Process map or flow chart
To make a process map I have selected the process of patient management in East Lancashire
hospital where A & E concept has been implemented and is the largest department where more
than 250 employee works.

Core steps and supporting processes
As it is clear we have selected patient management phase and on the basis of the process flow of
patient management here we have analyzed core steps and supporting processes. The whole
patient management steps require an average of three hours and 10 minutes.

A nurse prepares a patient by checking symptoms
An intern makesthe first examination and calls a supervisor if required.
Prepare test list to diagnose the patient. The whole process takes two hours in between
prescription of test and publication of result.
The patient who requires radiology exam has to follow conventional x-ray or CT-Scan.
If a case is complicated then medical team consult with other specialists.
Once all these processes complete, a report has been generated and discuss with a
supervisor.
Identification of key input and output data
The key input and output data for the patient management process is as follows:
Preparation of first symptoms report – This report has been prepared by a nurse after
examination of patient and record as input to suggest intern and intern make their report
to take a decision.
Lab test report- lab test report has been prepared on the basic checklist of the test by the
laboratory expert where they perform the test and prepare a report for them as an output.
A&E based examination report- This report has been prepared on the basis of doctor
decision if require and submit to the doctor for further examination.
Radiology report if necessary- Radiology report has been prepared on the basis of the
requirement if a doctor suggests about it.
Final report for prescription- final report requires discussing with doctors and supervisor
to make a decision.
The difference on the basis of structured and unstructured data
Structured Data Unstructured Data
Symptoms Report of Patient Nurse interacts with the patient and asks for
symptoms whatever a patient feel.
Patient Examination report while intern
check a patient
An informal conversation about what the
patient feels and prepare the rough record on
the patient form
Lab test report that is prepared on the basis
of doctor examination report and checklists
Rough record of tests whatever the lab experts
record roughly

LO2. BI functionality tools and technologies comparison
Decisions to be made in the business process
Making a decision for the business process is actually a process of development and analysis for
alternatives to make a more efficient decision. Here the decision has been made on the basis of
the problem that is faced by every department of health organization. So to better understand the
decision to made, it is classified into programmed and non-programmed decisions.
The programmed decision is that decision that repeats in the organization and can be solved
through optimizing the work process like applying the rules on activities. It is recorded that the
healthcare organization performs 90% of the programmed decision.
Non-programmed decisions are those decisions that made exceptionally under certain conditions.
These types of decisions involve much amount of ambiguity.
Meanwhile, all the decision is specific on the basis of the problem or as per requirement. So now
we have prepared some common principle to make a better decision and any staff can implement
these to overcome from the barriers.
Improve Knowledge- Lack of required knowledge with the problem can cause to make a
poor decision. So it is very important to make an improvement in knowledge in problem
domain to make an effective decision.
De bias Judgment- De-bias judgment consists of four steps. The first one understands
about the possibility of the existence of bias. The second one understands how it can
affect the decision process. The third one is analyzing the previous decision to determine
how it affects making a decision and the fourth one is acceptance of condition where it
could be minimized
Creativity- Creativity for a person can help to make original and novel decisions to solve
a problem. It is most important to make a decision and discovering the alternative for the
problem.
Surety about timing- Be sure that the time is correct to make a critical decision with
supervisors and other senior specialists.

Opportunities for intelligent systems
Business intelligence system required in almost every department of organization to make an
effective business decisions. Emergency department, finance department, inventory management
and creating a simple record all are required a best suited business intelligence system. Business
intelligence system provide a historial, existing and a complete view on business operation using
stored data into its warehouse. A business intelligence based application allow a user to easily
gather data from one or multiple sources and can create a bunch of information to make an

effective decision. From formatting a data to creation of complete report including all kinds of
graphical representation becomes easier for a user. Business Intelligence system capable a user to
make a multidimensional analysis. For example a user can drill within a patient management
record and extract a useful data to suppor the intern or a doctor and can make an anwer about
what is the date of admission and what was the initial symptoms. For a successful
implementation of a business intelligence system personal resource with basic how to skills is
required and a permanent training over on can make improvement in making an effective
decision.
(Chin and Cheng, 2008)
Required Features
It is required that a BI Software should have a feature of financial data analysis to make a
better financial decision by considering the budget management and tracking of inventory
It is also required that a software system should possess a feature to manage clinical
analytics to provide hospital to measure all core functions of the organization.
The BI Software system should be real-time analysis capability to monitor the
effectiveness and quality of operation that is performed different nurse, interns, and
doctors.
BI software should also havethe capability to improve the response rate of operation that
is performed in patient management.
A business intelligence software Looker can be use to make an effective improvement in
business decision process by having a little knowledge about any department. Looker is an
informative business software which allows an organic way to deals and manage investigation of
information to do a specific job. It offers a user friendly mobile enabled or browser enabled
online interface where a business user can take its advantage to make a business decision for
professional purposes. The users can gather and do needful to process a business on the go so
that the other department can get their answer as the way they have asked. Means this BI based
software can enable an organization to make use of complete information by choice in supportive
direction.
So as to accomplish higher gainfulness, organizations improve their tasks' effectiveness.
Administrators utilize BI software based solutions on the go tasks to process the activities in
more effective ways. A best process of use of human services interface framework at the
emergency clinic; this framework carefully connects the entire medical clinic

Applications of business intelligence
Prescient displaying and information representation are key parts in choosing the correct
medicinal services examination programming for your clinic or human services association. The
genuine incentive for social insurance originates by providing the method of decision for patient
investihation in detailed and well programmed way. Use of business intelligence enabled system
is a special kind of software for the department that needed improvement in executives efficiency
which empower departments like health and care and others to create an effective practice. Once
the implementation of business intelligence software will successful then it is very easy and ideal
for patient management. Means the healthcare organization can easily track the process of
treatment and lab test report and know what the reason behind delay for any work is. The other
application in patient management is it affect the patient wait time because patient treatment is
directly linked with the wait time of consultants and other hospital facilities.
(Villanovau.com, 2019)
Design of BI software to support the specific tasks like decision making, problem-solving and
etc. require sitemap of events and process that is done in a healthcare organization, needed to
mention within the software. The flow chart of BI software is as follows:
