INTRODUCTION
Business is an enterprise that undertake several activities or steps in order to promote
products and services to customer's so that they can be motivated to be part of the organization
and it can enjoy huge profitability and market share. There are range of functions that are
performed by the company which require sufficient skills that needs to be present in the
employees so that all task can be smoothly completed and end goals can be achieved in fruitful
manner. So, this report has covered crucial information related to business, function areas and
skills required by the employees to complete particular task in the firm.
MAIN BODY
Business
The term business is broadly associated with the different activities in commercial, industrial,
professional or economical areas carried out by organisations. The sole objective behind these
activities can be either to earn profits or if they are of not for profit nature then they work with
the objective of achievement of their business objectives.
Functional Areas
The term functional areas can be broadly defined as the different segregation of the areas
that a business is required to operate in. Each functional area has its own set of duties and
responsibilities that they have to comply with (Bandari, Mounika and Kovuru, 2017). The reason
behind such segregation of business duties is mainly done in order to keep the business functions
organised and foster cumulative achievement of different duties and functions.
There are a variety of functional areas in any given organisation based on their nature of
operation. Finance, Production, Human Resource, Marketing and Research and Development are
some of the most prominent functional areas where each of them have substantially different
duties and responsibilities.
Various Functional areas
Each functional area has a separate set of duties which can be detailed in following manner:
Marketing: Marketing function broadly relates to the promotional activities carried out in an
organisation where the products and services offered by the company is advertised accordingly.
This function basically focuses on the different mediums that an organisation can use to increase
the knowledge and awareness in public regarding their products and services. The marketing
department focuses on targeting the intended customers by using different tactics and strategies.

For this purpose, they deploy different mechanisms within the budget that is allocated to them by
the finance department of the organisation (Chen and Wang, 2017). The marketing strategies
thus developed help in achieving the ultimate objective of increasing the revenue of the
organisation.
Human Resource Management: HR management function basically revolves around the
management of employees and individuals that are associated with the organisation. The HR
department is responsible for the adequate and timely hiring of employees as well as
maintenance of proper work principles and practices amongst existing ones. It can also be easily
understood that the employee appraisals, growth, salaries etc. fall under the purview of HR i.e.
ensuring that all these attributes are met suitably (Kavtidze, 2021). Additionally, ensuring
motivated personnel, good public image regarding work culture, maintenance of healthy work
environment etc. are also some functions which employees have to maintain at any cost.
Customer Service: This can be identified as one of the most important functional unit in an
organisation where the employees are directly associated with the customers of the company
(Chen and Wang, 2017). The customer service department deals with the different facilities,
services and after sale services that an organization usually entitles for its employees. The
customer service department also focuses on creation of customer loyalty and goodwill so that
long term benefits can be reaped in and overall profit generation as well as expansion of the
products and services offered by the organization can be fostered.
Finance: The finance department is responsible for arranging sufficient fund from different
sources or alternative options so that capital requirements of the company can be easily fulfilled.
So, it plans, manage and focus on making optimum use of available capital or finance so that
company is able to delivered maximum value to customer's at minimum prices and enjoy huge
profitability. Thus, it ensures financial positioning of company in external market (Johnson,
Matthes and Friend, 2019.).
Research and Development: It is a department that is responsible for research and development
of new and innovative ideas that could be used by the firm to attract and retained range of
customer's within the organisation. So they provide insight knowledge of market, new idea or
products that can be used by the company to engage more customers so that it can earn huge
profitability.

Sales: This is another function that being completed by the businesses is selling of products and
services to range of customers so that it can earn revenue and enjoy huge market share. Sales
main function is to estimate total number of sales that company will generate in future
circumstances so that appropriate products and services can be arranged to meet the desired
objectives in the best possible manner (Gruzdev and et.al., 2018).
Types of skills required by employees
Skills necessary for Marketing personnel: Marketing personnel perform important function in
the organization as it promote products and services to user or customer's so that company can
earn high profit margin. So, the marketing personnel must needs to have good communication
and interpersonal skills so that it can easily share information related to products, promotion
offers and other information to customer's. Along with it, the marketing personnel must have
analytical and understanding skills so that it can easily analysis current trends or taste and
preferences of customer's (Pitan, 2017). Thus find alternative method that could be used to fulfil
customer's requirements.
Skills required for HR department: While, the human resources department people require skills
of decision-making so that they can take decision related to the people that needs to be selected
and eliminated for the filling the vacant position. It should also have good interpersonal skills so
that it can easily communicate and build relationship with employees that are working in the
company. Thereby motivate them to enhance their overall performance and productivity that can
be utilized for overall growth and development of firm (KAPOOR, 2021).
Skills important for Customer Service department: Patience, control over emotions and active
listening are three crucial skills that must be present in the people that are working in customer's
service department. As they need to handle, listen and resolve the problem or key issue that are
faced by the customer's patiently and effectively. In addition to this the customer's services must
have problem solving and decision-making ability so that it can quickly take decision and resolve
the issue face by customer's so that they are happy and satisfied.
Skills necessary for Finance employees: The first and foremost skills that has to be present in
the finance employees is better command on numerical or calculation. At the same time it is able
to have capabilities to effectively manage the finance of company so it can be utilized in most
effective manner. Moreover, it must have technology skills so that it can easily perform all
calculation in shorter time frame with use of advance technology (Bothma, 2018). Decision-

making is also important skills as it helps finance employees to take decision related to the
source from which capital need to be raised and the way it must be utilized so that particular
outcome can be achieved.
Skills in Research and Development personnel: Research and development personnel require
research skills so that it can easily research or conduct market survey in order to identify the
current trend. Thus, find innovative idea that can be used by the firm to gain competitive
advantages in external environment. Along with it, the research and development personnel must
have thinking and reasoning skills so that it can effective thing, research and developed better
ideas that can be used by firm (Lee and Lee, 2020). Research and development personnel also
must have good time management skills so that it can timely complete its task and lead growth of
enterprise.
Skills required by Sales employees: Sales manager needs to have social media skills so that it
can make use of platform such as facebook, twitter and instragram to inform and attract
customer's within organisation. Product knowledge is also essential skills that needs to be
developed by sales employees so that it can easily inform people about the products, its qualities
and key features (Xu and et.al, 2017). It must also have prospective skills so that it can attract
more and more potential candidate to become customer's of the firm so that its sales volume and
profitability can be increased to maximum extend.
CONCLUSION
From the above report there are several key information that can be summarized such as
business performed a range of function starting from producing resources to enhancing overall
sales of the firm. For examples: human, finance, sales and other are different functions that are
simultaneously performed in the organization. Furthermore, it can be stated that there are range
of skills that must be present in the different personnel that is sales, marketing and finance so that
all task can be completed in more appropriate and better manner. Therefore, company through
coordinating all activities and set of procedure is able to accomplished its goals.
