Dandenong and district aborigines cooperative Limited has implemented various programs
in order to enhance the health outcome of indigenous Australians. The program which has been
selected for the present study is tackling indigenous health promotion and educational program.
In this the team is been engaged in developing various workshops who will provide the
education related to tobacco handling situations. The main aim of organising the workshop is to
raise awareness about the harm caused by tobacco among the indigenous people. The workshop
is been organized at community gatherings, carnivals, youth groups and event schools. There are
various topics on which education is been provided during the workshop like smoking during
pregnancy, The danger caused by shisha and e-cigars, the poison consisting in cigars and how
smoking has an adverse impact on the human body. The services are been kept free for the
people of Torres Strait island in Australia. They have been tailored to analyse the needs and
problems faced by the client group. These workshops are been implemented so that the health
outcome of indigenous people can be improved and no inequities among these people exists.
Specialist appointments are also been provided to help the community. They are promoting equal
treatment to Torres Strait island people. This can help them in reducing down the use of tobacco.
They have also made the fun engagement games and entertaining props so that the educational
services provided by the institute become more interesting. These props assists them in attracting
more indigenous Australians towards their workshops and stalls.

My role as the student nurse has the huge impact on promoting equity and access to health
care services for the aboriginals Torres Strait islander people. I will be engaged in making sure
that every indigenous Australian know about the services and programs been offered by our
institution. I will also be engaged in providing them with free workshop services whether they
are individual or group, so that they can be saved from the development of chronic disease
because of tobacco. My responsibility as the nurse is to provide education to indigenous people
of Australia about the ill effects of smoking and the adverse impact they can face because of
smoking tobacco. I will also ensure that fair services are been provided to them so that there
health outcome can be improved. This can also assist me in providing better care services and I
can be engaged in making better bond with people who are suffering because of smoking

The health promotion program is been made available to all Torres and Strait islanders who lives
in Southern metropolitan. The aim is to increase awareness related to harms caused by smoking
and consuming tobacco. My intended approach in the program will be holistic in nature, I will
make sure that safe care is been provided to all people who have developed chronic disease
