Communication denotes a process of enabling the exchange of information or
thoughts, with the aid of the spoken or written language (Newman, 2015). Effective
communication is a significant component of modern business organisations and forms the
core element of the various work functions both internally and externally. Communication is
often regarded as the blood of the organisation, as varied works and functions are dependent
upon efficient workplace communication, and therefore various techniques have been devised
to improvise the same. (Seyitoglu & Yuzbasioglu, 2015). One of the techniques that aid in the
enhancement of the communication at the workplace is learning how to write academic
essays. The essay will explore how academic essays aid and benefit in workplace
communications.
An effective academic essay refers to an essay that comprises of a thesis statement,
evidence supporting the thesis, presentation of the counter-arguments and eventually drawing
conclusions on the central thesis statement (Harvard University, 2018). The very first skill
that the academic essay writing requires is the generation of motive or the idea. The writer
must acquire himself or herself with the purpose of the writing and accordingly plan the
further activities and sources of research that may be reading and rereading literature,
observation of an object or behaviour, or performance of an experiment. Similarly, before
replying to a mail at the workplace or preparing a report, the managers must acquire
themselves with the basic elements of the communication channel, that is the purpose of the

argument is done by engagement into comprehensive research. It is significant to note that

organisation of the essay. Similarly, while communicating at the workplace, an individual
must research his or her subject well enough, in order to be able to convince the audience

evidence, third-party conversations, and the incidental evidence that may be gathered from
the external communication channels, to support the chief objective of the communication.
Thus, the common ground that is being shared between the academic essay writing and the
communication at the workplace is the reasonable and the organised research and

Similarly, at the workplace communications, the senior managers must engage the juniors
and the peers by involving techniques like questionnaire, feedbacks, and others. These ways,
the audiences feel part of the communication channel and provide value additions in the
objective of the communication. Moreover, the individuals must also engage in effective
external communication with the customers, stakeholders that will in return serve the loyal
base of customers and other stakeholders.

As per the discussions in the previous parts, it can be stated that academic essay
writing is comprised of a number of elements. These elements like the development of a
thesis statement, research on supportive arguments, counterarguments and finally the
conclusion together form a good academic essay. Similarly, an individual at the workplace
must combine the above-listed elements to communicate effectively and efficiently with
peers and other members. There have been presented a number of points of similarity in the
skill set for the academic essay writing and the communicating at the organisation. As a
result, the discussions in the previous parts enable to state rightly that the skills developed in
the academic essay writing are useful in the organisational communications as well. Thus, it
can be concluded that academic essay writing aids in workplace communications, both
external and internal.
