PAUSE AND REFLECT1. Engaging with a real person and testing concept with a real personDesign thinking can be utilized for various types of works but it is the most effectivewithin discovery phase of a particular project such as present workshop. Engaging with a realperson in a face to face interview is essential to observe individuals and their thinking processdeeply. In the gift giving workshop, I conducted testing concept for people individually forgetting their beliefs and ideas related to present a gift to someone (Shavinina, pp.55, 2013).Observing the behaviour and communication manners of individuals with the environmentprovides a understanding about their thinking and feeling. It also helped in learning their needsand wants which assist to frame questions of a test or interview. Engaging directly with people in design thinking process is important for revealing agreat amount about the values they hold and their thinking. Sometimes, these values andthoughts are not apparent to individuals who hold them and effective interaction can help boththe interviewee and designer to determine thoughts and beliefs of each other (Mumford,Medeiros and Partlow, pp.23, 2015). The direction of prototype selected for conducting aninterview changes according to answers or responses of people. Design thinking process canfluctuate with the unexpected outcomes of interview and test. I focused on three main elementsof first stage of the interview known as Emphasize mode. These approaches were to observe, engage, watch and listen. Observe – It includes observation of users of design thinking process. Interviewer notices theresponse of people and these responses can change approach of the entire text or interview. Engage – It refers to the technique of interviewing which should be more like an interactionbetween interviewer and interviewee. I prepared various questions related to the test such aswhat can be the best gift according to you, how expensive a gift should be and so on, whichhelped me to interact with the people. Watch and listen – Watching interviewees and listening carefully helped me to understandindividual's thinking and go through their minds. The above approaches helped me to conduct interview successfully and understandingthinking process as well as knowledge of individuals in an effective way.
