Introduction
Academic integrity is define as intellectual honesty in the use of data, in activities, in
formulating arguments associated to the pursuit of understanding and knowledge
(van Rooij, Jansen. and van de Grift, 2018). In addition to this, it is the moral code
through which education is administered. The present report is divided into 2 parts.
The first part will cover significance of academic integrity along with Implication of
academic misconduct. The second part is basically a reflection which shows the
difficulties faced and the skills learned while developing the game.
Section 1
An Introduction including a description of Academic Integrity
Academic integrity is the moral code which governs academic institution or it is the
standard through which academia operates. There are mainly three components of
academic practice that is research, service and teaching (Hartmann, and Prichard,
2018). It is also defined as a process of inculcating character and good academic
skills that is associated to their values, behaviors and practices. Academic integrity
is basically combined with fairness, honesty, trust, responsibility and respect. It also
involves avoiding plagiarism and ensure that the credit of information is giving to the
right person.
A discussion of the importance of academic integrity in higher
education
Academic integrity is vital as dishonest behavior undermines credibility and learning.
It also safeguard reputation, contribute to well being of society and reflect well on the
University (Ju, ., Zeng and Landmark, 2017). Academic integrity is important for
University, employers and for students as well, which are as follows:
For students
It is said that students who maintain academic integrity and perform their work
honestly attain positive results. On one side, the relationship is developed with
friends on the basis of trust and loyalty and raising issue of integrity sometimes lead
to sense of loss. In addition to this, it is determined that it is vital to maintain integrity

in order to enhance brand image of University. It is analyzed that students prefer to
maintain environment highly integrated instead of task oriented, personally involving
and so on.
For employers
It is important for employers to maintain integrity within the organization that
take place by following all the rules and principles in an effective manner. It is
determined that employers have to act with integrity, standards in order to maintain
performance level. It is determined that employability associated to possession of
attributes as well as skills develop students as job ready.
For University
It is stated that there are different factors which contributes to integrity significance
within the university. One of the factor is executing professional practice and
academic standards in assessments that will improve students skills for further
employability (Howard, Nicholson and Chesnut., 2019). The second factor is
pressure on universities as a business entity which has a unique place globally and
help in building international ranking.
Discuss the implications of academic misconduct
Academic misconduct Is defined as breach of academic integrity that provides
students unearned benefits over another. Along with this, it is determined that
students associated to dishonesty with formal academic exercise may lead to
penalties and future failure.
Forms of academic misconduct
Fabrication: It is define as giving falsified data, citations and information in
formal academic writing. Along with this, it includes misinterpreting data as well as
findings in order to gain research outcomes.
Plagiarism: It is defined as the practice of adopting or using other person’s
information and statement without acknowledging to them.
Cheating: It is referred as taking help from others for completing the formal
piece of academic writing without acknowledgement.
Apart from this, there are other types of academic misconduct that is false
declaration, blackmail, duplication, theft of work and many more.

It is stated that students engaged in academic misconduct face major issues and
wrongful actions. Along with this, students also face negative results that impact on
their future (Vasold, Deere and Pivarnik, 2019). Moreover, it is analyzed that
academic misconduct raise serious issue that is penalty to students such as
expulsed with in University, lacking qualification and many more.
Causes
There are various reasons that leads to a rise in academic misconduct, the
first reason is easy availability of copy assignment through online sources. The
second reason is lack of knowledge about regulations associated to plagiarism that
shows students copy the assignment without experiencing and understanding it.
Moreover, lack of time, low grades, staying behind are also other reasons of
academic misconduct.
Consequences
Serious: It is considered on school hearing and includes demission or suspension of
student, ceiling of final reward from University (Brecht and Burnett, 2019).
Minor: It consist of failing on module, declining grades, reduction of marks
which impact on the overall performance of students in a negative manner.
How to avoid and decline
There are various methods through which academic misconduct is declined and
avoid. One of the way is identifying good academic examples and cite them in a
proper manner. In addition to this, outlining proper meaning and resources, research
in right places, including reference lists, quoting work and punctuation, right all notes
in own words are also some of the way to avoid academic misconduct. It is
suggested to students to not overuse quotations and put emphasize on summarizing
to own work (Eleazer and Scopa Kelso, 2018). Moreover, it is analyzed at all such
ways assist in reducing the level of academic students and help students to attain
positive outcomes.

