How to uphold academic integrity
It is necessary to uphold academic integrity so that in university student remain honest
with their work. Also, it shows fairness and responsibility of students. academic integrity means
putting values into practice and to remain honest with work that is been done at university.
Moreover, being fair to other, following convention of scholarship, etc. Thus, there are various
ways through which academic integrity can be uphold. They are as follows
The information that is being used must be proper and it should be accordingly to copyright and
privacy laws.
By acknowledging from information has been taken to make sure that it is authentic and reliable
source.
By not presenting other people as your own in any ways or means.
By conducting research in ethical way and also by following university guidelines and rules and
regulations to ensure that no unethical ways are being practiced in it.
To report in truthful way about work or research that is being done.
To act in ethical way with all professors and tutors of university.
Not to copy work of others
Thus, these are ways through which academic integrity can be maintained. It highly
helps students to work as per university guidelines and ensure that assignments made are in
ethical way.
How to avoid plagiarism
Plagiarism is an ethical issue which is mostly done by students in their academic
work. The text is copied from various sources and then included in assignment. The student
who has done plagiarism has committed theft. However, there are several ways by which
plagiarism can be avoided they are as follows
Cite source- it is necessary to cite source when alluding own idea. This is because citing citation
help in identifying that text is taken from authentic and reliable source. The citation done must
be with full author name, date, source, etc that is included in it.
Include quotation – it is most common way to avoid plagiarism. Here, quotes can be used within
text so that it shows work is of not yours. A direct quote should also cite the source so that
readers know who the quote is from.
Paraphrase- this means to writing from source in own words. But here meaning of sentence is
not changed. There is need to properly do paraphrasing so that it does not lead to plagiarism.
But do not use similar words too much. Besides that, it is necessary to include citation of source
in it.
Present own idea- it is easier way to avoid plagiarism as here idea presented must be of own.
Here, writer contribute to work by writing it own way and thinking. Thus, sentences are framed
of own.
Use plagiarism checker- the work that is done can be checked with help of plagiarism checker.
There are various tools available for it. this helps in identifying that how much plagiarism has
occurred. Hence, this issue can be solved and plagiarism is avoided.
Therefore, these are some ways to avoid plagiarism. It helps in making work authentic.
How to reference correctly using AU Harvard style
It is necessary to do proper referencing so that work seems to be original. If references are not
done correctly then it leads to ineffective work. So, there are certain guidelines which needs to be
followed in it. they are as below
Author- the author name must be included in text. The surname must be written first and then name.
When there are more than 3 authors then et.al., is written.
Date of publication- the date of article or journal published must be appropriate. Also, it must be written
in brackets and name of author.
Title of piece- it means name of book, title of journal, etc this, it is written in Italics.
Publisher info- for journals the name of publisher must be included in it.
Page number- in referencing the page number of book needs to be included in it. for example- pp, 122
URL- for webpage there is need to include URL in it along with date when it was accessed.
So, these are ways of correctly doing AU Harvard referencing in work. It allows in ensuring
that text written is from authentic articles and journals written.
