CE 2.1 Project Information Name of the project:Wireless Patient Health Monitoring System Location of the project:[PLEASE FILL] Project Duration:[PLEASE FILL] Organization:[PLEASE FILL] Role and Designation during the time:Team Member CE 2.2 Project Background CE 2.2.1 Characteristics of the project It is not always feasible for a patient to keep track of their heartbeat at all times. A change in the heart beat count would help the doctors to identify that the patient is suffering from any kind of abnormality. This can be easily taken care if notified at the correct time. For this purpose the project has been developed to keep a track on the heartbeat of the patients at all times. The product to be developed should be light weight and small in size for the easy carrying of the device at all times. If at any point of time a change occurs in the heart beat of the patient a notification is instantly sent to the person in charge of the patient and the respective action can be taken up.
CE 2.2.2 Objectives developed for the project The “Wireless Patient Health Monitoring System” has been developed with the following objectives in mind: To make the device as small as possible To provide the patient with round the clock maintenance and monitoring of their heart beat. To provide a notification about the changes in the heart beat of the patient as soon as any abnormality of the heart beat count. CE 2.2.3 My area of work TheworkwhichIhadundertakenforthecompletionofthisprojectisforthe development of the hardware portion of the project. The hardware portion had been further divided up into two sections. The hardware portions then became the transmitter and the receiver of the module. I had taken up the work for the development of the transmitter section of the module. At the end of the project completion I had helped in the testing of the device and then documented the complete procedure for the submission at my university.
CE 2.2.4 Project Group Figure 1: The hierarchy of the project CE 2.2.5 My responsibilities throughout the project I was responsible for the development of the hardware module of the project. More specifically I had worked on the development of the transmitter section of the project. I had then conducted several tests on the project module to debug any abnormalities in the project module. I had also helped my team mates for the completion of the project on the correct timeline. I had then helped in the testing of the device to know the issues which were still there in the device. I had then compiled the writing of the project documentation for the completed project.

CE 2.3 Distinctive Activity CE 2.3.1 Comprehending the theory of the project I had implemented the transmission module of the hardware section of the device. The transmitter was to collect the data from different collectors of the project module and then convert it into digital values for further processing of the data. The digital data is then transferred with the help of zig bee module along with the μC. The receiver module need not be kept in close contact for the transferring of the data. The receiver has been designed in such a way so as to collect the data from the air and then to transfer them to the PC by using the serial communication COM port. The transmitter circuit consists of a heart beat monitoring sensor along with the help of LM358. The monitoring system has been developed with the help of a microcontroller 8051. The device works when the patient places the tip of his finger between the LED and the photo resistance receiver. The Analog voltage is further processed by the amplifier LM 358 which produces the digital pulses. A software is then used to count the number of heart beat in the signal and the result is displayed on the LCD. For the temperature sensor an LM 35 has been used in the device. The temperature is recorded in centigrade and provides more accurate result than a thermistor. For the viewing of information and messages form the device a LCD had been installed into the module of size 16 X 2. After all the information has been collected from the devices it needs to be transferred to the PC. This is done with the help of Zig Bee module. This has been used due to its low cost and low power consumption properties. CE 2.3.2 Engineering knowledge and skills applied in the project Once all the different components of the device were collected the device was now ready to be compiled. To follow a simple flow of the work and connection I had developed a block
diagram of the system. I had then proceeded to design separate block while following the diagram. I had then tested out each of the blocks that had been created so that they are working correctly. I had then collected the printed circuit boards (PCB) to make the core of the system. For the PCB I had used the Easily Applicable Graphical Layout Editor (EAGLE). There are steps that can be followed for the designing of the PCB. After the PCB has been created the different blocks are then soldered onto the board for the completion of the system. CE 2.3.3 Accomplishment and task performed I was responsible for the development of the transmitter module of the project that is to be responsible for the transmission of the information to be collected from the different components of the project. The temperature and the heart beat counts from the transmitter is sent to the PC with the help of the COM port. The LCD will be able to display the corresponding message based on the programming. The programming is to be embedded into the project module for the decision making procedures of the values received form the transmitters. I had connected all the different modules of the project to compile the complete project. After my work I had helped in the calibration of the receiver device that would work with the complete project. CE 2.3.4 Identified issues and their solutions 2.3.4.1 Issues The major issues which I had faced during the implementation of the project the transmission of the data from the devices and the transmitter modules to the receiver modules. The data was to be then sent to the online portal for the viewing of the data in a graphical format.
2.3.4.2 Solutions The problem was raised from the unavailability of the connection protocol of the Zig Bee module. The module was found to be missing when I was debugging the project. I had then consulted with my team mate who was responsible for the software module of the project and told him to implement the missing module into the system. CE 2.3.5 Plan to produce creative and innovative work I had provided with the idea of implementing multiple SMS receiver for a single module forthereceivingoftheemergencynotifications.Ihadfirstthoughtaboutonlythe implementation of the heartbeat sensor in the project. Later on with the help of my team mates I was also able to implement the temperature sensor on the device module. This implementation will drastically help the biomedical field. CE 2.3.6 Collaborative work I had collaborate with my teammates to produce the best quality project and provide the same as my project for my bachelor’s degree. I had also received help from my project supervisor of my university for the understanding of the different modules of the project and for the purpose of correct presentation of the project. I had initiated many of the project team meetings with my project supervisor for the discussion of the issues that were being faced by us during the implementation of the project.

CE 2.4 Project Review CE 2.4.1 Project Overview I had analysed the “Wireless Patient Health Monitoring System” for the implementation of the temperature and the heart beat form the patients with the help of GSM, SMS and ZigBee module. If any type of abnormality in the heart beat is detected then the same is notified to the patient’s guardian with the help of SMS system. The hardware was implemented successfully and the output and the results were studied. Several tests were conducted on the device module to discard any kind of issues which may have been overlooked during the project development process. CE 2.4.2 My contribution to work ForthedevelopmentoftheprojectIhadworkedondevelopingthehardware transmissionmoduleoftheproject.Thetransmittermodulecomprisedoftheelectronic components that were responsible for the transmission of the collected data from the patient’s body. I had then conducted several tests on the project module to find any bugs which may have occurred during the development of the project. In the end, I had compiled the project documentation for the submission in my university.
