Short story-
Olivia, the girl born and brought up in Australia was proud of the culture and the country she
belonged to. She was strong-minded, confident and at the same time determined to work for her
family. She was from middle class family but her ambitions were high and indeed she studied
hard for her future. Throughout, her school journey she was intelligent and came first in the
class. But, Unfortunately she had one bad experience in her life, which completely changed and
turned her opinion regarding the people and the environment of the Australia. This happened few
years back, when she was working as an accountant for one of the Multinational company of
Australia. This was Olivia's first job, which she did not found easily, instead she worked hard
for it and because of this reason Olivia was way too excited to join new company, meet new
people, make new friends and start a new life. She was joining her dream company, but his
excitement totally went off On the very first day itself. When she joined office, something
unusual happened, and she started noticing that the office environment was making her feel a
little uncomfortable about her skin colour. Not only this She also started observing that the
people were not welcoming towards her as she thought they would be. They had a very ignorant
and egoistic approach towards her. The excitement to join new office and meet new people
totally went off as she was all alone the whole time she was in the office.
With the time passing, she came across a colleague who out of blues started making
funny and rude comments on her black colour, the culture and the place she comes from. She did
not reply to the comment initially as she herself was completely confident about her skin colour
and how she look. Later, on the same day she also heard some other comments in the canteen,
but refused to give them attention. But, slowly and gradually the funny and rude comments
started coming from many other employee. The employees in the office did not involve and talk
her with instead tried their best to aside her because of the complexion. The people in the office
started bulling her within no time and there were times people even refused to enter lift with her.
Rude attitude of employees towards her kept increasing with the time. She was all alone at the
time of eating lunch as well. She also started feeling that people are not being nice towards her as
they believe in racial supremacy. The comments were disheartening to her and it kept increasing
with time. There were times she cried in office as well. Discrimination was not only by the

with time. There were times she cried in office as well. Discrimination was not only by the
employees that worked with her but sometimes the managers, the senior staff and directors did
same with her and bullied her (Wingfield and Chavez, 2020). There was a time when her senior
managers embarrassed her by saying some harsh comments like the black people can't do single
thing properly etc. this make her think that the racial features of anyone has nothing to do with
the performance of the individual. But as she was new to the organization she was unable to put
his opinion in front of the seniors. She still did not lose hope after all the stupid comments as she
was the one with strong beliefs, values and always wanted to do something for her family and
her confidence and the belief of to change her life and earn more made her do job regardless of
what people were saying about her colour, features and the place she belongs too. There was a
time, she cried at nights and felt very sad. The colour suddenly started feeling so heavy to her
because of the constant unfair treatment. She even told the HR departments about the events that
were happening to her, and they were clear case of harassments but nobody took any serious step
and instead she was told to find new job if she is not able to cope with the environment. Not only
this she was also accused of filing the false complaints against the employees she is working
with. All the things in the new organization went against her and not even a single person helped
her.
An year passed with the same daily drama, but she kept working hard, day and night for
the growth of the organization, she also thought that one day her all the hard work and
determination will give her the benefits that she deserves. The fact that she was confident about
herself never made her to concentrate on unimportant things. But on the day of promotion, when
all the employees were being promoted to the higher positions. She was the only one left alone.
The day was exciting for all the new employees that recently join the company as all were
expecting their names in the list and same goes for Olivia who too expected her promotion and
her name in the list but unfortunately she did not get the promotion. Few days, later she started
noticing that the company give preference to the white people over the black people and the fact
that the hard work does not pay off ruined her mood completely. The company partiality towards
the white people made her annoyed as the whole year she has been ignoring all the comments.
But, neither the employees were good nor the company paid attention to her hard work. The
partiality was clearly visible. She was never concerned about her colour before she joined the
organization. She thought colour to be powerful, elegant and beautiful but suddenly everyone
started making her feel conscious. The unfair treatment with her on the constant basis became the
reason behind her consciousness. She was hot topic of the of all the employees only because of

her colour and this Constant partiality that she was facing from a year made her too curious to
know what other companies are doing and if employees in all the companies are facing same
discrimination issue.
She started researching about the different companies and the different circumstances of
different employees through the data available on different platforms and the different social
media sites. She found out there are many companies till today that discriminates between their
employees either on the basis of racial discrimination, gender discrimination or the age
discrimination etc. that even made her feel sad thinking that living in 21st century we still face
such issues. The various data and report also made her realize that nobody has right to
discriminate between things that they are born with. Their were no choices with the people when
they were born but today choices lies with the companies and there are different acts and rules-
regulations that have already defined that the no individual or institution has right to discriminate
between their employees as it is a criminal act. Discrimination has always been a very tragic
important issue and had been in the limelight from the generation. These issues have been faced
by the people from different backgrounds and till today many are facing these all over the world.
She also found out that there are lot of misconceptions about the black people like they don't
work much, they are slaves of the white people, they are born to serve white people and don't pay
much attention to the organization. The findings made her realize the mistakes that she is doing
from the last one year, listening all the stupid comments was the worst mismake that she did. She
did not even reply once to them and that encouraged them to make her feel more insecure,
embarrassing. She also talked with her parents regarding the different issues of discrimination
and the reality that she found today. Her parents encouraged to file appeal in the court for the
acts done by the company.
Initially she was afraid but after lot of research, all the findings and the guilt that she was
in, she decided to fight the case against the company in Anti-Disruption Act of 1977 which says
that it is totally unlawful to render any kind of discrimination in the organization and as well it is
very important to promote and provide equal opportunities to all the persons working in the
organization (Kirkinis and et.al., 2021). The appeal she filed in the case was because of the
things that she faced. Olivia has always been bullied in organization because of her colour,
culture and the background she belongs too. The employees were used to laugh and pull her leg
whenever they could and this type of incidents are covered in anti-disruption case of 1977.

Transparency of the Australian court made her to fight case with all her efforts and win case
against the company and the employees. The Australian court held liable to the company and all
the employees of the organization for the acts done by them and punished them with the
compensation that they are responsible to pay the aggrieved party.
REFLECTION-
Writing a story for the first time was totally new experience because I have never written any
stories before and never applied any technique of the prose module in the writing skills. These
experience of writing prompt me to see different writing skills and helped me to apply them
while writing. I am never confident about my writing skill but this kind of projects helps lot in
creating new ideas and visions. The enhancement of writing skill not only helps in projects but it
also helps writing in the exams as the technique of writing can be improved easily with such kind
of projects. Writing is mostly related with the original stories, content and the creativity that one
shows while writing.
The story that I choose was related with discrimination that the most people face in every
other situation of their life. Discrimination exist not only in Australia and America but also in
many countries. Living in 21st century, we should be ashamed for the acts done by us but rarely
we give attention to such things and most people that face discrimination can't do anything about
that problem because of unawareness about the rules and regulations countries provide and there
are people who know about it but can't do anything because of the problem of lack of confidence.
I have seen people near me facing same issue on regular basis but are not able to respond quickly
because of the same problem either they are unaware or they don't have confidence to reply. The
above story is not only related with the few people but every other person in the world today that
faces this issue at some point in their lives. The story further enhances my knowledge regarding
the anti disruption act if 1977 (Small and Pager, 2020).
This has also encouraged thinking skill of mine that enables me to write such a story in
less time. I wish I would have more time for enhancing my skill and writing efficiently The other
problem that I faced is related with finding the topic to write on, as they are many social issues
against the company and the employees. The Australian court held liable to the company and all
the employees of the organization for the acts done by them and punished them with the
compensation that they are responsible to pay the aggrieved party.

researching makes me realized my tilt towards the discrimination which has been highlighted
issues for the years.
The elements that has been included by learning the prose technique is the character,
theme, plot, setting and the style. I have introduced all the five things in order to create the
fictional story that is general in nature and topic that attracted me the most. This story also
helped me in learning different techniques and the style of writing. I will use this writing skill
knowledge in my further story and the exam, and I am looking forward for more such projects in
future to build right knowledge and the right skill.
