Introduction
In this assignment, an analysis will be done over the various aspects of indigenous health and
cultural safety of the people of Australia. The various diseases rates will be analysed in order
to understand the health conditions of indigenous population of Australia.
Statistics of health of indigenous Australians
Indigenous health of Australians is a parameter to measure the health conditions of the
aboriginal people of the country. Indigenous population is only 3.3% of the total population
of the country; still their ratio of suffering from diseases is very high (infonet, 2020).
Analyses of some of the disease rate are as follows
Birth rate in indigenous population
The annual growth rate of aboriginal population of the country is 2.2%. The general growth
rate of Australian population is only 1.6%. The country is also worried about expanding
number of aboriginal population (spirit, Aboriginal population in Australia, 2020).
Death rate in indigenous population
Poor health conditions are responsible for a higher death rate of Aboriginal population of the
country. The death rate in indigenous population of Australia is 9.271 deaths per 1000 people
which are quite higher than normal death rate that is 7.3 per 1000 people (indexmundi, 2020).
Cancer rate in indigenous population
According to the statistics of Australian government, 2917 indigenous people died from
cancer in years 2012 to 2016. Indigenous Australian have only 48% chances to survive with
cancer whereas other Australians have 59% survival rate after having cancer (Australia,
2020).
Cardiovascular health of indigenous population
12% of total deaths in aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are caused by heart
diseases in 2017. They are 70% more likely to die from heart diseases as comparative from
the general population of Australia (Foundation, 2020).

diabetes symptoms including high sugar level. 10% of women were suffering from diabetes

stage renal disease) was seven times higher than normal population (infonet, 2020).
Respiratory health of indigenous population
In 2012-13, almost one third of Aboriginal and Torres Islanders People were reported
respiratory problems by Aboriginal and Torres Islanders people. In 2014-15, the number of
indigenous people was entered in hospital for COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary
Diseases) was five times more likely than normal population (infonet, 2020).

Many of the indigenous young people found in high stress level because of excessive use of
alcohol and drugs abuse as compare to the normal population of Australia. The dramatic
issues and trauma cases are keep on increasing in Aboriginal population. 30% of Aboriginal
people are suffering from mental distress whereas only 20% of non-indigenous reported
mental issues. 17% of indigenous population reported as Anxiety and 13% of indigenous
