EXECUTİVE SUMMARY

The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People takes a principle-based approach to personal and
interpersonal effectiveness . Rather than focusing on altering the outward manifestations of
your behavior and attitudes, it aims to adapt your inner core, character, and motives.
In the fields of personal growth, constructive communication, and positive interdependence,
the book The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People takes is a guide.
Covey does not claim to present a fast and miraculous procedure, but rather a genuine
change mechanism that, with long-term experience, may result in significant changes.
The principles of proactivity, self-control, and independence are addressed in Habits 1, 2, 3.
They show how to create the character that is required for personal success.
Habits 4, 5, and 6 show how to become interdependent and provide the keys to public
victory.
Habit 7 is about the continual renewal of the above, as well as the consistent and healthy
development of various aspects of one's life.

İNTRODUCTİON

Stephen Covey breaks new ground and goes against the grain of many authors of his day
when he writes "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People." They believe that in order to be
effective, an individual must highlight his personality, establish tactics, and create a fictitious
identity. That would allow you to get whatever you want from others and from life in the
short term.
The 7 habits of highly effective people .Stephen R. Covey's book was initially released in 1989
and is a business and self-help book. 1st Covey proposes a method for achieving goals that
involves aligning oneself with what he refers to as "true north" principles based on a
universal and timeless character ethic. Effectiveness, according to Covey, is a balance
between achieving desired results and caring for the process that delivers those results.
Covey defends himself against what he refers to as "the personality ethic," which he sees in
many modern self-help books. He promotes what he refers to as "the character ethic," which
entails matching one's values with supposedly universal and eternal ideals , Covey
distinguishes principles and values .

A.LANATİON OF THE 7 HABİTS

Habit 1 : " Be proactive "
Take full ownership of our lives. There are things we can control and things we can't control
in life. ONLY concentrate on things we have control over, such as how we respond to events
in our lives. We have complete power over how we feel and act, therefore feel and act in a
way that is helpful to our life , Being proactive is the first and most important habit of an
effective individual . Being always positive entails more than just taking the initiative: it also
entails accepting responsibilities for our lives . As a result, we don't blame our actions on
circumstances, but rather own them as part of a deliberate decision based on our beliefs.
Reactive people are motivated by their emotions and also driven by values ,Although
external factors can cause suffering, our inner character does not have to be harmed. What
matters the most is how we handle these situations. Reactive people concentrate their
attention on the aspects of their lives over which they have little influence, They accumulate
negative energy by blaming external causes for their victimization feelings. This, in essence,
empowers other forces to maintain dominance over them indefinitely.
Habit 2 : " begin in the end in mind
"Everything is made twice: first in our thoughts and again in the physical world. For anything
we undertake, we must be crystal clear on our desired outcome (job, relationship,
friendship, activity, etc.) Take action with our proactive mentality to accomplish our desired
result . We need to be completely conscious of our intentions and behaviors, As a result,
every day of our lives should lead to the overall vision we have for our lives. Knowing what is
most important to us allows us to live our lives in pursuit of it. The second habit entails
finding old scripts that are diverting us from our core values and replacing them with new
ones that are more in line with our core values . This ensures that as problems arise, we will
be able to face them head-on and with dignity because our ideals are well-defined.

