Developing a Game-Based Approach to Academic Integrity Awareness

This project details the design of a card game aimed at enhancing students' knowledge of academic integrity and plagiarism avoidance. The game involves students and a professor, using cards with questions about academic misconduct and ethical dilemmas. The objective is to educate students on the values of academic integrity, such as trust, fairness, and responsibility, and to promote honest learning behavior. The game design process involved developing analytical, innovative, and creative skills, as well as problem-solving and time management abilities. The project also emphasizes the importance of academic integrity for the university's reputation and the value of its degrees, referencing various academic sources on the topic.

Instructions for playing the game
BMP3003 Further Academic Skills
In the game, there will be two or more players. In
the players, there will be both students and teacher
who has the knowledge of academic integrity and
plagiarism. This is a game that is specially
designed for the students who are highly interested
in improving their knowledge regarding integrity
and plagiarism.
Aim of game
The main objective of the game is to enhance the
knowledge of the students regarding integrity and
plagiarism. In addition, it will also help in avoiding
the misconduct during school assignments and
exams.
Beginning of game
The person who is representing the professor has
10 cards of ethics. The cards have questions
regarding academic misconduct on one side and
the other side will having the answer of the
respective question.
Each and every student will have three cards in the
hand containing the letters A, B & C. Their
answers of each question will be represented by
their selection of the cards during the game.

that will help me in career growth

used to do brainstorming which is

In learning and education, academic integrity is one
of the crucial concepts that is followed by each and
every educational institution. The values which are
associated with the academic integrity are trust,
fairness, respect, responsibility, courage and more. In
order to maintain academic integrity, it is vital to
follow all these practices significantly. Additionally,
academic integrity is also imperative for positive
image of the university in the market place. It
enhances the value of degree in market and make a
distinct image of the educational institute among
students. In addition, it also allows students and
teachers to adopt creative practices and facilitate
innovation in an efficient manner (Bretag, 2016).

INSTRUCTIONS
• There are certain rules followed in each and every game. These rules give clarity to all the
participants and help in reaching at right and meaningful conclusion. For this purpose, the rules of
the current game are mentioned below:
• During the game, each and every student is required to stay quiet and calm. They do not need to
share the information with other players and follow all the instructions given by the judge. In
addition, they are required to keep their cards secret so that other players do not get the chance of
cheating.
• All the players are expected to play the game with integrity. They should avoid cheating and
inappropriate behavior in the game. According to the rules, the students who found involve in the
cheating will be terminated from the game immediately.
• Firstly, students are required to reveal their cards then the last decision will be taken by the
professor. Here, the decision of the professor will be the final decision and no student(player) can
go beyond that. In addition, all the students need to obey the instructions given by the professor.

• Dishonest and inappropriate learning behavior can also minimize through academic integrity. In addition, the brand image
of an institute affects the value of degree. Here, academic integrity significantly contributes in brand image of the
educational institute. If a college/university follows the practices of academic integrity, the value of degree of the particular
university get enhanced that is also valuable for the career of students. Additionally, academic integrity contribute towards
the reputation and also improved the societal well-being. In this regard, students and teachers both need to follow the
academic integrity practices. Here, students need to complete the assignment and project work in timely manner. Also,
teachers need to treat all the students equally (Bretag, 2018). In addition, they need to listen the query of students and
resolve it in an efficient manner. They are required to provide best possible solution to the students.
• Academic integrity make the students enable to develop new ideas, creativity and knowledge. According to the concept of
academic integrity taking credit of someone’s work is not appropriate. (Sefcik, Striepe and Yorke, 2019). The students who
follow the practices of academic integrity have the opportunity of growth and success in career in future period of time.

Skills used to produce the game
• I also developed innovative and creative skills during the game that will help me in career growth & success. To develop
the game, I used to do brainstorming which is important in order to develop creativity. However, I also faced several
obstacles during the game. Here, I learned how to deal with the obstacles in an efficient manner. This skill will help me in
dealing with different problems in future period of time. It enhanced my problem solving skills that will allow me in
dealing with future problems efficiently. Additionally, the game design also enhanced my time management skills as I need
to perform several activities at the same time. This skills will assist me in preparing proper schedule in future period of
time.
• I also used to do a lot of research so that I can add on some interesting aspects in game. It developed my research
capabilities through which will help me in collecting valuable information from respondents in order to meet with the
issues arise within organization. Research skills are important in order to collect appropriate information from different
respondents which will help in preparing suitable strategies for further betterment & enhancement.
