participants invited for this workshop were twenty five MBA students. The workshop was

This part covered the features of emotionally intelligent leadership with its definition and
different types observed in the society.
Any leadership is defined as the process of interaction within the society. The process
of leadership demands knowledge of different situations and mental states of the
followers. This process is followed by awakening the mental state of the followers with
emotional attachment; and then to exploit the mental state of the followers to
accomplish certain fixed objectives, for which the team consisting of the leader and the
followers are working together. The leader should extract mental involvement of the
followers to focus on certain objective for best possible result by influencing the
followers.

This part covered the features of emotionally intelligent leadership with its definition and

specification of different mental state of the leader and their subsequent impact on the
followers and respective outcome of the performance.

of any leader with its subsequent impact on the assigned objective for the team by
putting them on the role of that leader. It was a group discussion of five groups
consisting five embers each Time was allotted for each group to express their feeling

Session 6- Time 1.30 PM to 2.30 PM- Competencies of Leaders
This session had highlighted on the prime eight competencies, which should be
featured in leaders.
1) Strategic leadership - Ability to fix suitable strategy to accomplish group objective
with team.
2) Leading capability building- Ability to create individual capabilities by
understanding the strategy; and finding the way to find suitable opportunity to
implement the same within the team.
3) Identifying political / stakeholder demarcation- Ability to ensure the demarcation
of stakeholders or political interference by clearly identifying the borders of these
interventions with suitable handling.
4) Leading change- Leader should identify the need of change as per work
requirement with subsequent ability to implement the same with his team.

his enhanced knowledge base.
After this discussion of basic competencies of any leader, the participants were asked to
identify their competencies of leadership by identifying the absent competencies within
themselves. This exercise was done through a verbal communication focusing on the
above issues between the participants and the consultant.
Session 7-Time 2.30PM to 3.00PM- Features of Emotionally Intelligent leader
This session highlighted specific qualities an EI Leader should possess with exhibiting
the same with specific features:
1) Self Awareness- By featuring realistic self assessment, projecting sense of
humor, and self confidence.
2) Self-Regulation- By featuring accountability, integrity, and compatibility with
change and crisis management.
3) Motivation- By featuring the self-derived force to accomplish objective; with
optimistic attitude, even, in the case of failure of organizational assurance.
4) Empathy- By featuring the abilities towards retention of human resource by
assessing their competencies followed by cultivation of their abilities; adequate
handling of cross-cultural sensitiveness; and providing services to the
stakeholders.
5) Social Skills- By featuring understandability to the need of change management
and effective implication of the same with persuasiveness; and proficiency in
building and retaining team.
Session 8- Time 3.00PM to 5.30PM- Group Discussion
This group discussion had featured 5 groups of 5 participants each. They have
discussed about one of the competencies of EL leaders with personification of one

and practical field is essential for any leader. This enhancement of knowledge
base makes the job easier for any leader to convince his team with application of
his enhanced knowledge base.

pampering self-interest by ignoring others’ health or welfare.
This session enables the participants to understand the demerits of exercising low
emotional intelligence leadership in individual or corporate perspective.

consultant to the participants
The workshop concluded with thanksgiving session by leaving emerging scope of future
discussion on the subject of emotional intelligence leadership about its role and
subsequent application in workplace.

Summary
Emotional intelligence is reckoned as present business management instrument to
manage workforce by team building. From the above workshop, I have learnt about
cultivating this leadership quality with its salient features. This workshop will help me in
my future workplace by finding the application of such leadership in practical aspect
from my superiors. The experience gained through this workshop can enable me to
understand the specific qualities of leadership with the context of specific segment
mentioned in emotionally intelligent leadership. The different interactive sessions helped
me to cultivate my self-assessment about this type of leadership by question-answer
session and group discussion happened during this workshop. The workshop not only
featured different aspects of leadership with special emphasis on emotionally intelligent
leadership; but also highlighted the bad impacts of low emotionally intelligent leadership
with specific negative features. Leadership is a trait of human being, which differentiates
individual from the mass. It is obvious that leaders must have some qualities, which can
enable them to lead a team. Emotionally intelligent leader is more close to the team due
to his qualities of empathies, fellow feeling and sharing of views with the team. These
leaders often come closer to the team with closer interaction to find the problems
beyond professional world; and this step makes the bonding stronger between the team
and the leader. The workshop featured special qualities of emotionally intelligent
leaders, which can be cultivated within me to prove my abilities as an effective team
leader. The workshop also projected the negative impacts of low emotional intelligence,
which can destroy any ideal working condition prevailing in any company. Any negative
emotional intelligent attitude of individual and corporate demoralizes the team, and thus
can hamper the ideal productivity of the company in long run. Hence, the learning from
this workshop teaches me to avoid such negative traits, and be a good team man
through exercise of proper emotionally intelligent leadership.