4
Habit 3 : " put first things first "

Covey asks us to answer the following questions to begin this chapter:
What one thing should you do on a daily basis to better your personal life that you aren't
actually doing?
Similarly, what is one thing you might do to better your company or career? Whereas habit
one helps us to recognize that we are in control of our own lives, and habit two is dependent
on our ability to imagine and recognise our core values, habit three is the application of
these two habits. It emphasizes the use of individual will to exercise successful self-
management. Habit three is all about prioritizing our obligations and putting the most critical
ones first.
This entails honing the ability to say no to things that don't align with our values. To
efficiently control our time in accordance with habit three, we must take the following steps:
They must be driven by principles.
They must be conscience-directed, which means that they should allow us to organize our
lives around our core values.
Our main mission, which includes our principles and long-term goals, is defined by them.
They help us maintain a sense of equilibrium in our lives.
They are planned on a weekly basis, with regular adjustments as required.
Habit 4 : " think win -win "
Win/win, according to Covey, is a theory of human interaction rather than a strategy. It's a
mindset that looks for a win-win situation for everyone involved. This ensures that all deals
or solutions are beneficial to all sides, and everyone is happy with the result. Life must be
viewed as a collaborative effort rather than a struggle to represent this mentality.. As a
result, anything less than a win-win situation is incompatible with the pursuit of
interdependence, which is the most effective condition to be in.
Covey claims that in order to be a successful win-win leader, we must embrace five distinct
dimensions:
6
o Character: Behaving with honesty, maturity, and a "abundance mentality" (i.e., there is
enough of everything for all, and one person's success does not challenge your success)

o Relationships: Creating win-win agreements requires confidence. To maintain a high
degree of confidence, you must nourish your relationships.
o Agreements: This refers to the parties' agreement on the desired outcomes, rules, tools,
transparency, and consequences.
o Performance agreements that benefit both parties and supportive systems:
Developing a consistent, agreed-upon set of desired outcomes to assess success
within a framework that can promote a win-win mentality.
o Processes: All processes must allow for the emergence of win-win situations.
Habit 5 : " Seek first to understand , then to be understood "
If we want to strengthen our interpersonal interactions, Covey suggests that we must seek
to understand a circumstance before actually trying to make ourselfs understood. Although
we spend a lifetime learning to read, write, and speak, Covey claims that we don't spend
nearly as much time developing our listening skills.
If our values are powerful, we’ll want to interact and listen to others without making them
feel exploited. As a result, our character is how we convey and express what kind of person
we are. People will begin to trust and open up to us as a result of it. Many people listen with
the intention of responding, but the skilled listener listens with the intention of
understanding. This is referred to as empathic listening.
An empathic listener is able to enter the speaker's context. As a result, they see the world
from their own eyes and see situations in their own way. Empathic listening helps us to have
a better understanding of reality.
The next step is to make ourselves known until we believe we've learned the situation. This
calls for bravery. We can express our thoughts in harmony with our listener's paradigms and
expectations by applying what we’ve learned from empathic listening. Since we’ll be
speaking the same language as our audience, our thoughts will have more impact.

Habit 6 : " Synergize "
Which means to combine or work together in order to be more effective.

Synergy simply means : two heads are better than one .1+1 =3
It is a team-work , open mindedness and the adventure of finding new solutions to old
problems .
Synergize is a whole process and through that process people bring all their personal
experience and expertise on the table , together they can produce far better results , in fact
different ideas and beliefs open up our minds and fill us with knowledge that was previously
inaccessible . Difference should as a result be seen as strengths not weakness , because they
add zest to life.
Habit 7 : " Sharpen your saw "
Means preserving and enhancing the greater asset we have , it means having a balanced
program for self renewal in four areas in our life : Physical , Social , Emotional , mental and
spiritual
-Physical : beneficial eating , exercising and resting , which means to be more effective we
have to lead a healthy life by eating in healthy way , doing sports , and having enough sleep
-Social-emotional : making social and meaningful connections with others , friends , family
-Mental : learning , reading , writing , teaching
-Spiritual : spending peaceful time in nature , expanding spiritual self through meditation ,
music , art , prayer , selfless service to others
As we renew ourselves in each of the four areas we create growth and change in our lives ,
Sharpen the saw keep us fresh , we increase our capacity to produce and hundle the
challenges , without this renewal the body becomes weak , the mind-mechanical ,emotions
raw , the spirit insensitive and the person-selfish .
It is curcial to tend to each of these four areas , and also take breaks from them , if we don’t
we will burn ourselves out and become highly ineffective ,we nees to find our own balance
of taking action and taking breaks.
