have much knowledge regarding using technologies and again
due to poor financial resources, employers cannot provide training to them. It is leading number
of other problems like poor productivity, errors in production process and increasing security
risks.
Haque and Rahman, (2020) supported above view and stated that security and privacy
risks are main challenge, associated with digital technologies. Nowadays, it has become easier
for hacker to hack organisational systems and again one of the main reasons of it is: poor
knowledge among employees. As employees find difficulties in identifying the difference
between the right and wrong links and websites. Hackers send fake links on their systems and
employees click on them and hackers take personal as well as professional information of
organisation. They take undue advantages of these information and companies may face number
of other associated problems such as poor image, poor customers’ satisfaction and retention.
When hackers hack system and breach information then it affects organisations’ image. They
may find difficulties in attracting customers. Employees also do not prefer to work with those
companies that have poor image in the market. So, on the basis of this, it can be said that global
retailers need to take extra care of this and by providing training to all employees, they can
protect themselves against this big problem.
Document Page
Spremić, M. and Šimunic, A., 2018, contradicted and stated that as per the one of the
main issue that is associated with advanced and digital technology is poor promotion and
marketing issue. Retailers promote their products and services by making use of social media
platforms such as: Instagram, Face book and others. Customers are given an opportunity to share
their feelings and give review on the basis of their experience with products and services.
Sometimes customers give negative feedbacks. When new customers visit site of companies and
then they review all comments and when they see negative feedbacks, they change their buying
decision. They do not focus on positive feedbacks and rather this; they give importance to
negative feedbacks. So, on the basis of this, it can be said that digital technology has both
positive as well as negative impacts. It can change buying decision of customers that can
decrease sales of companies and can have negative impacts on image. Overall, it can be said that
companies need to make use of digital technologies in an effective and safe manner by which
they can solve all these problems.
Impact of internal communication challenges on retailers performance
Before discussing about impact of internal communication problem, it is important to
understand about this term. Internal communication is the function, responsible for effective
communication among participants within organisation. Within businesses, employees need to
exchange information by which they can perform their functions and when employees find
difficulties in exchanging information then it leads internal communicational problems.
According to the Lee and Li, (2020) a lack of feedback by employers too employees is one of the
main cause of internal communicational problem. Employers do not give feedbacks to
employees and employees cannot identify as whether their information has been read or reached
to their manager or not. It leads miscommunication and miscommunication is the main root
cause of other problems such as internal conflicts, poor productivity and poor customers’
experience. So, on the basis of this secondary data, it can be said that employers should provide
feedbacks and need to give revert and let their employees know as they have received
information. It can solve internal communicational problems.
Maneerutt, (2021) stated that a language difficulty is one of the main problems that
employees face within business. Global retailer like Wilko employs diverse workforce and local
employees resist as they find language problems. They find difficulties in making understand to
employees with other culture and it leads miscommunication. Employees of different cultures
Document Page
have different ways of performing functions; they have different perspectives and different
languages. Due to different cultures, values and languages, employees find difficulties in
exchanging information. It affects their performance and productivity. Poor performance and
productivity of employees affect poor customers’ experience. It is important for retailers to
provide training to all employees and make use of easier and accessible communicational modes.
Employees should be allowed to speak in one common English language. Training can also
increase knowledge of employees regarding different cultures, valued and languages and they
may find easier in communicating with each others in an effective manner. Verčič, (2019)
supported this view and stated that language barrier is one of the common internal
communicational problems that affect overall performance of businesses. Due to
miscommunication and lack of clear information, employees commit mistakes while performing
functions. It leads production related errors that affect quality of products and services. It can
increase cost of company as company has to revise their production system. When customers
receive poor quality of products and services then they are more likely to switch brand and it can
decrease sales of companies.
Turville, (2019) contradicted and said that as per them Email overload is one of the main
communicational problems. Big retailers have to deal with big data and on daily basis; they have
to interact with number of customers and business partners as well. On an average, an employee
receives 100-120 emails every day. Along with these, they have to attain calls, deal with their
colleagues. This often results in important information being forgotten, lost and deleted. It may
create number of other problems. When employees have too much of emails then it makes them
frustrated and it become difficult to manage big information and passing on to others. In this
context, it can be said that retailers can cut down on emails and rather this; they can use only 1-2
communicational modes. There are number of applications and software that can also solve such
internal communicational problems such as: Staff base. It gives companies an effective way to
avoid having to send mass emails and improving internal communication.
Recommendations for solving business problems
On the basis of above literature, it can be said that internal communication, staff turnover
and privacy issue, associated with digital technologies. The recommendations are effective
enough as it can provide the organization with effective and efficient performance so that the

organization will be able to perform better and achieve the efficiency in their day to day
operations. These recommendations are based on the problems and the issues that can be seen in
the international business that the company can face in the future. These suggestions are
effective enough that it can provide the benefit of effective performance and better understanding
of the international business. The recommendations are consisted with the various types of
strengths that can be beneficial for the organizations as it will be able to provide the effective
solution to the problem that the business is facing or can face in the future while operating in the
market.
