Database Management & Applications1
This was my 6th class this semester, I joined my class remotely. Creating dummy CSV data was very difficult for me. But I used the Random function in excel which was an easy one. Professor started the class by discussing how to import data in SQL. Before lab, he explains the importance of data deployment in SQL. I have learned that Database deployments are critical tasks that can affect negative performance in production.
SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) provides the Import Wizard task which you can use to copy
data from one data source to another. We can choose from a variety of source and destination data source
types, select tables to copy or specify our query to extract data, and save the work as an SSIS
But, in this session, I have created my data in CSV files because CSV (comma separated values) is one of the most popular formats for datasets. MS Excel can be used for the basic manipulation of data in CSV format. We often need to execute complex SQL queries on CSV files, which is not possible with MS Excel. In the lab, the professor taught us how to import data into an SQL database. Firstly, check whether there is any data available in the table or not. Secondly, import the CSV data into each table by checking the parent and child keys. Thirdly, we need to create new tables called temporary before moving the data to production tables. Fourthly, after validating temporary tables, we need to use the INSERT INTO function to move the columns from temporary to production tables. Fifthly, again validate the production tables and delete the temporary tables by using the DROP function. This is the process for importing data in SQL tables. When the professor was teaching I felt it’s a very easy one. But when I started importing data I felt it very confusing. It took more than 3 hours to complete my assignment.
Hope the next assignment will be easy