For reflecting the overall experience and learning gained while producing the
game, Gibbs reflective cycle is adopted that involves different strategies from
description to action plan. These are given below:
Description
I was assigning a project to produce a game which is mainly based on
plagiarism and academic misconduct. One of the main objective of developing game
is to assist participating students to gain knowledge about importance of academic
integrity in higher education. Along with this, the game include instruction about how
to play it and other factors as well. The project is assigned within the group and the
objective is to develop a unique idea for providing effective and valid information
about academic misconduct.
Feelings
Prior to event: While starting the project, I was excited to gain knowledge
and unique idea which helps to students to know about plagiarism and academic
misconduct.
During the event: At the time of executing activities associated to game,
there are different challenges and issues arise. One of the issue arise among the
members of group as they are not agree to work with each other and there is no
coordination as well. The issues discussed with the tutor so that group will work
collaboratively.
After the event: The situation is emotional and stressful as every team member
want to perform effectively and assume that they have to work collaboratively for
producing an effective game (Keşan and Kaya, 2018). This help in implementing the
work in a better manner and gain opportunities’ in the future effectively.
Evaluation
What went well
The way of developing and producing game is effective and cover all the
important factors. In addition to this, it assist in improving skills such as team
working, communication, data collection, time management, problem solving and
many more.
What did not work
The aspect which does not work well is disagreement between group
members due to which producing a game is difficult. Another problem associated
while producing the game is technical part within the procedure.

How did the experience end
In the end, all activities associated to game is executed properly and the
game is developed in an effective and timely manner.
Analysis
The major issue which occurs while developing game is disagreement
between team members. It has created a tensed and stressful situation as without
them the work is not completed. For resolving this issue, support of new member as
well as development of teamwork will take place. It is analyzed that to complete and
succeed project, it is important for all the team members to take interest and put their
full potential. Furthermore, by the assistance of effective communication and
problem solving skill, the team is able to produce and complete game before time. It
also helping attaining positive outcomes for the project.
Conclusion
The overall experience while producing and development of game is good
and assist in gaining in-depth information about academic misconduct and academic
integrity. In addition to this, it also help in gaining information about causes of
academic misconduct and the importance of academic integrity within higher
education. Furthermore, it also aid in improving skills such as time management,
problem solving, conflict management, team working, communication and many
more.
Action plan
To check and monitor performance as per the set standards on a continuous
basis.
To focus on developing team working and decision-making skills.
To develop effective relationship with the team members.
Acknowledge when aspects are done correctly and properly.

While producing the game about plagiarism, I learned and experience various
issues due to which I am able to improve different skills that is both hard and soft
skills. The skills learned and gained by me is mentioned below:

IT skills: By the assistance of this project, my IT skills was improved as it
involves the use of various software, presentation and many more. This will help me
in future to complete project without any technical issues.
Team building: With the help of this project, I gain information regarding the
significance of teamwork and how it assists in attaining objectives timely. It is
analyzed by me that working collaboratively is significant in order to attain positive
results.
Communication skills: While this assignment, it is analyzed by me that I was

Lehmann and Gardner, 2018). It is determined by me that presentation skill will
assist in future to express and share ideas to audiences in an effective and
appropriate manner.
Time management: By the assistance of this project, I learned about the
importance of time due to which all the activities associated to producing game is
implemented within given timeframe. With the help of this skill, the overall project is
completed timely and effectively.
Problem solving: This skill is improved by me while resolving the issue
among team members. This help in working collaboratively for producing the game
and complete the project timel (Los Santos and et. al 2019). It is analyzed by me that
problem solving skill will help me in future to resolve issues without any delay and
properly as well.

Conclusion
From the above discussion, it has been concluded that academic integrity is
vital for students, University and employers as well. Along with this, it is determined
that academic integrity is important for students in order to maintain their
performance and attain positive results. Moreover, there are different types of
academic misconduct that is plagiarism, collusion, fabrication, theft of work, cheating
and so on. For avoiding such misconduct, it is analyze that there are various aspects
that is proper citations, use of punctuation’s, research in proper places, maintain
notes in own words and so on. Furthermore, it is concluded that universities take
serious actions against students for declining the level of academic misconduct and
to make them experience and gain knowledge from the University.