In this context, it can be suggested to retailers that they should invest in training and
development programs. Training is one of the best ways of solving all these discussed problems.
Security, privacy and other problems that are associated with digital technology happen only
because of poor knowledge (Bougie and Sekaran, 2019). As like this, internal communicational
problem also leads because of poor knowledge among employees. By providing training
employers can increase knowledge of employees and they can be taught better ways of using
advanced technology and interacting with colleagues. Training can improve overall performance
of employees and they can make their companies able in taking competitive advantages. So, on
the basis of this, it can be said that employers can take number of advantages by providing
training to employees (Martinez and Hurtado, 2018).
Along with this, it can also be recommended to retailers that they should provide rewards
to their employees. Nowadays, employees prefer to work with those companies that provide
them financial and non-financial rewards along with basic pay. It motivates them and they are
more likely to stay with business. Some examples of financial and non-financial rewards by
which retailers can increase staff retention rate include: bonus, flexible working facilities,
medical insurance, office party and others (TAHIRI, KOVAÇI and SHABANI, 2018). Along
with this, employers can appreciate efforts of employees and can provide rewards them on the
basis of their performance. When employees are being appreciated and are being provided
rewards on the basis of their performance then it makes them feel valued. It motivates and
encourages them towards accomplishing goals and improving performance. It is beneficial for
both employees and employers. Motivated and satisfied employees are less likely to leave
organisation and they stay with business for the long run. It increases their trust and loyalty
Document Page
towards organisation. Overall, it can be said that rewards is one of the best way of solving staff
turnover problem that retailers are facing nowadays.
In addition, it can also be suggested to managers and employers that they should improve
their relations with their employees. When employees have improved relations with their
colleagues and managers then also they are less likely to leave organisation. For this purpose,
employers can promote team working. Team working can solve all big problems that retailers are
facing such as staff retention, digital technological problems and internal communicational
problems. When employees work in a team then they are more likely to interact with each
other’s that improve their relations with each other’s (Krishnamoorthi and Mathew, 2018). They
learn number of new things and they are more likely to understand values and cultures of each
other’s. It can solve language barrier that is one of the main internal communicational problems.
Along with this, employees can learn best ways to access advanced technologies. They can run
digital technologies in an effective manner and can protect themselves against security issues.
So, on the basis of this, it can be said that team working is the common way by which all
problems can be sort out with effectiveness (Verma and et.al., 2019).
Internal communication which must be required to have entire process within the
organization and it also includes about how the information is shared from up and down through
using various communication channels. This might be also important in order to achieve the
goals and shared within the various forms within the individual or team work (Burak, 2020).
Organization need to work with developing an open door policy through which this can create a
working environment and feel comfortable approaches for the manager in discussing any issues
or problems (Gustafsson, 2021). This could play the effective role through which Wilko can
achieve the set up goals and objective. Good manager should also know about their employee
and provide them accommodation which were made during when they are facing some issues.
Develop digital forms that can increase the working speed, this could include about the better
working digital technology through which the organization can work and company can bring
some new employee. The company that can still hold back while by providing anything and only
sees by employee until the hiring date.
This also help the organization for working towards the digital platform through which
organization can work for achieving their promotion activities through using online concepts. Be
open with the company goals and objective regularly, this could keep the employee to meet their
Document Page
sales staff and owner can thank them for their work hard at the end of year (Pesotskaya,
Selyutina and Egorova, 2019). This could also keep the organization for working with better
strategies and keep the digital platform to be used with some high estimation. Organization also
require working with internal and external stakeholder while having some strategies through
which they can easily keep their growth and development. Digital platform that can be used for
having the promotion and keep their customer attraction towards their products and services
(Siebold, 2021).
CONCLUSION
From the above report it had been concluded that, organization is facing huge issues or
challenges in present time and this mainly occur due to having the pandemic. While companies
that cannot work and keep their loss over the year. But, in present time various companies that
have taken the action towards achieving the goals and objectives. Along with this organization
mainly facing issues in internal communication, lack of technology and retaining employee. The
various issues of the employee turnover and the ineffective employee management can create the
problems for the organization in effectively performing and operating the business in the market.
This issues can be work with having some estimated task and employee should have the
knowledge about those things which might be important for the company. Impact over the
stakeholder towards the issues that have the negative attitudes and sometime this can lead them
for working fewer and do not keep their organization for working with strategies. Organization
need to keep the better and invest more towards those things which are lacking behind and also
try to ensure for working with some growth and development.
