Critical Portfolio
Critical portfolio is nothing, however, a set of writings that helps in summarizing the
insights gained by the students from their assignments. There has been three research items
selected for the following critical portfolio and they are the book, an article and a chapter. It will
be helpful in bringing out the opinions and learning of the student as to how they have
understood by the learning they have been doing.
Chapter Five
Firstly, I would like to discuss related to my first research item and that is a chapter five
from a book. This chapter described the importance of doing the research work and what are
basically the headers that we need to cater while doing a particular research. This has proved to
be helpful while describing the exact thing that is required for creating any kind of research
paper. Secondly, it has also cleared my facts related to why we do research and it explained that
is all kinds of wrote up and assignments and research are done in order to produce new ideas and
fact and to do intensive research and add on new facts to it, while making it available for
everyone else. Itr has also informed from where to collect all the necessity information whether it
be library, electronic media, journals or newspapers (Ramlal and Augustin, 2019). The most
important part for any research proposal is to have a strong literature review which will
summarize the research activities that are going to be followed. It helps in having more focus,
since it has already underlined the requirements and what we are looking forward. The literature
review should include the introduction of the research paper and should also underpin various
kinds of citations of relevant papers, publications and authors. However, for the critical appraisal
of the papers that are to be investigated, requires approaches in a more systematic ways. Here,

the main requirement is to cover all the critical appraisals and also the quality of the paper. This
will becomes easier, if systematic headings are followed in a proper ways which will include the
design of the study and the assumption, data collection methods, findings, conclusions and the
strength and limitations of the study which should refelect the clarity, logic and the scope of the
study (Onstein et al 2019).
Article
The article is based on the virgin galactic which is the company that involves in the space
tourism. It is the first commercial spaceflight that has been listed in the stock exchange. In this
article, it has been stated that even though the company is making loss they are sure to bounce
back by making profits by the year 2021. This article has illustrated the importance of the
marketing strategies by Mr. Branson, owner of the Virgin Galactic. The company charges almost
US $250000 for a single trip to the suborbital space (Friel, M., 2019). They have seemed to offer
the cheap fare to their customers as compared to their competitors and also they provide sales
and customers wait for their sales to do the booking of their flights, which definitely shows high
demand. They have also shows that with their inability to meet their own targets that they had
set. However, they are coping up with their losses and they want to include the passenger flying
into the schedule and thereafter they have also decided to come up with new idea and getting
their offers diversified with various other offerings and facilities to be included for their
passengers. It has been noted that it is just the beginning of the space travels and therefore, a lot
more can be expected out of this. Just like when air travel started it was very less target market.
However, it grew up to be one of the largest commercial hubs and it is similarly expected out of
the space travels that un the near future they are expected to be as large and commercialized as

the air travel. However, there are many research that are expected to be in the field (Cater, C.,
2019).
Book
The book that we will be discussing about it The craft of Research. This book is
the second edition of their kind and therefore it meet the needs of all the researcher. This book is
helpful for all those in the researching field not only the experienced ones, however this book is
equally helpful for the fresher ones. The main aim that this book has is to guide the researcher in
crafting the report among various complexities in the organization. Secondly, this book help in
showing a way as how to read their drafts so that the researchers can read their drafts and can
recognize the loopholes and will be able to revise them properly. There are several points that are
required to be kept in mind which is the report is supposed to have stories and grammar, they are
supposed to have subjects and characters. The other principle is to properly read, diagnose and
even revise whatever written. This book has considered revising of the research report as the
immense necessity. There has been different levels of diagnoses that has also been suggested
under different situations like for emphasizing and for clarity. Lastly, this book has emphasized
over the morality of the researcher (Booth et al., n.d.)
