Introduction:
Coping with the parents, the study has aimed to provide some betterment strategies for
removing the stress as well as depression among parents.
Previous Studies:
The previous studies have been developed based on the mental disengagement of the parents
that can be creased while taking care of the child with development disabilities.
Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to introduce some physical health benefits for the parents whose
children are facing the development disabilities.
Method:
The research paper has been developed by using the primary information collected from the
286 numbers of parents. In case of investigating the data information has been analyzed using
the Wisconsin Longitudinal Study (WLS) population based investigation technique.
Participants/Setting: Participants have been selected form the Wisconsin high schools and in 4 stages
the survey has been conducted. The telephone interview has been conducted and the participants have

been selected randomly from the parents who have the child with development disability.
Design: In the particular research paper, the descriptive research design has been followed.
While designing the research paper, the survey framework has been developed based on the
four time point framework.
DV: In this paper aging parents of adult children with development disabilities is dependent
variable.
IV: In this paper, the independent variable is coping startegies.
Procedure: parents have been asked some questions through the telephone. Fir diagnose the
condition of the child, several questions regarding their situation have been asked to the
parents. The questions have been divided in different segments where based on the awareness
of the parents regarding their child’s condition. For the additional measures, mailed survey
technique has been adopted.

Level, trend, etc.:
The regression coefficients influenced effects towards assuming higher depression symptoms from high
levels of burden. It has also highlighted the distraction coping and disengagement coping.
It has been identified that use of s econdary engagement coping can create barrier that can bring
negative effect of burden on the parents’ depression symptoms.
Experimental Control? The distraction coping strategy shows similar pattern for father and
mothers , however, caregiver burden is more profound for mother.
Discussion: Effective coping is very important to deal with the caregiver burden for the parents.
The article has identified that the knowledge specific variables can significantly contribute in
generating the stress in the older adults. The parents are coping with the chronic stress while
raising the child with disability.
Limitations: The major limitation of this study is the samples are restrict to the Caucasian
participants. Due to some emotional influences, the measuring technique may get influenced. While
collecting the information from survey, convincing parents was the important limitation.
Implications: In case of dealing with the high stress active engagement of stressor can be

beneficial for reducing the depression among the parents. Distraction can also be considered as
the effective coping strategy that can help to avoid the negative effect in the long run.
Future Research: The future research can be developed based on the understanding of child
related burden changes in different circumstances of life.
Reflection

As per my understanding, the research paper can also been developed based on the problem focused
coping process. In which involving the parents in identifying the alternative solution can be beneficial for
parents to deal with the stress. Rather than choosing the accommodative strategies, engaging the parents
to identify the actual reason behind their stress, through engagement coping process better solution can be
generated. By continuing this, it can be said that in order to reduce the stress engagement coping can be
resilient initiative for the parents.
