1 WORKPLACE STRESS Stress is caused at the workplace owing to the long hour of the work, work overload along with the time pressure. Poor physical work condition at the workplace also give rise to stress. Conflicting role and under promotion are vital factors that can give rise to workplace stress. There are managers who act in a critical manner and are demanding and this can pave the path for stress at the workplace (Michie 2002). Taking work home and high level of the responsibility in the workplace also produces stress within an organisation. The individuals in theworkplacehavetosufferfromstressbecausetheymayhavetobearadditional responsibilitieslikechildcareresponsibilityalongwithhousingproblems(Causesand management of stress at work). Occupational stress occurs within a multicultural workplace owing to lack of the correspondence between characteristics of a person and that of work environment. The aligning of the people characteristics with work environment can produce positive outcome both for the individual and the organization. There should be a fit between the desires of the worker and job in which they are engaged that can give rise to a positive environment at the workplace (Pasca and Wagner 2011). The cultural differences existing at the workplace can also result in stress. The people coming from various cultural groups have to go through occupational stress because they cannot fit into the culture that exist in the workplace. The discrimination taking place within the ambit of a multi-cultural environment can give result to stress in an organization (Occupational stress in the multicultural workplace). The work within the ambit of a health care setting can prove to be very stressful for an individual. There are cultural differences present that is an important cause of stress in the healthcare setting. Work stress reduces the work efficiency of an individual and an individual refuses to co-operate in the case of workplace stress (Lambert, Lambert and Yamase 2003). Enhancing the psychological tardiness can enable an individual with work-related stress. In the event of the demand which are placed on a person exceeding the available resources

In the event of the employees not being involved in the process of decision- making an employee may have to feel workplace stress. Bullying along with harassment within the workplace can also result in stress for an employee (Stevenson and Harper 2006). Conflicting priorities along with lack of the element of challenge in an organization can also compel an employee to face the adverse effect of workplace stress.
