1. Explanation of Transformational and Transactional Leadership Styles
i) Transformational Leadership: It is a popular style of leadership, in which a leader
eventually works with his or team for the core purpose of identification of required changes
and hence creating a proper vision for guiding the change through subsequent inspiration as
well as executing the change within tandem with the most committed members of a group
(Mittal and Dhar). Transformational leadership serves for enhancement of the motivation, job
performances and morale of their team members via a series of mechanisms. Such distinct
mechanisms involve connection of the sense of identity of the team member as well as self to
a project and even to the collective identity of the company. With the help of transformational
leadership style, the leader align his or her team members with different tasks, which can
enhance the performances. It is even vital to understand the major qualities of a
transformational leadership for bringing changes in the business.
ii) Transactional Leadership: The second style is transactional leadership. It is the
main part of leadership, which emphasizes on organization, supervision as well as proper
performance. A transactional leader promotes compliance by his or her followers via
punishments and rewards. With the involvement of rewards and punishment system, a
transactional leader has the core ability to keep their followers highly motivated for the short
term leadership (Deichmann and Stam). A transactional leader mainly pay attention towards
the work of the team members for the core purpose of finding deviations and faults. Such
distinct is highly effective for any type of emergency or crisis situations, since the projects
are required to be carried out in a specified manner. It is usually attributed to two significant
factors, which include reward system and management by exception.
