Introduction
AIM OF STUDY
This is a critical appraisal report aimed at evaluating the strengths
and weaknesses of two articles within the overall health practice
field. This report will be critically looking into the nature and design
of each of the two articles and examine the strengths and
weaknesses of each article. I will also look at the ethical
considerations in each of the research as per the National
Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (NSECHR). The
appraisal tools I will be relying on are the Critical Appraisal Skills
Program (CASP) Systematic Review Checklist for the Quantitative
Article and CASP Qualitative Checklist.

Critical Appraisal of Article 1;
TYPE OF STUDY OF THE ARTICLE
Decisions with regard to healthcare and health systems are often
made without sufficient reliable and timely evidence. In the past
years, medical health decisions were made based on the doctor and
health professionals experience (Kerry 2018). This negatively
impacts the optimal outcome of healthcare services. Tools such as
Evidence-Informed Decision-Making (EIDM) encourage the use of
evidence gathered from research to make decisions. The article is
aimed at measuring the competence of mid-level managers in two
Victorian hospitals applying EIDM in their roles. The assessment also
enabled the Hospitals assessed identify their strengths and
weaknesses based on how they faired in responding to the 12
assessment questions. Both hospitals recorded varying responses as
to how they employed the EIDM in their mid-level managerial roles.
This was informed by the rapid changes and reforms in the health
care systems which have resulted to the use of Evidence based
health care management concept so as to maximise effectiveness
and efficiency of service provision by healthcare organisations. The
research is Quantitative in nature as it has quantified the various
parameters into percentages and other statistical modes of data
presentation. Quantitative research mostly deals with acquisition of
numerical data and analysing it to understand and make relevant
changes to a particular system (
Quantitative Research: Definition,
Methods, Types and Examples | QuestionPro 2019). The methods
employed in data collection in the article included sending
invitations to Level IV managers in two hospitals in Victoria,
Australia to participate in the assessment.
