INTRODUCTION
For the purpose of writing an academic report, it is important to learn several aspects that
is beneficial and completes the report properly. It is an important aspect for the student to learn
several things for writing the report. They need to understand the different sources of academy
that is how they can use learning materials while they learn in their higher education. Moreover,
it is also important to understand the reliability and relevance of the source used for making the
report so that student can get marks properly and favorably. In the report, two reading strategies
will be identified such as scanning or skimming (Kim and Olson, 2020). It will also cover three
different note taking methods that can be used by the student while learning skills or knowledge.
TASK
Appropriate key information sources.
In academic studies, there is a requirement to access different information sources and
collect information to improve knowledge, understanding and build opinions about diverse topics
and subjects. There are different information sources that student can use for their studies and
these can be:
Libraries: It is a great source of broad range of information and publications. As well as
a book selection, libraries will keep magazines, journals, newspapers and many more.
They may also have solutions to access electronic reading materials. Libraries can be
found in any place and student can found it in their college which has more specialized
books and reading material which is related to their subject. It will be a great source for
me to gain knowledge for the assignment of Unit 6. I can find library in my college as
well. Or, my tutors will help me out and recommend libraries where I can find books to
access knowledge.
Electronic resources: E-resources may involve anything from audio, video, blogs,
websites to books and electronic journals. Several information sources are available on
the internet which are free to access but may also require payment so that student can use
them properly (Perez, Gregory and Baker, 2022). If student access these kind of resources
for their subjects and courses through the course provider or college, they may find that
student can have free access to such kind of journals and books. In order to complete the
Unit 6, I will ask my tutors or classmates which bloggers or videos I can watch to learn
concepts.
Evaluation of sources of information
It has been evaluated that libraries provide the history and are safer place to access
knowledge, while one drawback is that it has fixed hours to gain knowledge. In electronic
resources, it helps in getting independent learning, whereas it increases distance in social
interaction. Therefore, I will try to use electronic resources for unit 6 as I will able to gain
knowledge anytime and find more choices to learn.

Reading strategies
Reading from a different sources and acknowledging and organising what the student
have read can be a overwhelming activity. There are a broad range of reading strategies that can
be used by students:
Scanning: Scanning a text signifies seeking for main words in the index or contents,
main body of the text, headings or sub headings.
Skimming: Such kind of reading covers sub-headings, headings, summaries, abstracts
and so on and the prior sentences of paragraph to look what they are about (Zuckerman,
2019). I can try to look at diagrams, examples or tables. It will help me in getting certain
information and solutions to the certain questions when I will be going through unit 6.
Evaluation of reading strategies
It has been evaluated that scanning can provide quick reproduction with preservation of
original, while the downside is that scanning can create copies of slide which can develop
confusion. On other side, skimming can help in locating information in quick way and ensuring
the use of time wisely (Ávila-Cabrera and Esteban, 2021). The downside is that it needs
concentration and takes long time to read a single sentence. I will use scanning option in reading
unit 6. When I will learn Unit 6, I will use “find” function to search for the main words and
phrases. It will help me quick accessing the text or part of the text which is reliable for my study.
Notes taking method
It is important for the students to make notes from the reading lectures and even lessons.
They also need to make notes from audio or video that they are using for their learning and
studies (Shepherd and Beswetherick, 2018). The main purpose of using notes is to reduce the
material that the students use in reading which signifies that the student have to take information
then convert it into a summary and shorten it.
The following describes different types of note taking methods:
Listing: It is a great method that I can use in learning unit 6. I will simply make list of
the important points which might be in sentences or paragraphs as well. I have evaluated
that listing helps in making choices and decisions related to topics, while it creates
arguments against it (Wickam, 2018).
Outlining: It utilizes the key points as heading then convert into sub-headings, mainly
indented or even numbered. The student can also add further details to each and every
point, if needed. It is evaluated that outlining will help me in writing faster, but on the
other side, it lacks mystery and fun.
Tables: It covers putting the information into tables with headings and columns. I have
also evaluated that tables leads me to have new formulas but, it also creates loss of
memorization skills.
By analyzing all the above note taking methods, I will use listing methods to make notes in
Unit 6 as it will me in making decisions while reading concepts.

A detailed and structure project plan:
Time-table for planning and completing the assessment will support to ensure that the student
have their written work ready by the deadline. The student should list all of the steps that they
are going to require to finish their assessment, from reading the assessment brief to create a first
draft through to deliver the final draft and submitting it for the purpose of marking. The student
can break the writing task into various parts. Then, they need to allocate appropriate time table
finishing each of such phases (Halstead, 2019). This is also important to review the submission
date for the task, then measure how many days and weeks the student have offered to finish and
submit me assessment on time. There are seven stages that need to be considered such as:
Examining the questions in assignment.
Researching, reading, along with no taking
Planning the answer.
First draft to be wrote.
Meeting with the teacher or module leader to have a talk on the assignment.
Editing and reviewing the draft as well as carrying out for further investigation, if needed.
Proof reading, along with formatting the final document.
Submitting
CONCLUSION
It has been concluded that while studying, the student is required to go through several
aspects which is necessary for them to get success. Reading strategies helps the student to have
short and simple way to understand the concepts and topics related to their studies. Information
sources supports in learning as it provides data and information associated to higher education.
With different information sources, the student can avail their information. Note-taking aids in
simplifying the learning and studying tasks as it saves time while enhancing the understanding to
topics.
