17 Habits Part-2 and Part-3
Part 2 A
Covey, through his book, tries to convey the fact an individual must always start a
task by keeping an ending in mind. By this, he means that before proceeding to undertake any
specific task, an individual must have a clear image of the ending, or the end results, which
he or she plans on achieving (Covey, 1991). This is a highly beneficial idea to anybody, as
having a clear identification of the goal always helps in moving towards a proper direction
towards the completion of the task.
I wish to use this ideology in my personal life, by having a proper goal of what I want
to become in the future, based on the field of study, which I am currently pursuing. This is
because it is a comparatively long journey from where I stand today, and it is inevitable that I
will be facing situations where I would not be sure of what is right or wrong for me. In such
situations, it is important that I make decisions keeping my ultimate career goal in mind, to
analyze which action would be the most beneficial in getting me to where I intend to be. Also
having a clear idea of how I would like to end my graduation, with a target grade in mind,
would help to put efforts accordingly, and regulate my efforts in accordance with my current
scores.
Part 2 B
Every individual faces the challenge of effectively managing time to reach a desired
target within a stipulated time. It is true that the activities that we ought to do to keep a
perfect balance between our professional and personal lives, far exceed the time that we have
to serve those needs fully. Hence, there is the need for personal time management. The tactic,
which I use in this regard is listing the activities which I need to do in a given day, and
allocate the minimum time which I would be requiring to complete each of those activities,
followed by categorizing them as urgent or non-urgent, and also categorize them on their

importance. I tend to complete each of my urgent tasks within the minimum time allocated to
each of them, so that I have the maximum time to spend on my personal activities.

Part 3 A
Covey describes a win/win situation as being a situation arising out of specific actions
and decisions, which result in mutual benefits for both, or all of the parties involved in the
process.
Last year, while doing a group assignment, my friends and I were supposed to choose
from a range of topics for a marketing assignment. My friends chose a topic, which I was not
comfortable in, so I suggested that we choose a topic which all of us would be comfortable
in. However, they turned down the idea, and as a result, we scored poor marks, because I
faltered in the part, which I did in the assignment. Had we considered the win/win situation

and opted for a topic from which we all could have benefited, we could have scored more
marks in that assignment.
I strongly agree with the concept. This is because perceptions from person to person,
and the human nature tends to be ego centric while making decisions. This is why biases in
decisions can exist, if decisions are made from a singular perspective. Therefore, it is
important to consider mutual benefits, since values of other people are as important as my
personal values.
Part 3 B
The two personal goals for each of the four dimensions of renewal are as follows:
Physical Mental Social Spiritual
To stay fit and build a
strong physique.
To stay mentally
healthy and away from
depression.
To interact and spend
more time with family
and friends.
To pursue peace and
happiness.
To stay healthy and
avoid illnesses.
To convert anger into
motivation.
To let go of my
external shell, and be
more extroverted in
nature.
To be devoted towards
the mutual benefits of
everyone surrounding
me.
