INTRODUCTION
Any natural or man-made site, area or structure which got recognised as an outstanding
international importance and also which deserve the special protection. These sites are
nominated and designated by the World Heritage Convention passed by the “United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization” also known as UNESCO. In this essay,
history and types of heritage sites will be discuss, its creation, nomination and selection will get
discuss briefly. The social, cultural and economical advantages of heritage sites will get present
in the essay. Apart, from the advantages there are some bad impact of the world heritage site on
tourism which will also elaborate in the last of this essay.
MAIN BODY
Discuss the history and background of World Heritage Sites. Explain briefly how the idea of
Heritage sites started, the different types of heritage sites and the process of creation,
selection, and nomination of a heritage site.
Heritage is our legacy from the very initials and we are still living with it, and it also
provide us the obligation to give a chance of seeing the same ancient properties, monuments,
landscape park and many more structures to our next generation. As, these archaeological arts is
irreplaceable and by seen these heritage sites, it gives us an inspiration of life. These structures
are very ancient and old and still they have something which attracts the new and modern
generation to look the art and sculpture of an ancient times. There is an international organisation
names as “United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization also known as
UNESCO, it explore the world heritage sites and seeks to encourage its identification, protection
and preservation of cultural and natural heritage sites around the world. The UNESCO adopted
the treaty called “Convention Concerning the Protection of the world cultural and natural
heritage” in 1972 and its took effect in 1975(Brumann, 2018). The main aim of the UNESCO of
adopting the treaty is, to encourage the countries to be a part of the World Heritage Convention
and to ensure them to protect the natural and cultural heritage. It encourage the states to give the
name of their ancient properties which are within their territory to add it in the list of World
Heritage properties. It inspires the states to conserve their world heritage properties. UNESCO
not only encourage the states but, also it assist the states to in providing technical and
professional training to protect their sites.
There are three types of Sites; Cultural, Natural and Mixed. The cultural heritage sites
includes; thousands of historical buildings, archaeological sites and the sculpture or painting. The
another type of sites are natural which includes all the natural parks, landscape which evolves
through biological evolutionary process, there are some animal and plants which are in
endangered are sites of exceptional biodiversity. Mixed heritage sites consist the mixture of both
the sites i.e. of cultural and natural sites.
It is not an easy task to declared any structure as the world heritage site, the convention which
passed in 1972, set the World Heritage Committee, which has a function to oversees the fund of
heritage sites, it also identifying, preserving and promoting the heritage sites and the most
