Introduction
Academic skills are made up of four skills which includes writing presentation and
referencing. Every college and institute used to work on developing the academic skills in order
to promote critical thinking and reflective practice of their students. Personal professional
development is used to help in order to manage their own learning and growth throughout their
career. It is also called as continuing professional development in which the institutes and other
universities are working in order to develop the professional skills in their students. Personal
development planning is the process of developing an action plan based on the awareness value
goals within the context of career in order to self development. It is also called an individual
development plan or personal enterprise plan (Al-Rashoud, 2018). This report has been discussed
about the concept of personal and professional development and the value of short term, medium
term and long term goals with respect to their personal examples. Lastly, the value of personal
development plans and constructive examples is discussed.

1 Explain the concept of personal and professional development
The personal and professional development helps the individual to manage their own
learning and growing skills throughout their career. These skills are helpful in order to learn and
develop their knowledge and ensure that they can work safely, legally and effectively. Personal
development means developing those skills in order to accomplish the results with respect to
their roll for life in general. It is helpful in order to improve their talent and potential within
outside the organization(Anderson and Valero, 2020). The personal skills help in understanding
what the individual needs to achieve and the different manners in which they can achieve it. It is
helpful for them to determine the strategies and get it managed with their budget.
Professional development means the way of developing oneself in order to understand the
entire rule of the job about what they have to do and how they can improve in order to overcome
with their loopholes. This helps in enhancing the necessary skills to carry out their roles in an
effective manner. It can be improved with the help of proper training by the organisation and the

skills can also be developed during the academic period of time(Beagon, 2018). It is important
for the individual to get concentrated during their study period so that they can develop their
skills and knowledge which will be helpful in adjusting in the professional world.
Effective professional and personal development helps in ensuring the knowledge and
understanding in any of the area where you want to be expertise as your career at the best
possible level. It is a way of acquisition of skills and knowledge for career advancement and also
includes an element of personal development which helps an individual to develop themselves in
the living environment (Chamberlain, 2017). There are several skills which needed to be
developed in personal and professional area:
Work life balance: it means something which must be balance by every Individual in
order to enjoy their life in a manner they want. It is the personal and professional
development essence of life which helps an individual to achieve something they are
targeted.
Limit time wasting activities and people: in order to get successful in one's life everyone
must invest their time at a proper place so that they can make sure that it truly reflects on
their priorities and not someone else. The individuals must be developing their
boundaries in order to devote their quality time to all those things which are high priority
with respect of people and activities.
Change the structure of life: when anyone is falling into a run and assume that their habits
are set in stone. It is necessary for them to look from a different view in order to change
what they are doing and make their life easier but trying to conduct all those activities
which are easy and do specialize in that in order to get success. It is important for the
individual to have patient personal and professional development is the long-term process
not a short-term.
2 explain and determine the value of short term goals with the help of three personal
examples.
Short term goals are such goals which help them to achieve the ultimate goal of an
individual. It helps in bridging the gap between where the one is at present and where the
individual wants to be in future. These goals must be accomplished within a short time frame not

determine other short term goals in their life. The quick fix belts in a relatively short
term time to determine the progress towards the goal. The clear feedbacks enable the
planning adjustment and make improvements to achieve their organisational goal.
It keeps the individual focused: the short term goals helps in achieving the long-term
targets which might seem and realistic but can be easy for the individual to focus on
them while getting it done through different steps of short term goals. Many successful
entrepreneurs use to set their short-term goals in order to achieve a million dollars
monthly as revenue from their products but never get to this point solely focus on the big
picture they always used to determine the short term goals and develop their strategies
with death respect(Purpura, Napoli and King, 2019). For example, developing daily
reading skills, exercise twice a week, developing the writing and speaking skills in daily
routine.
3 explain and discuss the value of medium term goals with at least three examples.
The medium term goals are the goals which are dependent on the activities with respect to
short term and long term goals. Short term goals can be achieved at present or within a lesser
period of time and longer term goals at the ultimate goals but the medium term goals have a
moderate value in order to determine the progress and evaluate whether they have to change their
plan adopt some other strategies in order to attain the ultimate goal. Best example of a medium

easily. A medium term goal is even which takes a bit longer period of time and could achieve the
goals in an effective manner (Tymms,2018). For example the one can set their medium term goal
with respect to their study and can target to achieve 70% more or higher to it in any of the
subjects. The students can also set their medium term goals with respect to their fitness
programs. It is not defined how long in medium term goals can be achieved it is totally
dependent upon the goals and the efforts which are made by the individual in order to achieve
their moderate term goals. The value of midterm goals is discussed below:
It helps in thinking about the schedule and management of risk. For example, There is a
long time between now and retirement so with respect to it as a medium term goal the
one must save their money in order to get satisfied with respect to the financial demands
in one's life.
It puts the goals in order to move as a second step and schedule a goal so that they can
achieve the long term targets in an easy way.
It is important because it helps in analysing the current strategies and determines whether
any changes are required to attain the ultimate goal in a longer period of time.
4 Describe and discuss the value of long term goals with examples
Long term goals are those goals which the individual wants to achieve in future. These goals
required planning and management of time as we cannot be achieved within a week or a year.
These goals take at least several years of time and skills in order to attain the ultimate goals.
Many times it requires many steps to complete a long-term goal. It is important to respect
aquaria as in the last working of life only these kinds of goals help them to think about the
education which will be helpful in order to achieve the ultimate in life. For example, graduating
from college to save money for retirement or having your own business might be a long term
goal in one's life. The long term goals are necessary for self improvement as it is something with
stripes for and helps the individual to focus on that path which will satisfy their future needs and
wants (Wagner and et. al., 2021). Some of the importance is discussed below:
It is important to determine the long term goals in one's life at the earliest age of maturity
so that the individual can determine and analyse the skills and knowledge which will be

the individual must focus in order to enhance their qualities which are holed by them and make
their dream and aspiration turn into reality. The personal development plan used to determine the
potential limits and invest their personal development which may harm the Talent possessed by
individuals. It helps in boosting the route of self confidence in order to add everything the
individual can accomplish with an appropriate amount of effort and strategies (Tymms, 2018).
For example the individual can set their goals in the early morning and take a few minutes of
your day in order to determine the strategies and have a potential planning of the day. The one
can also concentrate on the high value of activities which contributes in order to get success.
Importance of personal development
Many a times it is important to think about what the one wants to become in future.
