Part 3A: Reflective Response
Question 1: What does covey mean by “Sharpen the saw”. Give an example from your own
experience and illustrate this concept?
According to the author Covey, a person has various habits in his daily lives and all the people
complete their tasks according to their capabilities and time. One of the most important habits
that a person must possess is to take care of the most valuable resource to accomplish all the
other tasks is to take care own self (Covey, 2017). Sharpening the saw here means the renewal of
own-self. The renewal of the four dimensions of own-self can make use more capable and
competent to carry out our daily works. Behaving proactively can be beneficial in sharpening the
body and mind. I believe that keeping good care of the body and mind is very important as with
healthy body and mind only a person can give his/her hundred per cent when we are unhealthy or
have any mental stress, our ability to work decreases by many times. Sharpening the mind and
the body relaxes the inner self which provides ultimate peace to the inner self. When one is
peaceful in his mind, he can think of more productive activities, and there can be a generation of
new ideas and innovations. Whereas if a person is physically and mentally broken; easy works
also take a lot of time and effort.
One day one of my friends was having a fever, and he was studying very hard to get good marks
in his test which was going to be held the next day. It is good to understand their responsibilities
and work hard to achieve the goals but not at the cost of one’s health. I advised him to visit a
doctor take medicine and rest and then start his studies again, but he said, it wastes time in doctor
and rest, he would not be able to complete his course. It is not worth to complete work like this.
Next day when the test got over, and the teacher announced the marks; my friend did not get

good marks because he could not study well as he had a fever. He could have scored good marks
if he and studies after taking some rest. With an exhausted body and mind, no one can achieve
their goals.

is rightly said that health is wealth. When a person is physically fit, he can do more work with
efficiency. The next is the spiritual dimension. The development of spiritual dimension leads to
the renewal of mind and inner peace. In the mental dimension, there is the development of skills

and abilities. The development of the mental dimension expands the area of knowledge. The last
dimension is the social and emotional dimension. As human is a social animal, there are various
