Title: Analysing the Factors behind Workplace Stress and Coping Mechanisms

Abstract
Workplace stress is quite common in this competitive world and majority of the people across
the world who is associated with a job or has been into that field have faced certain major or
minor work related stress. For example, the pressure of meeting a deadline is a stress that
generates from workplace. Short term stress although may not have any strong impact, the
prolonged stress sometimes become overwhelming for an individual affecting his mental and
physical health. Therefore, it is primarily necessary to understand the reasons of workplace
stress so that those issues can be addressed and mitigated in an effective manner. The
proposed research aims in identification of the negative impacts of workplace stress in human
health. The proposed research will further analyse the process in which those stress can be
managed so that the negative effects of the stress can be reduced. The proposal discusses the
methods, tools and techniques that will be used to complete this study. The proposal
documents the aims and objectives of the study and proposes the method for collection and
investigation of information related to the research.

Introduction
The undertaken study aims in identification and analysis of the actors that contributes
to workplace stress. The management of the workplace stress becomes integral as it can have
negative influence on the physical and emotional health of a person. The undertaken research
is relevant to area of my course which is organizational psychology. The research will be
analysing the factors that contributes to the organizational stress. Analysis of the same is a
necessity mainly because the effect on uncontrolled stress is quite severe and might result in
increase of health issues such as headache, stomach ache, disturbance in sleep and short
temper (Tetrick and Winslow 2015). The disappearance of the workplace stress is quite
difficult and therefore analysis of the main factors contributing to that stress becomes a
necessity.
The proposed research aims in investigation of the common problems that arises due
to workplace stress. The APA’s annual stress in America survey has listed that one of the
most significant source of stress is work as indicated by majority of the Americans. Through
this proposed research, the researcher aims in analysing the physical and emotional impact of
stress on a person (Beehr 2014). The research will be identifying the most common source of
work stress so that the impact of the same can be considerably reduced.
The proposed research will mainly envisage the factors that cumulatively contribute
to work related stress. Few off the most common factors behind the increase in work related
stress across the globe include low salaries and excessive work-loads (Chao et al. 2015).
Also, the less growth opportunity or advancement opportunity is another key reason behind
the increase in stress. The proposed study further aims in envisaging the impact or ill effect
of the uncontrolled stress, as it is quite a difficult task to completely eliminate work related

stress. In case a stress persist for a longer period of time, there is a high possibility of increase
in deterioration of the health and mental wellbeing.
This particular research is interesting to me mainly because it is significantly related
to my course work. I am pursing a course on organizational psychology and therefore, this
topic of research holds a significant importance to me. The problem of work place stress or
organizational stress seems to increase over the years and therefore, I found it necessary to
perform a detailed research in this topic (Ahmad et al. 2015). Also, this will help others in
coping up with the organizational stress by identifying the main causes of such stress in an
effective manner (Spence Laschinger and Nosko 2015). The proposed study will be important
to the practitioners as well, as it aims in easier identification of the common mechanism of
the office stress. Since office stress is very destructive for physical and sensitive responses it
becomes essential to investigate key causes of workplace stress. Prolonged workplace stress
can result in increase of stress and anxiety and therefore this issue is needed to be escalated in
an effective manner (Anthony‐McMann et al. 2017). Also, it is obligatory to identify key
strategies that can considerably help in managing and reducing the workplace stress. The
findings of the proposed study will further help in reducing the major cause of the stress that
will promote healthy livings. Thus, there are certain needs of conducting this particular
research as it will ascertain that the key issues and the factors related to organizational and
workplace stress are investigated and managed. Since this proposed research will further
analyse the factors that can help in reducing workplace stress the conduction of this particular
research is justified.
The literature search reveals various factors that contribute to organizational or
workplace stress. Very few of them include waged for long hours, having a heavy work
pressure or tight deadlines, not getting enough scope to perform or doing a boring work over
the years (Johnstone and Feeney 2015). The short term stress such as the pressure of meeting
