1. Discuss three themes/potential implications of technology and/or artificial
intelligence (AI) you have found in the literature of your discipline.
Overview of three themes/potential implications:
For this task, I have selected the information technology sector and all my research will be
exploring this sector. The main aim is to study the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the
IT sector. For this purpose, I will be working on three key themes: 1) the impact of AI on
the sustainability of an IT company. 2) The ethical implications that are required to be
considered while making use of AI in the company. 3) The implication of using AI in the
IT industry on the employment opportunities created in the market. It is hereby declared
that my research would be based on the secondary research i.e., the literature articles
available in the reputed journals. In addition to this, I have streamlined the research to an
assistive feature of AI.
Talking about the first theme that is highlighting the sustainability impacts of AI on the
business, I would be focusing on the positive as well as negative impacts of AI on the
sustainability (Gherheș & Obrad, 2018). In modern day's companies are making use of AI
in benefiting society as well as the environment while keeping its bottom line on a better
position. I would be looking into how IT industries are making use of AI in cutting data
centre energy consumption and creating a flexible energy platform. Furthermore, I have
seen how AI can be used to store and manage the data. For the societal benefits, the IT
industries are making use of AI in resolving societal issues, such as poverty, hunger, child
mortality, HIV, environmental degradation, etc.
Talking about my second theme, it would be outlining the ethical implication of using AI.
The IT sector is using AI in carrying out various operations that ensure that ethical
standards are maintained in their modus operandi. These include optimising logistics,

composing art, conducting a mock drill, detecting fraud, providing machine intelligence,
and transforming the lives of workers and other stakeholders (Burton, et.al, 2017). AI in
business operations has resulted in better efficiency and high productivity. I have read
about various tech-giants and how they are using their AI technology in promoting their
services and expanding their business worldwide in a convenient way. These companies
comprise Facebook, IBM, Google, Microsoft, etc. The ethical implications of AI include
rising inequality, unemployment, humanitarian concerns, fraud and artificial stupidity,
racism, and personal security. All of these would be considered by me in completing the
task.
The third theme is concerning the employment implications of using AI. Many
organisations and IT experts have criticised AI technology of eating up millions of job
opportunities in the market creating worldwide poverty and unemployment issues.
However, it is just a half-truth (Fleming, 2019). AI has created numerous jobs also. All that
is required from the employees to update their skills. In this part, my focus would be on
major implications of introducing AI in the business on labour markets. I would be
researching on various policies that support and promote benefits to the workers and
employers and ultimately, society as a whole (Boyd & Holton, 2018).
My initial research question is:
What might be the ethical and employment implication and impacts on sustainability while
using AI in the IT sector?

Artificial Intelligence is considered as the future of primary, secondary, and tertiary sector. In other words,
it is considered as a major thing as of today. It has become a part of our mundane routine. Many research
works support the use of AI in business operations while some researchers criticise advanced technology
as it might have some downsides. The use of AI in the Information Technology sector has both positive as
well as negative implications, especially on employment, ethical culture, and sustainability of the business.
This task would try to determine and study those implication based on the secondary research and
literature available on both online and offline platform.

The first and foremost theme of this task is to understand the ethical implications of using
AI in the IT business. There are cases of misusing the AI for stealing information of the
clients and customers of other organisation. This has caused some serious losses to the
companies. In addition to this, there are some other issues as well, such as inequality in
society, employability issues, humanitarian concerns, fraud and artificial stupidity, racism,
and personal security. These are not all the concerns as the list is very exhaustive. With the
following article, I can understand and address ethical, moral, and philosophical challenges
associated with AI and their impacts on the customers, clients, employers, and
organisation’s productivity and profitability. The paper provides practical case studies and
knowledge to be used in the AI educator. In addition to this, it provides suggestions on how
to integrate AI ethics into a stand-alone general AI course.

One of the primary themes of this task is to understand the impact of AI on employment
and what social transformation it is causing to society. It has been seen that many concerns
have been raised by the NGOs and social groups towards the ill-effect of technology on
society. However, the industrialist is trying their best to frame the optimistic scenarios to
support automation. IT businesses are making use of AI in data management and storage
process, digital communication, technological innovation, and computation power, etc.
This paper is very useful for me to understand and critically evaluate the social and
economic transformation instigated by the use of AI in the business. In addition to this, it
helped me in understanding the socio-political and economic approach to technological
innovation. Furthermore, I would be able to evaluate the consequences of employment
restructuring caused by the usage of AI.

challenging task. This paper helps me in understanding the gap in incorporating changes in
supply chains and integrating the three key dimensions of the sustainability principle. In
addition to this, the paper would help in understanding the economic aspect of
sustainability while dealing with the high cost of the supply chain. Furthermore, the social
indicators for assessing strategic decisions is proposed in the article. Overall, the paper
could be very useful in understanding the social, environmental, and economic impact of
using AI in the business operation. In addition to this, the paper can also help in integrating
these three sustainability dimensions in designing and planning supply chain.

My topic is also aiming at exploring the impacts of using artificial intelligence on
employment in a global context. It has been noticed that AI technology is being criticised
by many field experts and researchers for reducing job opportunities and raising
unemployment and poverty. These are some downsides of using AI. This paper can be very
much useful in denying these accusations and supporting the use of AI in the business. This
journal article considers sociological and economic aspects of introducing AI. The article
argues based on the perspective of techno-optimists that automation has not consumed the
jobs completely. It says that an organisation should mould the application of AI creating
employment. The authors proposed the concept of bounded automation to demonstrate the
creation of a job by making use of artificial intelligence. It says that organisations are
required to cultivate and develop new skills among workers in order to ensure that
technology does not consume any job.
